The Hotel staff where just great and very helpful during my stay. This is my 1st time stay here. I will make this my hotel when i stay in Brighton agin.

The rack in the bathroom for the towels cannot be turned off. During my stay they was a bit of a heatwave in the UK. So the Bathroom was very hot. I stayed in room 126 nice size room. But the fittings could do with a bit of a update.

I think we got an upgrade (maybe because of the low season and we stayed for several nights), and instead of a Standard Twin Room we had a really big room with sea view and two queensize beds. This was a positive surprise. The location is really great, close to everything and many restaurants nearby. The staff was very polite and helpful. Good value for money.

The room was very warm and we didn't succeed to reduce the heating, but we didn't ask. Better too warm than too cold. The water pressure in the bathroom was a bit low, maybe the bathroom could need some upgrading. We had to ask for extra toiletries at the reception as the empty ones have not been replaced, but it was not a problem to get them from the reception.

The staff were friendly and efficient. The staff at breakfast were friendly and helpful. The reception staff dealt with queries promptly and cheerfully. I thought the housekeeping staff did a really good job and their standard of cleanliness was very high. Breakfast was good, but as usual with buffet breakfasts, it was just lukewarm. The bed was very comfortable.

The hotel could do with a refurbishment. Areas within the hotel are shabby. Paint was peeling on all the windows and draughts could be felt. Furniture in my bedroom was scratched and handles were missing on drawers. There was no net curtain on my bedroom window and there were occupied buildings opposite. The building is not disabled friendly. There is no way a wheelchair user could use the lift. I know the lift is old, but it really is a pain.

I love the sunny spacious public rooms and the large bar area. I also like the historic exhibits illustrating the unique history of the hotel and the traditional, warm decor with plenty of wood furniture, including in the bedroom. The heating and the very hot water were much appreciated during a rather a stormy stay. I also loved my side sea view, as I haven't seen the sea in England for many years! The position of the hotel is obviously perfect, right on the sea front, surrounded by Brighton's many attractions and close to bus stops for journeys further afield. The booking staff were most communicative and helpful prior to my arrival.

A fantastic location! We were due to be flying to Rome for the weekend from Stansted but due to passport issues were unable to fly, so made a last minute decision to go down to Brighton. On arrival, the staff were wonderful, very sympathetic to what had happened and gave us an upgrade! The hotel itself, albeit a little dated, was spacious, clean and the bar was lovely. To step out of the door and be on the seafront was just wonderful. We ended up staying for 4 nights (originally only planned 1) it was so good. Highly recommend

Nothing, we found everything about it fully to our satisfaction, and more. The staff were all great, really helpful and friendly and the room was spacious and clean - nothing I can think of in terms of areas for improvement.

We came for the anime weekend which was brilliant! I loved Winston Churchill’s chair by the lift and the hotel had some lovely old features. The staff are so friendly! Nothing was too much trouble. The guy on reception moved us to a quieter room without any fuss (we was on the 1st floor to start off with and the noise from outside was unbearable) he put us in room 412 which is on the 4th floor and has a sea view, and it was much quieter! The breakfast was okay, although I think the vegetarian sausages should be put with the rest of the buffet rather than having to find someone to order it from the kitchen. The hotel is in a prime location, everything is within walking distance. We really enjoyed our stay here.

I do think that blue badge holders should be able to pre-book the hotels parking spaces. My daughter is disabled and I didn’t want to risk turning up and no parking available so I pre booked a parking space about 5minutes away which cost £80 for 4 days. The constant slamming of people’s doors was irritating. I regret paying for dinner for the 4 nights at the hotel as it was the same limited menu each night. We are vegetarian so didn’t want to eat the same dish 4 nights running. My daughter didn’t end up eating at the hotel so that was quite a waste of money.

We had a little hicup initially which was rectified immediately. The staff were excellent, very helpful, and cannot fault them. Location of the hotel on the sea front is perfect. The building is old and characterfull. Creaky floors and victorian styling. Don't expect modern clean cut square rooms but that isn't a negative. You will have a wonderful stay.

A fridge in the room would be helpful and the supplied iron was lightweight travel iron that needs updating. Simple things let the room down such as cheap toilet paper If I owned the hotel I would spend several nights in each room to understand the individual little anoyances and bugbears such as central lighting, more sockets, USB sockets. and more that would lift the hotel up from very nice to awesome.

The room was a lovely size, the bed comfortable, and everything we needed was in the room. It was clean and tidy. Breakfast was very nice, with plenty of selection. The location was perfect for our needs being on the seafront and our room overlooked the seafront.

It is dated, but that was part of the charm of the hotel. Everything was lovely though, as the hotel reception and bar area was huge and extremely comfortable, just a shame they closed the bar before the patrons had left for their rooms, would have thought it would have stayed open until they left. The lift was small, old, and slow but full of charm!

The staff and food were lovely and the room was a nice size. The everyday cleaning was exceptional & the location was perfect.

The hotel is so big, it could do with more staff to do a deep clean (lots of dust between the walls and furnishings) and take care of some of the blown plaster. The hotel’s main problem is that it is in Brighton where there seems to be a waged war on the motorist due to its over development. The parking fee was a huge addition to the cost of our stay. NOT the hotel’s fault but worth knowing if you’re going to stay there as their car park is not big enough for all their guests.

We were only staying one night, but we had a very warm welcome. The mattress was so comfy. The room was clean. As this is the oldest hotel on the front, do not expect a "modern" hotel from the deco but do expect a lot of character. I would suggest reading up on the history of the hotel before staying so you can enjoy the character and know what to expect. The lift is small and querky, just enough room for 2 adults, 2 teens, and overnight bags. The restaurant overlooks the sea front with big windows that bring in the sunlight. The breakfast was good, there is a cereal section, fruit section, juice bar, pastries, and cooked breakfast where you helped yourself. Tea and coffee are served at your table. All in all, it was a very good experience for our stay and we will visit again.

We were on the 2nd floor and could hear the street noise most of the night. But that can't be helped as it was a Friday night.
