Huge thank you to the receptionist who checked us in and helped with EV charger. Also the leisure complex team, who were super friendly and welcoming. Having only one coffee machine at breakfast made for social interaction with other guests, after all we are on holiday and time runs at a more relaxed rate. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay with you and it gave us exactly what we needed. A break in our journey and the start to our holiday in your fabulous pool. Thank you!

Check in was quick and easy with the young lady at reception being professional, friendly and welcoming, The room was clean, warm and comfortable with a great bed and a clean, spacious ensuite. Breakfast was excellent with a wide choice of cereals, toast, fruit, fruit juice, tea and coffee and cooked breakfast. All breakfast staff were also excellent. We didn't use the restaurant but had meals in the Walton's bar. The food was delicious and cooked perfectly, there was a good choice of beers, wines and spirits. Staff in the bar were again excellent. Prices were very reasonable and service was absolutely exceptional. There is also a good leisure facility including gym, sauna, swimming pool etc..

There was nothing that really could have been improved on. All staff, our room, evening meals and facilities were all top notch. If I was to be really picky, I'd say the car park is slightly small, that said, we did get parked easily enough.

Stayed at this hotel on and off over the last 20 years, nice quiet village location with local walks by the river and only 30 minutes from the Lake District. Recent refurbishment has been tastefully completed.

People with dogs eat in the bar area , which is fair enough. You still get table service or you can choose from the cold buffet. Breakfast selection us of good quality & plentiful. The traditional Cumbrian breakfast my husband had was lovely & o can recommend the eggs royale.

It's a travesty that booking only has this hotel and spa at a 7. But I won't tell anybody for the fear that it might be "found." Loved it and we are well traveled.

All meals were very good. Staff were excellent, helpful, polite and friendly.

Pretty clean room on arrival. Some debris at the foot of the bed. Following day no replenishing of milk, biscuits . Bed tidied but very little cleaning done. Carpet debris remained, used towels not taken away or replaced. Second day ran out of toilet rolls and again no clean towels and so it continued until the end of our stay. Staff on reception desk did bring us milk, biscuits and coffee once notified and we’re apologetic. One other issue was that the telephone in the room was not in use, therefore, we were unable to ring to book an evening meal.

Comfortable room

Breakfast was chaotic even though we had booked a time, no tables were available & we had to stand outside the conservatory & eat bacon & sausage with our fingers, we were told we could go & sit in the bar area but was quite a way from the food, we eventually found a table with no help from staff, no cutlery but I did manage to find some eventually, coffee was self service from a machine & toast had to be made yourself, not what we expected for £150 a night in a 4 star hotel .....

Excellent room overlooking the garden, the breakfast was magnificent as were the gym and pool facilities.

All was perfect for us. The only problem was breakfast which was to be our meal before setting on a five hour journey, but, not your fault, everyone descended at the same time, so ra;ther than wait we did not stay for breakfast. Not a Big problem, but a slight disappointment. Thank you for your attention. Anne Wawn

We’ve stayed at the Crown on a number of occasions as it’s our ‘go to’ / stop over when travelling from Northern Ireland to London. simply put its an old fashioned brilliantly run country hotel. It’s belongs to an older order, to days made up of other days. It consistently performs to high standards, the most important of which I believe are the staff , and here the Crown excels. This weekend when we arrived we were met by Kate the receptionist. She greeted us with warm smile and remembered our names which is in this day and age is as rare as it is wonderful. The Walton bar where Lee the barman - always busy always friendly and still manages to makes great cocktails also deserves a mention. On this occasion Paige did a great job with our ‘Old Fashioned’….. and all with humour and no fuss no rush. But what really distinguished the Crown Hotel was Nicky another receptionist. Whilst we were there I lost my car keys (fortunately had a second set with me)… I reported this to reception saying we would be staying with them again in two days. Nicky searched the car park, even the bins to no avail. Not to be put off - and when she had finished her shift she went back to the room we had stayed in and an after another search - she found my keys. She phoned to say they were ready to be collected from reception. This level of attention to detail from Kate, Lee, Paige and Nicky sums up the ethos of the hotel. We’ve stayed in numerous hotels in England and Ireland and The Crown s little gem always excels.
