A beautiful hidden gem, 200 year old coaching Inn in a historic picturesque village 5 minutes drive from the A1. Fabulous stay, with very quirky old architecture which adds to the charm of the stay. Spacious rooms with ensuites. The outside area is large, they had a bouncy castle available for the kiddies. Plenty of bar options and the steak was exceptional. The team are youthful and very hard working, they create a relaxed atmosphere throughout the duration of the stay. Free parking. Facilities within the town. Well worth a return visit! Rocco the spaniel pup was a lovely added extra.

Everything was as expected!

I was visiting relatives one of whom is very ill and currently in a hospice. I needed a base to sleep and shower and found everything I needed at this hotel which was clean and nicely presented. The staff I spoke with were all very friendly and helpful. While I didn't use the restaurant facilities i did see some of the food while passing through the bar area and it did look very nice. The hotel has a nice outdoor area and under different circumstances I would have enjoyed it. I would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in the area.

I noticed a few places which required a little maintenance work such as sealant in the shower cubicle. However, everything worked fine and I'm sure the management is aware of the need for some cosmetic improvements.

The staff were great! Very friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble and they went out their way to ensure that there was a warm welcome. The Full English breakfast was hearty and superb and the evening meal delicious. The room was spotless and the bed comfy.

The room did get very hot as the heating was up full throughout the building. Not very economical. The wifi was variable, but then the village is in a dip and notoriously bad for lack of signal If you wanted a cooked breakfast or coffee then kitchen staff don't arrive until 9. You pay extra for a full English but continental is free. I'm usually an early riser and would have welcomed a coffee machine that has freshly ground coffee to cup..and a mug to drink it from.

All the staff were super friendly and welcoming, particularly Dale who had the unfortunate task of helping me try to move the date of my stay when booking.com were making it harder than it needed to be. Room was bigger than expected with a hugely comfy bed and really quiet. We ate in the bar both nights and the food was tasty, as was breakfast the next morning. Ashwell itself is such a lovely little village to walk through with all it's listed buildings and cottages.

The in-room coffee amenities just needed a dust and the kettle emptying between stays. The cups and glasses were clean but had a layer of dust where they hadn't been used. Small detail in an overall great stay. Certainly wouldn't stop us staying again if we're back in the area :)

The staff were really flexible and helpful allowing us to get changed and leave luggage early as we were heading to a wedding and making it easy for us as we were returning late a night with keys s as bad simple instructions. The family room was perfect as actually 2 bedrooms connected by a door plus bathroom which was just what we needed.

They were in the middle of renovations of the main restaurant, which didn’t affect us but would have been good to know in advance

Great value for money. Really friendly staff. Kitchen was ok but your not travelling for a Michelin Starred meal :) - Food was fresh and tasty. Room was very clean and bathroom was well equipped with soaps / shampoos / fresh towels. Would recommend and will visit again when working in the area.

Kitchen was missing most things on the menu put were very polite about it and informed us they got flooded with guests over the weekend and couldn't re-stock on time.

The room was gorgeous and spacious. The pub itself felt cosy and comfortable and had a lovely atmosphere.

We chose to have breakfast having had a good dinner in the pub the night before, but it did not live up to expectations. I would definitely recommend walking a few metres up the road to Rhubarb & Mustard, a gift shop that also does coffees and freshly squeezed orange juice. She suggested we grab some pastries from the bakery up the road and was happy for us to eat them in the shop, she even provided plates.

Great location - Ashwell village is a bit of a hidden gem! The staff were great, friendly and helpful to us and our dog (the hotel is dog friendly). We ate dinner and breakfast at the hotel, both were tasty and plentiful! We would stay again. The hotel is undergoing renovation, but this didn’t impact our stay at all, and is due to complete shortly.

I loved everything about this room. It was actually a suite with another twin room attached. Four poster bed in main bedroom was very comfortable. Very clean. L9ved the horizontal sockets behind the bed! What a great idea! It meant being able to plug my chargers in without having to negotiate bed legs etc.

Everything was great!

The room was very warm and clean. The bed was comfortable and new linen. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

The shower took a long time to get warm and at times the bedroom was too hot. We had to ask for teabags as there weren’t any in the room when we arrived. Breakfast was a little disorganised, but the staff soon provided plates, glasses and butter!
