Location of hotel was perfect, with everything within walking distance. Room was large, plenty of space and overlooked the glorious 'Slopes', and very close to St Anne's Well, with Buxton Spring Water on tap!! Lots to see and do in the town, and visits to Dove Dale and Poole's Cavern were perfect. Breakfast at the hotel was hot and delicious, and plentiful. Staff were very friendly. The Opera House was across the road, and local pubs served great beverages.

Furniture in bedroom possibly a bit dated. Not many shops open on a Monday, and some food places closed at 6pm on Mondays.....But overall nothing to dislike really.

We have stayed at the OH before and always been happy with our visits. This time we had the appartment upstairs and it worked well for our family group, the receptionist responded in a most positive way when I requested fans for the appartment as it was exceptionally hot and the appartment is in the roof space so it was really hot. While we were out at the Opera House the Receptionist purchased, assembled them and installed them in the appartment ( as the supply the hotel had were all in use). We were most grateful for her efforts on our behalf. The hotel was ideally located for us as we were in Buxton on this occassion for the G&S Festival at the Opera House, being disabled with some mobility issues I found the parking right outside the hotel really useful.

Breakfast was included which was great, however I felt the staff needed more training, as many tables were left uncleared for quite extended periods of time, with staff passing by them without taking anything with them to the kitchens. Perhaps some one in charge to "manage" the team might be a good idea as the staff we saw seemed rather unfocused on what was needed by way of clearing and re setting tables, meaning the choice of places to sit for diners arriving for breakfast after the initial diners had left was fairly limited.

This historic hotel is centrally located with easy access to the Pavilion Gardens, the central shopping area and the many and varied bars and restaurants. The hotel provides parking permits (2.50 per 24 hours) for convenient parking spaces. Reputedly, this is the oldest hotel in England and so we found our room was splendidly furnished with inlaid antique furniture. We will book again. We visited during the Buxton International Festival, the hotel being an excellent base.

Breakfast service on Sunday morning was late, with a staff member who had few words and no welcoming attitude.

I have stayed at The Old Hall several times over many years and always enjoyed it. No frills, but you can enjoy the basic expectation of the average hotel, ie. Food, drink and a bed. It was a brilliant buffet breakfast too!!

I had a beef sandwhich in the afternoon, unfortunately the meat was mostly gristle and fat. I didn't complain initially, as the arrival of the sandwich coincided with the arrival of relatives. I did have to apologise to the table as I was obviously struggling with my snack. It didn't really impact on my overall stay. I did mention the problem to a staff member later on!!

Location was perfect - across the road from the Pavilion Gardens and Buxton Opera House. The staff were all incredibly helpful and friendly, which is always a good sign. The room was clean and the beds very comfortable. The bathroom was huge and bright with a rain shower (?} - it took us 10 minutes to work out how to use it, but once we put our specs on we could read the words on the taps all was ok. We went down to breakfast a bit earlier than booked, but they sat us down, took our drink order and told us to help ourselves to the breakfast buffet. Breakfast was fabulous. Cereal and fruit, a selection of juices, a toaster for fresh toast, and all of the ingredients for a very good, filling English breakfast. The sausages were excellent, as was the scrambled egg. The bar and lounge area looked very inviting, but we were only there for 1 night. When we return to Buxton I hope that we can stay longer.

The lead on the kettle in the room didn't reach the socket - we had to turn the bin upside down to put the kettle on for a cup of tea. No clock.

Location, comfort, cleanliness. Friendly staff

Breakfast was not well organised. Day 1 - self service, but not well stocked. Had to wait for replenishments. Day 2 - cooked to order, but the waiting staff could not get around quickly enough to take orders. No options were given other than full English so our table wasted food. We were told different chefs have different ideas, but as a hotel you need consistency. Had we been in a rush to get away on the second day we would have had to walk out of the dining room without cooked breakfast. Once the order was taken the food arrived promptly. It was order taking and seating that was the problem. In Buxton and no Derbyshire oatcakes on offer

Lovely old hotel with history (Mary Queen of Scots stayed there). Location of hotel central to Buxton pavillion and Park, Opera House and many fantastic restaurants and eateries. Parked with ease right outside the hotel and they can supply you with a 24 hour parking ticket for your stay. Liked the room decor, bathroom nice and clean.

Breakfast was disappointing. I think only 2 serving staff made it difficult, 1 staff member seemed stressed. No direction as to whether you helped yourself or were to be served. Half hearted continental breakfast supplies. Coffee dreadful and overheard another table complaining the tea was cold. We ended up going for breakfast somewhere else next door. Because of this feit the room price was not value for money. A real shame as other than this, enjoyed our stay

Loved the apartment for a group of 4 friends, location was ideal

The new apartment on the top floor is beautiful but be aware that there are large windows and we stayed during a hot week and it was like a greenhouse. There is no air conditioning and blinds were left open so the apartment was incredibly hot. There was a fan for each room, we opened windows, closed blinds and staff did provide ice buckets for us to place in front of fans. The apartment is beautiful I just wouldn't advise booking it in peak summer/when hot weather is expected unless they install AC

I liked the age and history of the hotel, apparent inside and out. Yet, despite the grand age of the building, it is a modern and clean hotel with all the desired features. Likewise, these modern features fit and compliment the building - unlike some places where they have over-modernised and spoiled the grandeur. I suppose you could compare it to staying in a National Trust stately home with a flushing toilet.

My only small critique would be the breakfast, which was rather average - though, not entirely bad as it was included in the price of the room.
