Hotel Josefshof am Rathaus

Exceptionally wonderful hotel who treats guests like royalty. We felt like kings and queens during our stay. The staff is incredible and the breakfast was like staying in a restaurant. There was so much variety and fresh fruit and options and everything was buffet from 7-12n. That was amazing. It allows for a more leisurely vacation. The food was exceptional as well.

They were doing construction on our floor. The would leave pieces of furniture, wood, tools, etc. in the hallway and talk loudly. My parents wanted to rest in the afternoons and often were disturbed by either hotel staff or the workmen about one issue or another. I booked a cab for our early flight out of Vienna and got a call at 10:30pm (after being asleep as I had to be up by 4am) asking me details that I had confirmed with the person in morning of the same day. While I appreciate the thoroughness, I don't appreciate the lack of professionalism.

The hotel, location and staff were excellent. The breakfast and breakfast room were also very good, scrambled eggs were the best ! Although the bathroom was too small, see below, the shower was very odd and the water always warm.

The room was VERY small. Only six hangers and the old fashioned ones that click into a clip ! So clothes had to stay in or on the suitcase. Hooks for coats was beside the bed, so brushed into when passing ! The bathroom is the smallest ever, with nowhere for a wash bag but the floor and no hooks for clothes !

breakfast over exceeded our expectation and was the reason why I didn't decreased my rating of the accommodation. Restaurant is very elegant and provided rich variety of foods and drinks for breakfast. We really appreciate freshly made orange juice, variety of salty and sweet options and fruits for breakfast and good coffee machine. What not meet my expectation is, that 4 star hotel supposed to pay attention to details and especially provide excellent cleaning of the room. We booked room suitable for 3 persons including our 5 years old son, with breakfast included. Cleaning was not sufficient, as in front of the desk we recognized sticky stains, most probably from some sweet drinks spilled on the floor, not visible on first sign, but our socks stick into it and this gives me impression that the floor was not wet-cleaned at all, or only partially. We expected to become hotel slippers and bathrobe in 4 star hotel. In this hotel were slippers and bathrobe not provided, so I assume hotel supposed to be not advertised as 4 star hotel. In the shower there was black mold on the hand shower-head, what is totally unacceptable, especially when you travel with children. We stayed in the room 210, so you can check it and fix it. There are small stains on curtains and drapes in the room. In 4 star hotel we will expect also fully equipped minibar, however minibar was totally empty, thus I don't understand why front desk receptionist asked my credit card number to be stored in hotel system to cover potential expenses, as there was nothing to take from fridge. In the room was provided coffee machine, cattle, tee and coffee, however only one coffee spoon for two coffee cups. Walls on the hallway are white but really dated and full of scratches and stains, and also elevator which is from stainless steel was full of stains, not polished which gives us really bad feelings about the hotel quality. Overall rating, hotel fits more 3 star standard.

An exceptional hotel, located on a quiet side street only 10 minutes from many Vienna museums and places of interest. The staff were particularly friendly and helpful with directions and cafe suggestions, the room was large, delightful and quiet and breakfast excellent. All spotlessly clean. If you choose to not have your room cleaned on any day, to enable savings on water and energy, then an option is offered - of a hotel contribution to an environmental fund - or a drink in the bar. A real pleasure to stay here.

A great location, just 5 minutes away from the city hall and the university, close to a variety of public transportation. The breakfast was very good, and also in a nice open space, perfect for some fresh air in the morning. The room was old and very small, but unbeatable for the price we paid. The bed was pretty good, which is a serious problem in many hotels. The staff was very friendly. A good choice if you don't plan to stay a lot in the room other than for sleeping.

The air conditioning had two modes: freezing and off (and I really like it cold, but this was too much). The bathroom was not bad, only the toilet was almost destroyed by bad cleaning and looked dirty even when it was clean.

Hotel Josefshof is nicely situated in Vienna's 8th district, an area that's just a short walk from the central attractions yet also has its own charming neighbourhood feel. Rooms are pleasant and there's a nice courtyard with a little garden for having breakfast outside. The staff are very friendly and helpful too, especially if you need info about the city or transport -- recommended.

Nice, large room, sunny rooftop view, quiet, clean. No breakfast neaded-better enjoy local cofee-hauses and restautants in the area. No parking place at the hotel but close - not cheap- a public underground parking. Perfect location for city touring an business in central Viena.

We were happy with everything but we thought the staff were excellent, very friendly, professional and many spoke English. Anna who greeted us on reception really stood out, she gave us an amazing welcome and even though we were too early to check in she managed to arrange one room for us so that we and our friends could freshen up and store our luggage until the second one became available. She then let us have a coffee in the breakfast room which was very welcome because we had been on a train for 14 hours. She is a real asset to this hotel! We were also served by Yanesh in the bar a couple of times who we thought was really good. Good location and facilities and excellent breakfast too.

We were lucky enough to get a free upgrade of our room, which was very surprising. The staff at the front desk were extremely polite, good conversationalists and always had a happy demeanour, thank you very much to Catalina and Berenike. The breakfast, albeit a bit pricey was delicious with a large selection of foods, and I loved the freshly squeezing OJ machine. The bed was extremely comfortable.

There were a few reviews about the lack of wifi that we noticed before booking, and this is very true. The reception to connect wasn’t great, and we ended up not really being able to use it. The shower had wonderful water pressure and was very warm, however the shower screen didn’t protect the floor much from getting wet and most of the bathroom floor would end up flooded after showering. As it was an old building, there were not really any drains in the bathroom either, so make sure you leave your clothes outside so they don’t get wet. However, not a huge issue.

The one day we had breakfast it was outstanding, offering a wide array of everything one could hope for and more!

It would be good to have an extra luggage rack (we often wonder why there usually is only one in a room when two people are staying there). I'm sure they would have given us one if we asked, which we didn't). We asked about an ironing board and iron, but because of the electricity limitations, they instead provide an ironing room! We didn't use it, but that seems like a reasonable compromise. Washcloths would have been nice (although rarely made available in the hotels we stayed at), and towel in the kitchen (which the staff gladly provided upon request.
