Sharon and the staff were incredibly helpful at all times Fantastic location for walking the Dartmoor way. Awesome value for money. (Unfortunately we didn't get to try the highly rated restaurant service, due to poor planning on my part)

The hotel was just a little run down, and had clearly seen better days in the past. The gent's downstairs could have done with a decent hose down to clear the funky old loo smell.

Friendly staff during our stay and a lovely old Inn. Room was a good size with all the things you need for a short stay. Breakfast was lovely and fresh to order from an adults view.

For me the bed was uncomfortable however that is a personal preference as I prefer a harder mattress. Breakfast was a little lacking in variety for children. The 4 cereals on offer were more of an adult choice than a childs.

Great location for exploring the south coast of Devon. History here of the GIs based here from America training for the D Day landings & the inspiration for the film Saving Private Ryan. Breakfast & dinner excellent. Staff very friendly & helpful. Plenty of free parking.

On a busy main road so traffic noise can be a problem. Locals drinking in the pub can be loud at times, but the noise didn't seem to affect us once we were in our room.

The breakfast and evening meal was excellent. If I had known the room size I would have upgraded to a larger one with a bathroom instead of a shower room. All the staff were very helpfull throughout our stay.

The size of the shower room. My wife suffers with serious back problems and found it very cramped. I would have upgraded had I known.

Staff were amazing. Very helpful in every way. Food was lovely and service great.

Rooms a bit dated, and needed some attention. We were worried, as the shower floor was moving, and felt like we were going to fall through. Beds clean though. I asked for a sheet, as very hot night. It was brought straight away.

The staff were helpful and polite. The menu was very good and the breakfast was excellent. The bed was comfortable. The entertainment on the Saturday night was a bonus and excellent too.

Beware of the sharp ramp when entering the car park. The staff promised us it would be painted to aid visibility for both cars and pedestrians. The en suite was a bit small in our bedroom (404), but adequate.

The Full English, calamari and peppercorn steak were all superb; cooked beautifully and served piping hot. Sharon and the rest of the staff at the bar were all very courteous, helpful and friendly as well. There is also a very nice beer garden outside with a shaded section, while the interior feels cosy with several sofas. The inn is perfect for anyone taking the coach from London as it is a 2 minute walk to the bus stop, and is within easy distance of the Two Moors Way. The staff were also very helpful as I had an early return coach and gave me a packed lunch. I highly recommend this establishment and would stay again.

Only nitpicks were the very low pressure in the shower and lack of a fan or AC (such systems are very rare in the UK outside of banks or supermarkets though), but everything else was excellent.

Lovely Country Pub with a warm and friendly atmosphere. Great village location with a few Pubs and Shops. Great location for walking and easy access off the A38. The food was excellent. The Staff were nothing short of outstanding. We will definitely stay again.

There was nothing we didn't like. The room was quite small but comfortable.

The lady who booked us in and out was really so helpful, informing us of all we needed to know about the facilities. Also, the two cleaners were very thorough and were helpful when we asked about trains from Ivybridge. It was a lovely touch having all the coffee, tea and kettle in the room..and bottles of water upon arrival. The breakfast was exceptional...such generous portions and served with a smile, even tho one of us had fussy cooking requirements 😆. I would definitely recommend The Sportsman and would stay there again if in the area.

The road was very noisy early in the morning, waking all three of us up...but to be fair, we did have the windows open as it was very warm weather. Unfortunately, the bathroom was outside of the room, which we weren't aware of when booking...although it was for our private use..(the noisy fan needs fixing)😉

Lovely welcome. Friendly staff who went above and beyond to make us comfortable. We were staying to take part in a swim early the next morning and Jan made us a packed breakfast to take with us. Our dinner in the evening was good. Comfortable rooms.
