Carmel River Inn has charm. We stayed in the hotel type rooms which are decorated in classic Carmel style The bed and linens were very nice. The view over the Carmel River was so pretty. Nice refrigerator but no microwave. The light fixtures were nice but the bulbs were too low wattage for us. There are super cute bungalows on the propert too and the landscaping is lovely.

The Wi-Fi was problematic… had inconsistent accessibility and the office staff was not interested in finding a solution. In general the office staff were not terribly friendly.

we stayed at the newly remodeled cottages. totally worth every penny. the size is big and the amenities including towels are new and good. the location is great. located at the entry of Highway 1, minutes away from Starbucks, gas station, CVS, and Safeway. very close to Carmel and Monterey as well. staff is great and helpful. safe area that is adjacent to a neighborhood and bounded by a river.

they don’t do housekeeping but they replace towels and remove trash on daily basis not that I didn’t like it but there is a lot of work going on on the addition of new cottages that are not yet finished. the surrounding area of the land needs better landscaping

the cabins are amazing! The location was perfect for everything we did. The cabin was SO nice. We stayed in a newer cabin and loved it; amenities, furnishings and quietness were perfect. We stayed in the motel section the first night and moved to a cabin for the second night which was a great improvement.

the motel section is a bit dated and tired. Once we saw the cabins, we asked to change to a cabin (for a $ difference - totally worth it). We stayed in the motel section the first night and moved to a cabin for the second.

The staff were really friendly and helpful. It was in a good location and was good value. The room was really nice and I liked the fact it backed onto trees and a river.

I was disappointed about the state of the pool. Whilst it needs renovation (which I wasn’t bothered about), it was badly in need of cleaning and was full of dead insects and leaves. This put my daughter off using it, which we’d been looking forward to after the drive and in the heat.

Overall a nice stay. The reception is ultra friendly, the view from the back yard is beautiful. Only complaint is the late night and early noise from the upstairs.

I wish there is a microwave in the room or office for shared use, though the receptionist was friendly to offer reheating meals using the microwave inside the office. While I was waiting for my meal to be reheated, another guest came in to ask if there is microwave as well. So there can be a general need for the guests especially when there is barely restaurants open during big holidays.

Super comfy bed, slept like a dream. Great recent renovation. Nice coffee making facilities. Big tv with lots of channels. Liked the location overlooking the river and had some cute geese to watch. Only ten minutes from Carmel, 15 to Monterey.

No bathroom door, and the drain/water smelled strange. Also the shower door was a hazard and kept kicking it/hitting fingers with it. Price was the most expensive of our trip (of 6 locations), but suppose that's just Carmel prices.

Great location, affordable rate, helpful staff. And the bonus: honeybees in the bathroom!!! They must have a hive within the wall between rooms 11 and 12, or upstairs room. Thankfully the Orkin man said they won’t kill the bees as they are protected. As a trained beekeeper, I was happy to pick up and escort the bathroom bees outdoors.

Upstairs guests’ footfalls were really really noisy. I would have liked a microwave in the room.

The cottage was unique, and fun. The location was good. Quiet location. Grounds where clean. Friendly staff.

Use toilet that had toilet paper. Was not flush. The water temperature is either super hot or cold. The heater is a little loud.

The outdoor fireplace was nice; i also used outdoor pool twice a day - very refreshing. The kitchen was quite useful if for some reason you decide to have a light dinner inside rather than going to a restaurant (which are plentiful in the area). It is a quiet location with some guests walking with their dogs (walkable location).

it might appear a bit outdated, but that also could be part a charm/nostalgic. Feels in harmony with the area which is all about nature (to me personally, at least).

We stayed here as the starting point to a PCH roadtrip and it was absolutely perfect! Lovely outside seating area as part of the room overlooking the river and lots of amenities nearby to grab dinner and small shops. Was able to get up and away to begin our roadtrip the next morning feeling well rested and refreshed.
