The hotel is close / walking distance to everything, which was very convenient and nice to have. It's a very short walk. Our room had a lovely balcony with a view of the Matterhorn. It was gorgeous and we didn't have any noise issues at night. The breakfast was also quite good.

The beds were not comfortable. The mattresses are very thin and so we didn't sleep well, which was a shame after being on the mountain all day. Also, the restaurant ran out of hot breakfast on weekends, if you didn't get downstairs by 0900, there were no eggs or hot bacon / sausage for your breakfast.

It was quite a big room in the attic on the 5th floor, the lift goes to 4th floor, but it was completely not a problem for us. The room has windows with view on the Matterhorn. Seeing it reddish in the afternoon was a great view as it was foggy up there, but seeing it clear red in the morning is an astonishing experience! It seems to me that the room can easily accommodate 4 people as it also has a sofa. The only problem could be access to the toilet ;-) The breakfast was really very good, as it states in the room description. It was our first visit to Zermatt but the hotel i first on the list for our next visit.

Since it was in the attic, there was a slanted ceiling, but the size of the room makes up for it. And I imagine it could be of some inconvenience for a tall person (over 180cm tall).

It was close to the main street in Zermatt, where you can find lots of stores and restaurants. There is also a supermarket very near to the hotel (within 1 min walk distance). The inside of the hotel was relatively a old-fashioned design. The staffs were friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the panorama view of the Matterhorn every morning. Comfortable room with tidy bathroom.

Only one staff was available in the restaurant during breakfast hour, which he/she could be super busy to prepare tea/coffer, clean up tables, and refill food and utensils. Reserve sufficient time for breakfast if you have a tight schedule in the morning.

Highly recommend Hotel Excelsior for a stay in Zermatt. We were thoughtfully upgraded to a room with balcony overlooking the majestic Matterhorn on arrival and we loved watching the mountain change in the light of day. Our room was very spacious, comfortable, clean and we loved the decor. Breakfast was ample, delicious with good choices. Staff were friendly and helpful. We appreciated being picked up from and dropped off to the station with our suitcases. Thank you to staff for care and help making our stay in Zermatt very memorable.

If I could give the owner of this hotel a 20 out of 10, I absolutely would. Monique has a lot of love and passion for her hotel and her guests and it shows through in every aspect of this wonderful hotel. We stayed in the best room with a view of the matterhorn and she made sure we were happy. Her bar was always packed and it is low season and her restaurant full (again low season). Her food was exceptional and the service outstanding!! You must stay here on your next trip to Zermatt.

We pre-booked 1 night for a standard double room with breakfast in July 2022. It was around 8.30PM when we arrived in Zermatt after travelling on the Glacier Express from Chur. It was easy to arrange with Monika to provide a complimentary pick up to the hotel from Zermatt Bahnhof. Although centrally located, we avoided lugging luggage over cobbled streets with the free ride. When checking in, we were given a free upgrade to a balcony room – the view of the Matterhorn was indeed the cherry on the cake! Moreover, there were two toilets in the room and all the amenities. Although Room 238 is on the second floor, a lift was available. The hotel breakfast was a wonderful spread in a typical Swiss chalet-style ambience. We could explore with ease and enjoy the charming town along the Matter Vispa and the picturesque Swiss mountain scenery. Upon checking out, Monika again arranged for a taxicab to fetch us to the Bahnhof.

There was still no provision of an electric kettle to make hot beverages in the room. Maybe this is a Swiss thing? Otherwise, an almost perfect accommodation. It was a pity we only stayed one night.

The location was superb especially with an upgrade to a room with a view of the Matterhorn, we could not take our eyes off it! Breakfast was lovely in the charming breakfast room with the usual array, lovely breads, croissants, the best natural yoghurt!! , fruits and eggs, meats etc.

Our only issue was a common one this trip..that the heating is too hot and doesn't seem to be adjustable. We just open windows to sleep in a cooler room.

We had a very pleasant and comfortable stay at Hotel Excelsior in December 2023. The location is convenient, 10 minutes walk from the train station. Comfortable spacious room with all the amenities needed, helpful staff and great breakfast made our stay memorable. Not to mention the fascinating view of Matterhorn from the balcony.

The location is very central and close to the Main Street . The view of the mount Matterhorn from our balcony was astounding . The hotel organised a free pick up from the station and that was helpful

The hotel should provide basic facilities like a kettle to make heat water , tea/coffee machine . They did not have an electric iron in the room and neither had one in the reception which I feel they should keep

Booked a room with Matterhorn view and balcony. The view of the Matterhorn was amazing. Staff very welcoming and accommodating.

The hotel is situated right next to Harry’s bar so music starts at 3pm every day and continues for hours as bar closes at midnight.
