Bowood Hotel, Spa, and Golf Resort

A nice hotel near a golf facility. Decent bar, comfortable rooms, and spectacular views. We did not know anything about marquess of Lansdowne, and visiting this place provided an educational opportunity to learn more about the British class system evolving in 21st century and see in practice how generational wealth is used to continue extracting resources from the society, supporting capital and power of a single family.

The fields are fenced, so in some areas you can only walk on asphalt roads even while being in a middle of nature. Parts of the estate are closed to the public. Reading more about the history of the place and modern owners uncovered some unpleasant details - for example, despite incredible wealth, they got a £250K+ grant from the government to "conserve" their collection of art that they charge regular people to see.

The breakfast was slow getting to us but how I explained I wanted my eggs done it was spot on, food comes one at a time but it was very enjoyable to eat. At every opportunity that I needed something it was delivered to us. Croissants was nice and hot and definitely fresh. Lovely receptionist Litch gave great advice to a stress 17 year old doing exams going above and beyond her duities really appreciated the support at a difficult and tearful time.

Mix fruit salad at breakfast seems like it was in the juices too long and was soft. Butter was far too hard and had to mash it to soften it up. Overall the service is slow and that has not changed from 2019 when I first went. But staff are apologetic.

I have never stayed in a hotel where every single member of staff was so routinely and consistently courteous and helpful. From the all the Reception team to the bar staff at the Brasserie, Jacqui and her breakfast waiting team and all of the dinner team, the chefs, the golf pros, spa team, housekeeping and even the groundsmen who happened to walk past - every single one smiled, said hello and asked how I was. They found us a pack of cards, hunted for sun cream, and generally went out of their way to make us feel looked after. We loved the fact that, despite being complete beginners, my son and I were treated like proper golfers. Steve in the pro shop lent us a set of clubs, Theo gave us gloves and balls, and we played the Academy course like it was the Masters! I chose Bowood because of that course and the driving range, which meant we could enjoy getting to know golf without holding up proper players on an 18 hole course. Maybe one day we'll be good enough to come back and do that. We also made use of the pool, gym, steam room and spa treatments. They were well kitted out, well maintained and the massages were sublime. The rooms were wonderful, the food utterly delicious, the service excellent and our 48 hour stay felt like a week. I loved the environment; Spa facilities were second to none. I cannot review the treatment services as they were booked out for the weekend. I would say you should book in advance for any treatments. However, the Steam Sauna was to die for; I mean, the kindness of the attendant at the pool made my stay one to remember. I can safely say his care and attention to those using the facilities was exceptional and beyond anything I've received at any hotel. The breakfast was also accommodating and certainly made up for the lack of attention to my evening meal. Overall, 9.5/10, only let down by the evening meal.

The dinner was extremely overpriced and not completely what I ordered. The staff were polite and did fix the mistake. However, I had already finished my meal and was a little disjointed by the time the rest of my meal arrived.

The room was large. It had already been set up with the children's bed prior to our arrival. The staff were very friendly and professional (better than I have met in other places for sure). The hotel was clean. Everything worked. Breakfast was different. It is not a buffet style breakfast. It's made to order like in a restaurant. Ryan took good care of us at breakfast and took my hyper 7yr old son to see how the toaster worked. They were happy to make alterations where possible to the menu for us. Best part for me was the free entry to Bowood house. If you are a history buff, you will love it

Service in the hotel restaurant was poor. I was overcharged for my meal which I queried with the restaurant manager. He gave me a bogus explanation telling me that the price was correct and put the bill on my tab. When it came to me paying for this meal when checking out, my girlfriend questioned the price with the receptionist once more. The receptionist looked into it and I was overcharged by £23!! Luckily I received my refund.

Lovely location with plenty of space for walks and only a 20 min walk to Bowood House which is very much worth a visit.Staying at the hotel allows free entry .The is a buggy available to ferry visitors to and from the attraction if required. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. We loved having the pool, spa, sauna and steam room on site. The restaurant food was nice and there is room service available. The staff were very friendly and accommodating.

It would have been nice to have electrical sockets near the bed for phone charging etc. A wider variety of vegan/ vegetarian options on the menu would be appreciated.

The ladies on Reception were very nice and accommodating. The bedroom was particularly lovely. The bed was very comfortable, nice crisp linen sheets and the bathroom spacious and tastefully designed.

I was very disappointed by the spa -ambivalent spa reception, reluctant supply towels or give a locker key. No discernible aroma from the 'aromatherapy shower', small, tired pokey thermal suites and uninspiring cold pool. Perhaps unfair of me as I am a member of nearby Whatley Spa and I can't help but compare the two and Bowood Spa did not feel like a treat. Good range of options at breakfast - but lacking in flavour.

Everything! Spa facilities Great views from beside the pool. Large room with great facilities Bathroom enormous! Food fabulous and great choices. Lovely grounds Staff friendly and very helpful. Easy parking. Lots of little touches such as umbrellas to borrow etc We will be back!

There was very little to dislike. My only comment would be to keep developing the spa. Since we last stayed a few years ago, they have upgraded lots and it is really good. The area around the pool could do with expanding as all beds and chairs were taken up quickly and often by families. Expanding the surround would allow for more seating and really move the spa reputation up further. However, please keep the viewing windows across the estate as it was fantastic to watch the deer move about from a lounger, my favourite bit!

The Bowood hotel was a delight to enter from reception ,to restaurant ,to bedroom and bathroom the decor is up to date, clean, comfortable and fresh. The tea & coffees in the room are well stocked. The staff are all very friendly, polite people. The food was excellent and service prompt. The spa was relaxing, clean and the swimming pool was a decent size to do lengths in. Jacuzzi, sauna , steam room all well kept. The bonus to our stay was a free entry into the Bowood Estate/ Manor House and beautiful grounds. Can’t complain.
