The room was spotless and very comfortable, with complimentary tea, coffee and home made carrot-cake. The en-suite shower room was modern, clean and well stocked. The breakfast was outstanding, with both continental and cooked options available. Although we didn't use the guest lounge, we could see it was an excellent facility should it be required. Most of all, however, the hospitality was absolutely fantastic. We were welcomed from the very moment we arrived as if we were family, and sent safely on our way with a cheery wave and good wishes. Highly recommended.

There was nothing at all that we didn't like.

What amazing hosts they were so friendly and welcoming, even though we were soaking wet and muddy. Our boots off wet clothing off and straight into their drying room. The best ever lemon drizzle cake in our room 😋. There was a small fridge in the room with fresh milk and an excellent choice of teas and coffees. Breakfast was amazing .Homemade granola or muesli followed by an amazing menu of the traditional fry up to smoked salmon , poached eggs with advacado to pancakes and bacon and syrup. If you are walking the wall, Ian will come and pick you up and take you back at no extra charge. We wish we could have stayed longer. If you book this B&B, you will not be disappointed .

After a long day hiking, it felt like coming home. We were so well looked after, from the welcome to the yummy home made cake in our room. We loved eating round the big table with other guests and breakfast was delicious. The room was luxury, with big bathroom. We were able to wash and dry our clothes. There was literally everything you could want including a lift back to the trail the next day. Fabulous!!!!

That we weren't staying longer!

Simply amazing. The hosts Ian and Kate are so welcoming, the rooms are immaculate, the home made breakfasts were awesome. We were a group of 6 with motorbikes, 6 large bikes easily stored securely in the garage. An ideal B&B being at the centre of the country for any get away, just a 5 minute walk from the town centre of Haltwistle. Just superb..thank you so much for your hospitality.

Nothing. Superb location, Superb food, nothing to complain about at all.

What is not to love about this property? Wonderfully comfortable bedrooms with loads of lovely touches (the little chocolates in the tiny fridge in our room and the homemade financiers on the dresser). We were able to bring some local takeaway back for dinner and sit in the dining area to eat our dinner then Kate and Ian offered us a lovely warming glass of whisky by the fire to finish our night off. Amazing hot showers in our rooms. Breakfast was phenomenal with home made granola and bread, fresh coffee and the most amazing breakfast menu (we chose the waffles with streaky bacon)…an ample helping! We were even sent on our way with some fruit for the trip ahead. Would gladly return in a heartbeat!!! Thank you Ian and Kate for a wonderful experience

We really enjoyed our stay at The Old School House. Ian and Kate were extremely welcoming and excellent hosts. The attention to detail was lovely, the room was very clean and the home made cake was especially appreciated. Breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice and although we didn't make use of the guest lounge it is a beautiful area and had we had a longer stay we would certainly have made use of it. The location is also very good as it was possible to walk to the local facilities to eat in the evening and there was a supermarket minutes walk away. The beautiful countryside and Hadrians Wall are also very close by.

There was nothing that we didn't like.

Ian & Kate are excellent hosts. They have thought of absolutely everything to make their guests feel at home. We were able to eat in the guest dining room & they provided everything we needed including wine glasses. The guest lounge is a lovely place to relax after a long day. The bedroom was superb and we loved the homemade cookies. Overall a fantastic place to stay. Thank you to Ian and Kate!

The breakfast was absolutely amazing. Perfect food in a perfect setting. There was too much choice! I could have had a different breakfast there every morning for a week and still not be done! Everything I did have was absolutely delicious and my hot food was brought out really quickly. The owners were incredibly kind, friendly and clearly great at what they do. A warm welcome and everything provided that I could have dreamt of. Including some not-so-little treats! Safe storage for my bicycle too. My room was spacious, comfortable, beautifully decorated, well kitted-out, and SPOTLESSLY clean. Huge en-suite with the most perfect towels and toiletries. Spent a relaxing evening watching a great TV with Netflix, Disney+, etc. Wi-fi was great. Really thorough information folder answered all my questions and gave me top advice about local food etc. Black-out blinds were a magic touch and made sure I slept well. Plenty of sockets too which meant I could charge up my bike lights, watch and phone all at the same time. Place was lovely and peaceful. Massive shared lounge area and dining area, again beautifully decorated, and a laundry room too.

Really struggling to think of anything. ONLY to be constructive and certainly not a complaint in any way: the loo seat was slightly loose but that's all I can think of. It was an absolutely amazing place that really went above and beyond.

My second stay at the old school house. A lovely building close to the centre of Haltwhistle and only a few miles from the central section of Hadrians wall and Vindolanda and Housteads Roman forts. Kate and Ian are wonderful hosts. They put so much into making sure that your stay is an enjoyable one. Lovely en-suite rooms with cake and chocolates as well as bottled water, mini fridge with milk. The breakfasts are great with home made granola and pastries and fruit to take away with you if you like. Ian even offered to collect us from the Roman Army museum after we had hiked there. Thanks again. Your hard work and enthusiasm is much appreciated.

Ian and Kate are truly the perfect hosts. Friendly, helpful, respectful of our privacy and yet very attentive and available for anything we needed. Everything was absolutely immaculate, the room and bathroom were super-equipped, the beds comfortable, amazing shower, and a window in the bathroom, which I really loved, and it's so unusual to find. Not to talk about the treats... including home made cookies! And the breakfast.... I've never seen such luscious array of delicious food, home made granola, fresh fruit, ...., the best coffee ever! (and I'm very particular about coffee), everything beautifully presented. I just wish we'd planned to stay there a week instead of just one night! Thank you so much, Ian and Kate!
