The hotel is right on the sea front & is convenient for the ferry over to Arran. It is a bit dated & dark inside but obviously retains many of the original features which is rather nice. Our room was OK, clean, beds comfortable, bathroom OK, all the usual complimentary things supplied. Breakfast was good & served to the table, full scottish, there were also cereals provided. Waitress was efficient & friendly. Only stayed the one night before getting the ferry but would stay again.

If I had to be picky I suppose the squeaky floorboard by the bathroom door was a bit of a pain during night-time visits as it was impossible to creep there quietly!! but I suppose the hotel was just showing it's age

Friendly approachable staff who knew who I was on arrival. Given clear instructions about necessary check-in information needed for my stay. Right on the seafront location with parking. Great food and breakfast. Clean and modern bathroom. Tunnocks chocolate biscuits with tea and coffee facilities in room. Bath robes.

The bathroom was a bit on the small side in my room and had no heated towel rail. Modern open wardrobe and bedside tables are not that practical to store clothes but OK. A bit dark inside the hotel. No marmalade on my second morning was disappointing. But the honey was good. A jug of iced water to help yourself to at breakfast along with the fruit juices would be good.

This Hotel excels in many areas. Excellent for room space, breakfast, staff friendliness, cleanliness, the bar and the location. If you like a little character to the building, this one has plenty. Amazing view out of the family room with the large bay window. I liked the high ceilings, something most modern hotel chains don't have. I liked the ambiance and quietness, and I slept well every night.

One reviewer used the word 'tired'. I would say that it is a 3 star hotel, and what you get is still great for a 3 star hotel. More modern Hotel chains might appear a little less dated, but compared to this hotel they can also be chaotic, boring and predictable. Painting in certain areas might make a positive difference.

We arrived half an hour early so the lady on reception showed us through to the restaurant, we had a meal which I must say was very nice and at a reasonable price, very good food in there, the rooms are a bit dated it’s not five star but if you just need to rest up it’s great, nice bed, basic bathroom tea coffee tea cakes all you need, the staff are amazing and work very hard, was very happy visiting this little gem 👍

Nothing to say really it’s basic but it works

Really convenient hotel for ferry to Arran with exceptionally friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast is just lovely and even made porridge as my mum loves it even though it wasn’t on the menu. Room was HUGE with superb views across the bay and it was very clean with excellent facilities.

The hotel is a little dated but to be honest, it kinda made it more charming. The single bed mattresses in room 5 could do with updating as I felt like I was just sleeping on the divan base but overall, me and my family were really impressed with the hotel and its staff and we all agreed we wouldn’t hesitate to return.

Staff went above and beyond and fixed us a super early breakfast as we were getting an early ferry. Kind and considerate of our two young children in terms of options. Room was huge and beds were comfortable, lovely to wake up to a view of the sea through large windows Shower was lovely, tea and coffee and tunnocks greatly appreciated after our long journey

Literally the only issue was the radiators were on full blast and it was too hot and I couldn't see how to turn them down

Superb location as just 4 minutes from the Arran Ferry. Staff were most helpful especially Gemma. Room comfortable, very clean and met expectation. The décor was of a by gone era in public areas which gave it a charm and character but the rooms were fully up to date. Shower instructions would have been useful as we could not fathom how to get higher shower. Food excellent and Gluten Free no problem. The freshly cooked breakfast to order was just what was needed to a high standard. All in all great- and a walk on the prom outside with terrific views was the extra! Just what we needed.

No shower instructions to alter settings and a dodgey spring one side of the bed- left as you faced it- other side perfect!

Friendly hotel, bar and restaurant area clearly well cared for and team running it take pride in it. Room had lots of nice little touches. Comfortable beds. Slightly dated decor but everything well maintained and spotless. We did not eat dinner there as arrived late but heard good reports about the food. Breakfast very good and hotel staff very accommodating about early breakfast time and arranging a take out for one family member. All in all a very accommodating, friendly hotel which provides good value for money for anyone needing to stay in the area.

The location on seafront was excellent. From start to finish the staff could not have been more helpful and the service was first class. The room was smartly and freshly decorated and the linen clean fresh and good quality. The bathroom was sparkling and once again looked new and very well fitted. Once again the towels were new and of excellent quality. All toiletries were excellent quality including thick toilet paper, make up removal pads, cotton buds, etc. All items commensurate with a higher price band than we were charged!

The dark woodwork on main stairs and ground floor rooms has had its time and a stripping and lighter treatment would enhance the feel of the establishment whilst still in keeping with its Scottishness.

A real treat of a find. We stayed as had an early ferry to Arran, but so impressed we'll be back again. We were a little late arriving (took over 7 hours to get there from Derbyshire!) but had a very warm welcome when we got there. Room was wonderful; immaculately clean, comfy bed and hot, powerful shower. Breakfast was included and very nice. Highly recommend - even had a sea view!
