Room was very clean and tea and fresh coffee were provided. The bed was really comfortable. I ate dinner in the pub which was good, lots of choice and a super vegetarian and vegan menu. Owner was very friendly and helpful and didn't bat an eyelid at my muddy walking boots!

I felt the price was a little high and didn't include breakfast. The TV in my room didn't have a very good signal, only 1 channel was available.

We booked the hotel as our stop off point on the 2-day C2C bike ride from Workington to Tynemouth. So glad we did as the hotel is professionally managed and very comfortable. We had two rooms booked and both were extremely clean and comfy. The beds were amazing! We had an extra bed put in the room for our third person for a small extra fee. Breakfast was delicious and there was a choice of cold food and then hot food from a menu. All cooked to perfection. There is an indoor storage space for cycles, so everything is catered for! If we do the C2C again, we'll be back!

The shower was a bit fiddly, but managed to get it working.

Excellent location on the Pennine Way. Lovely, helpful staff, big spacious, light, warm room and a deep bath which was just what the doctor ordered. Tasty dinners, decent breakfasts. And kind enough to provide us with a towel for our muddy dog.

If I was to be really picky I'd ask for Heinz baked beans in my full veggie breakfast and my hash brown was a little undercooked. Otherwise everything delightful!

We got a very friendly and helpful welcome when we arrived with our bikes at Alston House. Next stop was the bar which was a good place to wind down after a long day's cycling. Our room was large and well appointed with one double bed, a single and two large windows with a nice view. The shower room was nicely decorated with white tiles and was very good when the water was warm. We ate in the restaurant and were very happy with the quality and size of our portions - the parmesan truffle chips were delicious. Breakfast was good and most welcome before a tough ride up Hartside in a strong headwind and pouring rain!

One of us couldn't get warm water from the shower in the morning and the other managed only to get some sporadically. We weren't too bothered for our one night stay but if we'd been staying longer we'd have needed to get that sorted. It had worked perfectly well when we most needed it shortly after we arrived.

The bedroom was comfortable, spacious and characterful. Staff were very friendly welcoming and helpful. Both Dinner and breakfast were lovely The little town of Alston is gorgeous and the surrounding countryside and villages were a delight for motorbike riding cycling and walkers what a beautiful part of the world we have discovered. We will definitely be back to this special hotel

Couldn't control shower temperature very well

Nice place with spacious, comfortable room. Food was excellent and reasonable value . Also, the restaurant fitted me in on a very busy Saturday night when I was alone so worth a mention!

Asked to pay up front for room meals but not an issue. Expecting to pay at checkout

A lovely hotel with a pleasant host who couldn’t do enough to ensure we had a great stay. Breakfast wasn’t massive but freshly cooked and of good quality.

The only complaint with it time there was the bar closed before 10pm and the staff couldn’t get away quick enough. We went over the road to the Cumberland so didn’t go thirsty but it should be made more obvious that the bar closes early.

What a lovely couple! Nothing was too much trouble regarding charging our e-bikes (whose batteries can not be removed), an extension lead was found and they were securely stored out of site. Our room was very cute, up on the top floor with a great shower and a comfy bed. Down stairs we ate in the bar, beside a lovely log fire, which was a welcome site having been on our bikes all day. The food was excellent and the gin menu was even better. Breakfast was very tasty, however I would just like to say that the mixed berry fruits on my hot pancakes would have been nicer if they hadn't still been slightly frozen. This is an excellent place to stay, albeit slightly off the C2C route.

Bed was very comfy, and facilities were great. Breakfast was very welcome, setting me up for the day on the Pennine Way.

My only real issue was how early the restaurant closed, as I couldn't get a meal that night. Ended up getting something from the garage across the road, which was well stocked.
