Hotel Universo - WTB Hotels

We had the best room with the balcony looking over the cathedral Santa Maria! It was very spacious and comfortable. The location is amazing as it was only couple of minutes walk from the main train station and right in the centre of a lot of attraction.

There were no basic hotel facilities such as kettle or iron. In order to get to apartment, we had to climb extra stairs with big luggage and with no offer to help. However it is worth it for the room and the view.

The location of the hotel is great… very close to the train station and the tram, on a main piazza of Florence, so there are restaurants and shops close by. The room was clean, quiet and air-conditioned. It had all the basic amenities and the bed was comfortable. The hotel staff were very helpful and upbeat. They allowed me to store luggage for a few days, even though I was staying just one night, before catching an early flight.

I was in a room for a single traveller. I assume the rooms for two are more aesthetically pleasing. My room was very spare… really , just basic. If I were to stay longer, I would accept the upgrade I was offered.

It was a great room overlooking the Piazza Santa Maria Novella and a 5 min walk from the Florence Train Station. Loved the location as it was close to everything and you could open the windows to let fresh air in. Loved that they allowed us early check-in and felt safe with a 24 hr front desk. They had a lift, too, which is important when you're a senior and have heavy luggage. I'd stay here again :-)

Bathroom is tiny, and no gluten-free breakfast I could find anywhere near the hotel. Would have appreciated at least a kettle to make a cup of coffee.

Minutes' walk away from Firenze Santa Maria Novella Train Station and right in front of Basilica of Santa Maria Novella, the hotel is located at a very convenient and accessible location. You can walk from all the main sightseeing locations without having to take public transport. Also spoiled for food choices. The staffs at the front desk are also very friendly and give good recommendations!

Perhaps because it is Spring time and the fact that our room is attached to a "garden", the room / toilet tends to have a few flies and mosquitos. Other than that, all is good!

The room was nice and clean, but very dark. No windows, just doors to a very small courtyard. The staff was nice. Location is amazing, very close to the train station and lots of cafes and restaurants nearby. Shower was very narrow, but hot water was WOW! Bed was extremely comfortable, linen was clean!

At 2 am some girls upstairs were screaming and laughing. No one was complaining until I did it myself. For a while they were silent, but then started again. Don't hesitate to call the reception, they are friendly and helpful. They reacted at once.

Great hotel. Easy to get to from Santa Maria Novella Station, perhaps a 5 min walk. We booked a deluxe room. Definitely worth the little extra we paid. Room was extremely spacious. Large separate bathroom with all toiletries provided. Outside the main entrance you have a wide selections of dining choice. Staff extremely friendly with 24 hr front desk staff. Would highly recommend.

Keep windows close as we had a number of mosquitoes in the room but am finding this everywhere perhaps after all the rains they had.

Great location right near the train station. The staff on reception were very pleasant and helpful. Room was basic but spacious and clean with a view of the Piazza Santa Maria Novella.

Didn’t realise there was no kettle in the room but that’s our fault for not reading up. The only other thing was the noise from the church bell and the people going passed chatting and pulling there suitcases as it’s the way to the station it’s a busy area. This wouldn’t stop us booking there again as it was perfect and cheap for us.

Universo is one of my favourite places to stay. Location is great, the staff is very kind and professional, the hotel is very clean. The staff respected my request for view towards cathedral and were kind to wait for us late at night because of delay of the flight. Thank you!

The bathroom was renovated in a strange way - poorly painted tiles and there was a lot of dust all over the room, most probably because the triple rooms are not frequently booked. But it was very well cleaned by the staff on the very next day.

The hotel is placed in the wonderful Piazza Santa Maria Novella which is less than 5 min away from the train station and 10 min away from most sightseeings (Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, Palazzo Vecchio, Uffizi Gallery, Ponte Veccio etc) . Around the hotel there are many restaurants (do not miss the Giotto Pizzeria Firenze which is really next to entrance of the hotel). We had booked a Superior Double Room with City View which was really nice and at a descent size something that was not the case for the Single room. The matresses were ok - nothing special but certainly not bad. We would suggest you to include breakfast in your booking since this is served in the next door 4* Hotel which worth culinary and aesthetically visiting

The check in process took longer than usual and it seemed like there was some kind of bad communication among the clerks. Also the color of the Single room was depressing (dark blue?green?) and the insufficient lighting and the (small) size of it was creating the feeling that you were punished to stay in it. Moreoever, the single room was placed at a some kind of semifloor where you had to imagine yourself how to reach them since there were no relevant signs to guide you. Lastly, the music that was pleasantly heard at the lobby through the sound system, was not that pleasant if you wanted to get some rest in your room since the doors and walls gave no sound proofness

It was great to come back to Hotel Universo after five years. The renovations are very nice and continue to improve the guest experience. The front desk was there to meet everyone's needs. It is a perfect place to stay if you are looking to be near Florence's main attractions and yet not be in the middle of noise at night. We love this place and will stay there again when we return to Florence. Grazie!
