New Steine Hotel - B&B

The neighbourhood worked well for us (2 old university friends, exploring the South Coast), as it is slightly out of the main bustle of the city centre. The hotel is only 1 mile from the railway station with plenty of buses connecting the two. The hotel is a stone's throw from the sea front, which you can actually see from the dining room. The rooms (bedroom, dining room, etc.) are kept clean and the staff are very friendly and helpful. There was an interesting and varied choice of breakfast ingredients (cereals, toast, cooked, French, etc.). We spent 4 nights at New Steine, so we had the chance to sample quite a variety of breakfasts - all very tasty!

We had a bit of a problem with our shower, but the staff were very helpful in trying to get things sorted.

The room was small but had all I needed in it, I couldn’t have done more than a few days in such a small space but that’s a personal thing. Hotel was clean, a great central location, great price compared to others in the area, and the chap on the front desk was really friendly and helpful.

The parking was ok for me in that it is only free between 8pm and 9am, so I was back late and out early, fits well with work events. You have to park in the allocated zone streets, so your car may not be outside the hotel. It’s tight parking so tests your skills. Only negative for my room was the toilet was separate on a floor down, for me only with a key, but in the morning you have to either hold it or get dressed to go. Ok for a night or two but no longer really.

The breakfast is worth staying there for on it's own, it was exceptional. The food was all good quality, well cooked and the selection gave you everything you might want without being ridiculous and wasteful. The staff at the hotel were all wonderful and every morning the lovely lady on duty remembered every person that came down, what they drank and what type of breakfast they liked, it's little touches like this that make the stay memorable. The location of the hotel is only a few minutes walk from the pier and the shops and restaurants and 20 minutes from the train station so it's in a quieter area while still being well connected. There's co-op Sainsbury's and Morrisons all a few minutes away too.

The interior of the rooms are starting to show their age and signs of wear and tear, most noticeably my mattress had a dip in the middle and is probably due to be replaced. The age and design of the building meant I could hear everything that happened outside the front of the building and in the hallway but thankfully the quieter location meant this wasn't too much of a problem for me, however light sleepers should probably take earplugs. The shared toilet was no issue whatsoever however I would have really appreciated a way to dry my hands after washing them. None of this would stop me staying again or recommending it to others.

A well located, characterful independent place with lovely staff, good breakfast too! The single room was just what I needed, small but smartly laid out. It said there was a shared bathroom but I had my own basin and shower in the room which was a nice surprise, and the loo was only shared with 1 other person.

It needed a little more tlc in places, e.g. descaling shower head and a bit of filler in the wall. Wardrobe was missing a sliding door but it did the job! Shared toilet was very small so may not be practical for some people.

This hotel is in a great place as very short walk to the pier and beach as well as bus stops to different places! Lots of choice for meals as surrounded by lots of cafés, pubs and restaurants!! It's pretty quiet in this area at night too as away from the main nightlife! The station isn't too far to walk either! The staff are very friendly and helpful andcthey do cooked breakfasts, there is a menu which includes French breakfast if you fancy something different and meals in the evening!!

The only thing we didn't like was we were in between toilets for a couple of rooms, ours was ensuite, so you get people walking past to go to use the toilets, but it wasn't too bad as they weren't in and out and tried to be quiet at night!!

The hotel was well placed and easily accessible from most of the sea front and city centre. The welcome was really warm and friendly and the staff throughout our stay, made us feel very comfortable. We loved the room and although the room was small, the bed was comfy and we had plenty of space for what we needed.

There were small things like the door handle on the bathroom was loose and the sky light could have done with a clean but the hotel was peaceful and we felt safe a comfortable which outweighed any of the negatives

Hotel was clean, great breakfasts and all the staff very welcoming. Special mention to Oscar who goes above and beyond to ensure you have a great stay. Also, to John the night manager who was a gentleman. Location was great, close to seafront and pier and a short walk to the Lanes where you find  great restaurants and good pubs. Definitely we will be returning in the future. Thank you all.

Could not fault our stay at New Steine.

Everything about this place was lovely. Big room, clean and tidy, friendly staff (except one!) and excellent location.

The only let down was the night staff (one elderly man). Very miserable, no smile, no greeting, no friendliness or warmth and appeared to be pretty put out by myself and friend ordering a drink! Dumped the drink on the table and asked us to take it away from the bar. Such a shame as this man let the hotel down as everything and everyone else was fab.

The staff and location are fantastic. The place is clean and tidy and the staff very informative and could not be more helpful. You are a 5 mins walk from the main bars etc and 30 seconds from the seafront. I'd highly recommend.

Only drawback was the parking but that's Brighton. They don't like cars much. The hotel does do a very cheap scheme but finding a space was difficult. It's a shortish (15 mins) walk downhill from the station or a short taxi ride. Buses are plentiful from the station that pass the hotel on the way to the Marina.

I loved my stay here. I booked a single room for two nights and it was just perfect. The staff were incredibly friendly, helpful and responsive to messages. Bed was super comfy, location was fab and the facilities were great.

A little noisy times outside of the hotel, so pack earplugs just in case. A couple of things weren't working in room, (small light and toggle for the blinds). Also couldn't work out how to switch the radiator off, so the room turned into a bit of a sauna! So you may want to ask the hotel how to adjust :)
