Alexander Inn

Great location we could see Westfield shopping mall from our room 23. Easy to access on and off the motorway. 6mins to AKL hospital. I walk away is a sushi shop & dairy. Located on a one way street. Great value for money. Kitchenette in room 23 had an oven and small fridge. Complimentary shampoo etc and daily milk. Daily housekeeping. Under building open car park FREE with limited spaces. Elevator from reception up to your rooms between level 1-3 & hotel like corridors to access your room. Swipe card access. Corridors are very hot in summer. The beds were the best most comfortable beds ever. Very clean and tidy. Hair dryer, ironing board, toaster, jug, microwave and cooking utensils available.

No self service laundry only a leave your washing at reception and get it returned 24hrs last for $10 a small bag. Reception were requesting a photo on my drivers licence and credit card to allow for after hours check in after 8pm that my bank recommended against. Be cautious of this request. And check in instead of supping a copy of your card and ID.

We stayed here after flying in from the UK. As our flight arrived at 03.55 we wanted somewhere close to the airport with parking. Alexander Inn is about a 20-minute easy drive from the airport. Because of our very early flight, we booked the previous night as well as the day we arrived in order to have immediate access to the room. Having told the hotel this, we were sent clear instructions about the coded box in which we found a letter telling us where our room was and how to get in the building and a room key. The whole process was seamless and easy. The room was clean, well appointed, and all we needed for a 2 night stay. After a few hours of sleep, reception was then open, so we introduced ourselves to a very pleasent lady who was very friendly and welcoming. The hotel is close to Mount Eden, so we walked up to get the panoramic views of Auckland. A great start to our trip. This is probably a little far out from the centre of the city, but it is highly recommended if you are looking for a quick stop on arrival. There was a small milk in the fridge and tea and coffee in the room, which was very much appreciated.

If staying for more than a few days, you may find the rooms a little small and the only cooking facility is a microwave and kettle, no hob or oven. Not really a problem for us, but worth bearing in mind. Everything else was excellent.

The Alexander Inn was well located for our needs. It was quite and the room was more than adequate, very clean and comfortable. There was adequate parking and there were tasty complimentary treats available at reception which were not expected. The staff were very cheerful and helpful. We would stay there again.

Our room was a little on the smaller size, but this was not a big issue as we were out most of the time. If we were staying longer and wanting to prepare meals, would suggest the larger rooms which had full cooking facilities.

Great location. Included free parking, limited spaces and under the building open parking. Feather down luxury beds of comfort. Air con & an oven in room 23. We found the end rooms opposite side of reception spaces with views across to Westfield shopping mall in the distance. Very clean & tidy. Bathroom amenities, kitchenette with small bar size fridge. Hotel like elevator up to levels 1-3 and corridors leading to your rooms. Main reception area marble like well presented. After hours key box available on request after 8pm. Daily housekeeping. Kay card access to rooms. Located on a one way street easily accessible from New Market & motorway. Heated towel rail. Rooms are adequate to cater to your needs.

Reception were insisting on me emailing a copy of my drivers licence and credit card to allow check in after hours of 8pm that my bank recommended against. I suspect reception still took a photo of my credit card upon check in which I thought was unusual practice! No self laundry facilities available. Only option is laundry bag size (that wasn’t in room as advised) and you hand it in to office with a charge of $10 and they return the next day about 12. Bathrooms are hot in summer.

Our suite was spacious and classy. Lovely blackout drapes and linens. Mostly clean. Excellent water pressure in the shower. Free car parking appreciated and there was always a vacant spot for us (albeit very narrow). Very quiet despite being so central. Despite the list of “didn’t likes” below, I did like the place overall and would return.

Dead insects on bathroom ceiling. Only light blankets on the beds in midwinter. Had a spare blanket for the big bed, but none for the single; my daughter slept under a coat. Insufficient cutlery and plates; the 3 of us took turns with the one bowl for our breakfast cereal. Had late checkin so never really engaged with staff at reception. AI asked me to send an image of my credit card and photo ID for the late checkin which I consider super unsafe. Communication became awkward until I did bank transfer as I refused to send the ID images. Did meet staff (Lilian) briefly and she was friendly then. Bad pillows, so glad I took my own from home.

The property was located in a nice central area close to shopping and restaurants but not right on a busy street. I loved that we were able to leave our vehicle parked at the Alexander Inn and walk to the nearby facilities. The rooms were clean, well equipped, and large enough for our needs. We really enjoyed the window seats. We booked two rooms for our family of 6 and the room configuration suited us perfectly and were located near each other as requested. The beds were lovely and comfortable. Our rooms had a little fridge and basic cooking facilities. We will definitely stay again!

No complaints

It is very spacious, modern, with lots of natural light. The kitchen is well equipped. Location is great. Close to a mall and several restaurants. The parking is great. Beautiful neighborhood. Silent.

The cleaning lady decided to skip our rooms on our last night. Probably because she was in a hurry, they said. So we came back to a room full of dirty dishes. We had to wash everything before making dinner and we had an early flight the next morning. That was a very unpleasant surprise. They did apologize.

The room was very clean, great lighting (both natural and powered), well equipped kitchette and the bed was comfortable. The location was excellent for what we needed - not too far to walk to shopping mall, easy to get on to motorway, and parking is free.

Sometimes you can hear people talking (or snoring) in the next room - this was not an issue, but noticeable

Location was fantastic, we had the one bedroom suite and it was perfect for our family. Easy parking, easy check in. Very comfortable beds, spacious clean and modern room and bathroom.

The only thing we didn’t like was the lack of sound proofing. There were children staying up above us and they were jumping around, it sounded like they were going to come through the floor. The lovely receptionist called their room and the noise did die down after that. Unfortunately, the room next door to us came home from partying at 4am and were being very noisy. This woke my daughter and I up which was very annoying. The walls offered no sound proofing so we were kept awake for quite sometime. There also needs to be an extractor fan installed in the bathroom.

Spotlessly clean and comfortable. Great location. Newmarket shopping centre a short walk away. Train station within easy walking distance and only two stops to downtown Auckland. Getting around the city centre without the need of a car is a great bonus. The location of the Alexander Inn is also very handy for the motorway. As an ex Auckland resident this venue beats staying in the city centre by far.

We had no complaints. Some reviewers complained about the parking facility but we found it not too bad. You might struggle a bit with a very large vehicle but in general the parking is pretty good. You do have to be careful exiting though, as It is a busy road especially in peak hour traffic.
