I have just returned from a three night stay at Croft Hill Guest House and couldn't recommend it enough. It was my first solo trip and from the minute I arrived the service was exemplary and very welcoming. The room I stayed in was beautifully clean, with a brilliant shower in the en suite and a comfortable bed with plenty of pillows. There are also tea and coffee making facilities within the room, as well as a tv and a card with the wifi code. You have the option of a full English for breakfast but there's also a choice of cereal, fruits and yogurts as well as juices. You are offered tea or coffee and its not a mug but a cafetière of coffee that you get (I can't confirm if its a pot for tea as I just had the coffee but I suspect it is). I went for the full English as I was planning on being out for most of the day, and it was very delicious. The people running the guest house are absolutely lovely. The lady who provided breakfast was really knowledgeable about the local area and incredibly helpful. I can't fault her recommendations at all and she was a pleasure to talk to. I also got a text the day before I went just to make sure I was ok for directions to get there, which I found a really nice touch. The guest house is on a hill just outside Whitehaven so it's easy to get to most places in the area but it's also a very tranquil location. There is plenty of space for parking out the front of the building and once booked in you get a key for your room and another one for the front door, so you are free to come and go as you please.

Large, fresh and airy place in a great quiet location. Lucky people at the front of the property get an amazing see view. The staff were great, very knowledgeable about the local area and very helpful. Checked regularly if we needed anything else at Breakfast. The breakfast was amazing and all freshly cooked.

The property was quite stark without any pictures on the wall and seemed a little clinical. The beds were lovely and clean but the shower screen looked like it had not been cleaned in a while. There were also no toiletries available. Just a small amount of hand wash in the bottom of a bottle.

Croft Hill Guest House is AMAZING and I could not recommend it more. The room is clean, light, big and comfortable. The House is well located, with a great parking and garden. But what makes this experience memorable is the people. The owners Andrew and Joanna are welcoming and helpful, checking in with us every morning and giving us great tips on where to go in the Lakes. The staff is warm and lovely, greeting us every morning with a huge smile. We cannot recommend this place enough and hope to be back soon!

Stunning old Georgian manor house with a beautiful spacious windy staircase, very historical feel. Lovely cooked breakfast as well as fresh fruit salad and home made bircher - nice touches! Nice spacious bright bedroom with stunning views over the garden. So quiet and away from any busy roads Janet was a lovely host and very knowledgeable and helpful with local restaurants

My only concern was how long it took for the hot water to come through both tap and shower but understandably in an older house things do take time. Bed was a bit too soft for me as I like a firm mattress

- Wonderfully friendly and helpful staff. - Excellent breakfast - The most comfortable bed of anywhere I've stayed, with premium quality bedding. Feather pillows and cool cotton. - Perfect location for me: peaceful, great views, nice garden. - A house with character - Walking distance to town centre if you don't mind a good walk, but reasonable for a taxi.

For me it was perfect. If you want a bar and restaurant or want to be in the middle of town, this may not be for you.

Large rooms, very clean, staff and owners were excellent Quiet and peaceful, very relaxing

Location for non walkers, left us a little remote, but no issues for our time there If I wanted to be 'picky' then the breakfast sausage was not constructed well and a little to peppery for me

Lovely stay.In a very peaceful location and at the same time easily accessible.Lovely room - comfortable bed. Very good breakfast with plenty of choice. Great staff - particular thanks to Janet. Croft Hill is everything that is good about a more traditional,family run accomodation.

Nothing to dislike.

Large and spotlessly clean room, good parking, and an excellent breakfast. We will return. Only a short drive into Whitehaven, which is well worth a visit. Wonderful walks along the harbour and the coastal paths. Only a short drive into Wasdale, Buttermere, Ennerdale or Eskdale to the best walks in the Lake District. Staff were friendly and helpful. The house is very interesting, with some remarkable features, particularly the mouldings and the oil heater in the hallway.

Joanne and Janet made us feel very welcome, some great advice was given on local attractions and places to eat. Breakfast was very good, and the breakfast room was comfortable and roomy. The house is utterly charming as is the garden.

Bed was a tad small for us, but not uncomfortable.

Wonderful historic property managed by a delightful host Andrew, who was extremely helpful with local advice for food and experiencing the beauty of the Lake District. Andrew was supported by friendly, efficient and extremely helpful staff.
