I've stayed in many hotels with my dog and I'm used to getting "the dog room" you know the room at the back of the hotel, lucky to get carpet and always in need of redecorating, not a problem and I fully understand the reasons as to why they save these rooms for dogs. However!!!! The fox and pheasant was pure luxury, I booked in for 2 nights stay as a single room for me and the dog. The big was huge, 2 dog bowls, towel for the pup and a big dog bed!! The room standard was extremely high, very clean, lovely bathroom with a shower and a huge bath. The view was very picturesque, had a couple of meals in the pub downstairs, can't complain about the food, very tasty, you could tell it wasn't frozen and the turnaround time was very quick. Very relaxed atmosphere throughout, we'll definitely be returning. Extremely good value for money and we'll definitely be back!!!

Having to go home...

This is a beautiful Inn, lovely location with a walk through the woods close by. Staff were all very polite and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The room was clean, tidy, and comfortable - they were happy to organise an earlier check-in on request. The room has the usual tea and coffee facilities, and they were happy to supply water for my room on request. They booked a table for my evening meal - lovely menu choices, and they cater for all dietary requirements. Portion sizes are plentiful, and food arrived piping hot. A good selection of breakfast options too. I was given keys to the front door if I was out later than closing time. Excellent and swift communication using the 'message the property' function. I highly recommend and would happily stay here again - thank you.

A great place to stay. I was travelling from London to Scotland, so a fantastic place to stop off. Food is really good. Room very comfortable with extra large bed. They kindly stayed open until i got there as i got delayed due to road closures. Very welcoming to myself and my dog. Great view of cow fields and a river, which is a great walk with my dog, or out the back into lovely woodland walks. They provided a small dog bed, bowls and even a dog towel. This place has really become my go to place when travelling between London and Scotland.

The rooms are of good size with en suite. Although above the pub, it was quiet in the rooms and could not hear from downstairs. Great tea and coffee facilities and great location for a local wedding. Staff were ever so attentive - my partner fell ill whilst there and the staff couldn't do enough to ensure we were prepared for our long journey home. Breakfast was lovely with plenty of choices and very accommodating. Would highly recommend.

There isn't anything we can comment on that we didn't like.

Excellent location and plenty parking. Welcoming and friendly staff. Bed very comfortable and room lighting very well arranged. Room very clean. Breakfast excellent. The staff obviously care about their business and work hard. In the evening, it was a thriving pub, downstairs- something you don't often see these days.

The weather! Dull and windy- but that's not the Fox and Pheasant's fault. I spent a bit of time finding the extractor fan for the shower- it was above the bathroom door!

Idyllic looking Inn in a glorious quiet location. Our room had a view of fields and the river with a stone bridge crossing. Plenty of parking opposite in the pub car park. The room was well presented with a very comfy bed. The bathroom was adequate, if small. Nice atmospere in the bar, well used by locals. There was a separate games room with a pool/snooker table. Having read previous reviews we had high expectations but our one-night stay didn’t fulfil them.

The bedroom was tiny with just about enough space for the bed and little room to manovre around it. A short corridor with storage led to a small bathroom and an under-powered shower, One bath towel was dirty with food stains, which we assume got through "quality control". The dinner was edible but ordinary. Breakfast was served in a room without any heating and we vacated it quickly. Breakfast seemed to be disjointed although the lady serving was doing her best. This place could be really something with a little more focus on the essentials.

Breakfast was brilliant, and plenty of it. The Fox and Pheasant is in a small village (Armathwaite) just north of Penrith, and has its own railway station, with trains to Carlisle, and Leeds (the train stops at Settle which is a nice journey) You are able to pay on the train, which is good. The rooms are lovely with rooms 2 and 3 looking out on to sheep in the field. The staff are very friendly as are the locals. The meals are cooked fresh . When it is cold there is a lovely open fire on the go.

The menu was not as extensive as on a previous visit, but a new menu I believe is due soon, all the food was lovely and good portions.

The staff are absolutely spot on, couldn’t be more helpful and such nice people. The food… is absolutely amazing pub grub done to a top standard and the portions are huge! I’d say they won’t sell many puddings! Breakfast was the same… 100% fresh local produce and service with a smile. A table of Germans at breakfast asked for some cheese and a platter came out that would put most cheese boards I’ve seen to shame!

Shower was electric and a little tricky to get the temperature right.

The property is lovely in a very quiet village with fantastic walks around. We had a warm welcome and all the staff were amazing especially the lady who met us and the lady who sorted our breakfast in the morning. Our room was perfect, very clean with a comfortable bed. There is plenty of parking. We had a very nice meal in the evening which was good value and delicious. Breakfast in the morning had plenty of choice. Would definitely stay here again.

Very friendly staff. Both the evening meal and breakfast were plentiful and really tasty. The room was nice and clean with blackout curtains. Tea/coffee/biscuits provided. Extremely comfortable bed. Toiletries in the bathroom were also provided. Very quiet location during the night.

As I am an early to bed person, it did take a while to get to sleep as I could hear other guests downstairs in the bar, but only till about 10.30 pm (which I know isn't late for most people). Also the electric shower was a little bit difficult to get the right temperature set. It kept going hot and cold. Both these comments would not sway me from staying again though.
