The staff were all great and went out of their way to make our stay special. The attention to detail was great and made for a really special stay. The room we had was clean, comfortable, quiet and had a lovely view (despite the rain). The bathroom was large, spacious and clean. The food in the pub was really great and the beer was well kept. It was also nice to see that they had a real, local cider on the handpull too. So glad we stayed and we will definitely be returning in the future.

I didn't stay for longer. There's so much to explore.

The staff, the quality of food, the amazing location and the comfort of the room made The Rock Inn a place I’d love to keep going back to! From the second we entered the property, the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. So much so, that we looked forward to seeing them over breakfast. The breakfast itself was exceptional! The best quality breakfast food I’ve had in the UK. Even the orange juice and veggie sausages were of great quality - something which never happens at the b&b’s we visit :-) Dinner at the pub downstairs was also amazing and great value for money. The location - also 5*. Lots of amazing hikes right on the doorstep, which you can reach without even jumping in the car. The room itself was on the small side but the bed was super comfortable and the shower (also quite small) was very powerful. All in all, amazing Inn and I’d definitely love to go back!

Stunning character Pub sat in breath taking scenery. Friendly staff who went out of their way to help. Brilliant breakfast with plenty of choice and local meats. We had an evening meal in their restaurant which was well presented and tasted awesome- well worth booking a table when booking a room as they were busy.

I cant think of anything to fault - there's no mobile phone signal in the village but i found this bliss!!

quirky historic old pub with excellent evening meal and good breakfast selection. friendly attentive but not overbearing staff. gorgeous quiet location with lovely beer garden. comfortable bed, towels and bed linen. tea facilities in room and 2 small bottles of water provided daily.

bathroom door wouldn’t close! no milk provided in room so had to remember to collect ourselves.

On arrival we were told that due to cancellations etc we had been upgraded, and the room did not disappoint! A lovely four poster bed with a cosy seating area in front of a TV, with a nice big bathroom which was clean and tidy. The location was perfect as we were attending a wedding only up the road, so it was ideal. Breakfast was absolutely lovely and the staff were always so helpful and accommodating- I would absolutely stay here again.

There was no sign for parking unfortunately, and the lane is very narrow with no ideal turning around area therefore it was a little awkward to traverse, although the parking was nice and spacious and safely tucked behind the building. Being in Dartmoor signal is difficult to come by, and unfortunately the Wi-Fi seemed to not be working too well which caused a bit of an issue when trying to communicate with the wedding party, otherwise a faultless stay.

We stayed in 'Sheila's Cottage' room and it was just as described and more, it was spacious, homely and comfortable with a gorgeous 4 poster bed and terrific view from the huge windows. The bathroom was well provided for with a good shower. We enjoyed a lovely walk to Haytor Rocks and seeing the Dartmoor ponies before sitting down to our evening meal. We both had steaks that were just superb followed by delicious treacle toffee puddings. The following morning we had an equally fantastic full English breakfast. The service provided by the staff was faultless.

Shame there wasn't any tea/coffee facilities in the room, but with Covid restrictions still in place this was understood and we had complementary drinks in the lounge instead.

Come rain or shine this place will meet your needs. We were there in perfect weather, with the beer garden in use and sun on us at breakfast. However, we could have curled up with a book in the snug in raw conditions. (Books and games on loan are currently not touchable due to Covid fascism. We can fondle them in shops, play with them wherever we wish, but.....). You are at the heart of Dartmoor, near one of its most prominent Tors AND you get excellent dining. And I do mean excellent. This place was the only one out of 18 places we ate on the trip that my wife and I gave 4 mental stars to, 2 nights running, and the only hotel to gain that accolade! (Only one city and one resort restaurant delivered the same quality. Generally food in the SW is below par at present due to lack of staff etc.) The dining was also good value for money. Their Picpoul is a superb wine at a fair price for a restaurant. Breakfast was equally good. The other thing we noted is that it was like being home in the Dales. The staff talk to you like you are real people, not just money on legs.

I would change nothing. The rather out of date decor is part of this place's charm.

The dining / dinner was delicious, and good value. The breakfast excellent. A great selection of wines and beer. The staff were super and very helpful - lovely in fact. It's a lovely place that has kept its history and character. The room was fine, could do with a little updating, but overall not bad. In hindsight I should have booked a larger room with garden view Vs courtyard view (which was not inspiring - maybe a few planters with flowers would make it nicer!)

a bit 'musty' in the landing to the rooms - but probably due to age of the building and carpets that have been down for ages. Courtyard view could be enhanced with some planting in the courtyard itself, make it look a bit nicer.
