Lords of the Manor in Upper Slaughter is in one of the most idyllic locations on the planet, and the walk from the manor to Lower Slaughter should be on every bucket list. The manor itself and the rooms are on par with its stated star rating and they well met expectations. Food is delectable (we had dinner and afternoon tea) and plentiful. Service and staff is hit or miss depending on who you interact with, for example the gentleman at dinner was exceptional, while one of the ladies at tea questioned our request for water. Water! (we had half of bottle on the table for four people). Check-in and checkout were both expedient and efficient, both very competent individuals. The only downside is that front desk called both mornings for breakfast despite a request at check in not to do so, a request I watched the welcoming and extremely hospitable gentleman at check-in clearly document. I’m not docking the rating for this as I believe it was well intended, but a customer request is just that. Still, this manor is dear to our hearts and we look forward to yet another return.

The whole experience from beginning to end was extremely enjoyable, the staff were professional but friendly and always with a smile. The hotel itself is a beautiful old building in well kept gardens that we are sure would only improve with the approach of summer, the interior was beautifully designed and very clean. Our room was well equipped, the bed comfortable…lovely bed linens! Molton Brown in the bathroom and a lovely big shower, special mention to Sydney and the reception team, Service staff for breakfast and dinner and the kitchen for an amazing dinner to celebrate a birthday and Housekeeping for all your hard work! A thoroughly enjoyable stay, would highly recommend. Thank you to all.

Gardens & location were incredible. Loved, loved the 3-mile walk down to lower slaughter and back using the public foot path, etc. Loved just being on property & just enjoying, relaxing and soaking up the grounds, sunshine, flowers, lambs/sheep! Food - both breakfasts & dinners in The Dining Room were fantastic. (Chicken, cod and mint risotto w prawns) Bar - drinks and wine offerings very good. The outdoor spaces were plentiful & comfortable. Liked talking to Mike the Gardner.

I guess, the shower/bath was a little difficult - sprayed a lot of water out by accident.

Used to frequent the Lords a long time ago, when upmarket Country houses were not so ubiquitous. Overall I was happy to make this trip down Nostalgia lane. The grandeur makes you feel special, the location is perfect, with a gorgeous lawn area leading down to reed beds & a stream. Whiled away 2 hours drinking bubbly before a lovely meal

Service was a little too formal, a little pretentious. Bedrooms are grand but feel dated. And for reasons unclear we could not get a dinner table until 8.15pm, yet on arrival there was only one other table occupied

Everything, from when we made the booking we got a call straight away from a lovely and very professional gentleman who wanted to thank us for booking and checking in with us on any special requirement, allergies, our dogs name etc, such a personal touch which already made us look forward to our stay . Check in was another experience, lovely girl who made us feel so welcome, she was very professional and still very personal and engaging - fantastic staff, lovely rooms, beautiful, surroundings, 5 star in my opinion and we can’t wait to come back.

Absolutely nothing - perfect on all levels

Travelled with a friend and felt like we were in a quaint English movie. The location was absolutely perfect and the rooms and shared areas brilliantly decorated. We were served tea in the garden and it all felt rather wonderful. The bar snacks were lovely, the grounds well kept and one can take some rather lovely walks around the hotel. Beds were comfortable, with great linens, bathroom was spotless and we had a great night's sleep as the other guests were quiet and the location is very quiet itself.

Nothing to complain about for our stay but expect sleep would be difficult if other guests decided to stay up late and move around a lot since the doors did not provide much sound insulation and some parts of the floor were quite creaky. But these are minor details.

Friendly & professional staff. Cosy Room. Comfortable bed. Lovely location and grounds. Excellent dinner and breakfast.

Apart from the restaurant the other social areas were lacking in ambience. No music, candles/low lighting, fire (it was cold and pouring with rain in July), menus, interest, other customers or staff to attract you to want to use them and so this made it seem like the facilities were lacking/not being offered.

Absolutely brilliant and genuinely dog friendly hotel, which should be rated 5- Stars, but is surpringly 4! My dog and I were made to feel very welcome by every member of staff we came into contact with. Genuinely lovely and personable staff, from the managers to reception to the bar and kitchen staff! Everyone fussed over us and made sure we were comfortable. It was also great to chat with some of the staff and get some recommendations for dog friendly places to visit in the area. The room was excellent and well equipped with all the expected facilities, although there was no fridge. However, this was not an issue as the staff very kindly stored the items I needed to be kept cool. Lovely, comfortable bed for me and a luxurious doggy bed and a bag of treats for B on arrival. Excellent deco throughout, in keeping with the stunning traditional style of the manor. The grounds were absolutely spectacular with a meandering stream running through beautifully tended fields and meadows in front, and a lovely herb garden at the back, where I discovered a wonderful variety of herbs I had never seen or smelled before! I must commend the garden staff for their efforts! Absolutely stunning displays throughout! Very peaceful and calming walks within the grounds and in the village itself, which was equally serene! I had dinner and breakfast, which were both delightful! I was spoiled for choice for both! For dinner, you certainly get what you pay for - a quality meal! I would definitely recommend staying in for dinner. Well worth it! It was also very kind of the staff to set a table for me in the lovely casual dining area where B was allowed to accompany me. Gorgeous room with a view of the stunning grounds in front! My dog and I loved everything about this hotel and will definitely return. Great location within easy distance of Bourton on the Water, Burford, and other stunning towns and villages.

That I only stayed a night!

Lovely location with attentive staff. Dog friendly. Food was excellent and delicious.

Since we were the only guests with dogs we felt a bit isolated when dining alone in the dog friendly area, which was away from the restaurant and breakfast area. The bar area and lawns were dog friendly however 👍 On our second night we chose to leave the dogs in our room so that we could dine in the restaurant.

An exquisite hotel with absolutely fantastic staff. The rooms are exceptional, the food is absolutely first class and every single member of staff strive to deliver top class service. The taster menu was the best we have had the pleasure of sampling. I cannot recommend this beautiful hotel highly enough.
