The room was excellent, the location was brilliant, however the standout were the staff. Every member of staff we met seemed happy to be there and that came across in their interaction with us as clients. They were helpful and supportive and made our stay there special. Thank you

The food in the restaurant ....... we had one problem with a meal which was handled very well, however the main disappointment was with the evening menu. The menu was limited and the special board did not change during the three days that we were there. A more comprehensive and varied menu would have improved our stay and removed the need to wander into Totnes to find an alternative.

All very good except for breakfast and check out breakfast sand the service of it too much vinegar in the poached eggs. All very good except for the explained complaint.

Too much vinegar in the poached eggs. Not enough attention given to those who stayed overnight.. preference seemed to be for casual walk ins. No price displayed for the breakfasts. A long wait for our cooked breakfast and the waitress never explained if we could help ourselves to cereals, etc or asked if we wanted toast. In short more need to be explained what we we’re entitled to at breakfast and the cost. Also told by the waitress one cost when it had in fact gone up by £3.

We arrived very late due to train strike but the staff were very helpful, waiting for us. Leaving, we needed a taxi to get to the station and there were none available but another very kind member of staff gave us a lift. The hotel was lovely, the room clean and the bed very comfortable. The staff were friendly and did everything they could to make us welcome and look after us. The hotel is in a beautiful location with a restaurant on the riverside where we had booked to eat but due to the rail strike, missed. We will definitely return!

Fabulous stay at the Steam Packet Inn. We were attending a wedding in Ipplepen and they let us check in early at 11:30am to drop our bags off and collect the keys as they would be shut by the time we arrived later that evening. Clean and beautifully decorated rooms, we LOVED the bathroom decor! Friendly and very helpful staff accommodating our early check in and phone numbers for local taxis. They couldn’t do more for us. Breakfast was delicious as well.

Nothing. Fabulous service, excellent location and lovely accommodation.

Our room was "quirky" but very comfortable, if a little creaky about the floors. As a deluxe room it had plenty of space; enough even for a bath in the main room as well as the shower in the bathroom! Food in the restaurant was so good that we ate in for five evenings running. Breakfast had an excellent choice and was always freshly cooked. My wife's wheat allergy was absolutely no problem, with gluten-free choices available.

I think they have it about right.

It was in a great spot a short walk to the town which is historic and quaint. Great view over the river and well appointed pub and the room was wonderful clean well presented and comfortable. Breakfast next morning was wonderful and staff were attentive and very pleasant. It was only a short stay but I really enjoyed it exploring the area with my youngest son.

The accommodation was up a steep flight of stairs, but when you stay in an old building full of character thats what you expect so not really a drawback but what is to be expected. Staff did a great job and as this was a last minute choice was so much better than I had hoped.

We have to say what a wonderful inn. From first arrival yesterday 19/11. A very warm welcome from the staff and have to say excellent drink and chill after our journey over Dartmoor. We where shown to our room room3 which was excellent and a absolutely fabulous on suite. We had a lovely meal. The bed was so comfortable and this was enhanced by lovely bedding. Breakfast was to die for and we thoroughly enjoyed and set us up nicely for our walk around Dartmoor. We would like to thank everyone at the steam packet for a wonderful stay and we will truly be back. Thank you

The pub is located right on the river and the terrace is a lovely spot to have a drink. The staff are very friendly and helpful, really welcoming. The bedroom was top notch- we had a ‘superior double’ and thought it was really well designed. The bed was huge and really comfortable and the bathroom was spacious and spotless.

parking is very limited - there are only about 8 spaces for the whole pub so if you arrive at a busy time you may have to park in the pay and display and then come back later. Breakfast was very poor and not at all in keeping with the standard of the room. No continental breakfast offered, only a cooked breakfast and the ingredients were pretty basic.

The location by the river is beautiful. The room was large and full of character, and surprisingly quiet given the popular pub downstairs. The food was good, breakfast reasonably priced at £12, and people were friendly and helpful.

I had a question about breakfast in the week before my stay, and got no reply to messages via booking.com or to an email, and for 2 days got only a busy signal on the phone. I know everyone is short-staffed at the moment, but it was only the recent positive reviews here that made me confident that the inn was still in business. People, please check and answer messages.

My partner and I stayed here for two nights for my birthday (July 22). The Steam Packet is situated on the water’s edge with great views of the activity on the water, a few minutes walking distance to the town. We had a very nice two-aspect, well designed and comfortable room with plenty of space. The choice of pillows, more firm, less firm, was good as was the availability of milk for coffee and tea in room. There was a good choice of food in the bar. The staff were extremely pleasant and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. We were fortunate to have very good weather for our stay and so we were able to have meals on the terrace. There is a good choice of food. Portions of main meals and breakfast are substantial. The Steam Packet is popular with local people as well as people from further afield. There is a small ‘first come, first served’ car park with regular turn over, but there is a public car park nearby in which you can leave the car overnight.

Nothing - a delightful find.
