Butterfly Grove Inn

Very pretty and well taken care of. The employees seem to have a lot of pride in the property. The rooms were very spacious.

This is because of Covid but the staff didn’t come in and clean the room during our 3 night stay. We had to empty our own trash and retrieve our own towels which I don’t mind. I understand the situation but, when your paying to stay in a nice place and on vacation you expect that those things will be taken care of.

The location next to the Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary is awesome! It is so nice compared to staying near Cannery Row, Fisherman’s Wharf and downtown Monterey! you can hear the Pacific Ocean! Very roomy! Lots of room to roam in your room. Although the bathroom was a little dated and could use upgrading, the room itself was cozy clean and comfortable. The location and the large, yet cozy room is a definite plus! we will be back!

parking was a little bit tight, but based on the location, that’s to be expected. The bathroom could use a little upgrading, but there was ample hot water, and everything worked.

This is our second time to stay at this place. This time we got a family unit that was like a one bedroom apartment. Carpet was being steam cleaned at the check-in time, and we had to wait for half an hour or so, but it is good to know the carpet was clean. It was comfortable for three people and two dogs.

Beautiful grounds, cheerful exterior colors. Lovely interior, vaulted ceilings with wood beams. We also loved the fireplace, that was a big bonus for the chilly days/nights. Walking distance to Monarch Butterfly sanctuary was definitely our highlight of this stay. Chris at the front desk was very welcoming and helpful. I mentioned that we may need to move rooms to something in the back because my husband prefers to be away from loud people checking in. He was very accommodating and told us he could move our room if needed but it turns out, the whole area/location is very quiet and tranquil. There was absolutely no need to move rooms. We will most definitely be staying here again! Marcy

Shower water pressure.

Crispy clean, very well-maintained old-fashioned hotel in a quiet eucalyptus grove, with charming stairs, spacious and airy rooms, deer walking around, it is an island of calmness of a century back in time. Cross the road and get your dinner, the Sunset beach is 20 minutes walk, ( we are slow), Pacific Grove with it's coffee and restaurants is in walking distance too, overall is five stars, we wish to stay there again if we visit Monterey someday.

Well, it is close to school, so on busy weekdays it might be noisy, but it is just a guess, we visited on Memorial day. A bit pricey place, so book ahead. It looks, and really is, very old, but everything works well, keeping that air is not easy.

The room was very spacious and the bed very comfortable. There was a large fridge, and a microwave that we did not use. The location was perfect in Pacific Grove, close to everything, and very quiet. Staff was very friendly and helpful.

The furniture and especially the bathroom are a bit worn out, a refresh would be needed. I find it a bit cheeky that no breakfast is served any longer due to covid - during our trip in California we've never heard a mention of COVID except here, it feels a bit excessive. Anyway, our stay was good and we would still recommend this place.

The room was so comfortable and large, clean and convenient to everything. Nice place to walk my dog. It was quiet and lovely. I just felt so comfortable and I loved it.

 the room stays a bit warm even though it’s cool outside there is no cooling it down unless you have to leave the windows open which is not a big deal I get it it’s very expensive to put air in and it’s probably mostly not needed. However, I would imagine in the summertime it could be really warm. If there was air conditioning provided I wasn’t aware.

The location was perfect and quiet serene. The price was a bargain. The staff was very friendly and professional. The room was clean and modern. We loved the way the gas fireplace heater was controlled by the wall thermostat. On our first day, we walked to the Butterfly sanctuary, which was literally next to the Inn. Then we walked to the beach and watched the sunset. On our full second day, we rented e-bikes from "Big Sur Adventures" and road our ebikes nearly all day, and even back to the Butterfly Inn. We will be back to the Butterfly Inn, and we highly recommend it.

There was nothing we did not like.

The beds were comfy and the fireplace was a nice touch. It was also close to the butterfly sanctuary, which was unexpected. It has a cool vibe but could use just a few more amenities/updates. For example, in the pool area, horseshoes, bocci ball or corn hole or some outside games and a few upgrades would make this place perfect. Its older but well maintained. We’ll be back.

The bathroom could use an updating. The tile showed it’s wear. My buds rented the family suite and there was no central heat or a fireplace. Next time, they plan on staying in a regular room.

The 100+year building for our family suite was in very good condition and exceptionally clean. The master bedroom with sitting room was quite large and easy for our family of 5 to gather. The beds were comfortable and the pillows were just right!

Nothing in particular. We couldn’t get into our room right away because the cleaner was behind from a plumbing situation so we had to wait until about 4:30. The hostess was super helpful and apologetic though. Parking for us was difficult; there were spots right outside most rooms but we had to hunt a bit.
