Our first visit to The Feathers since the refurbishment and Chestnut group purchase. Very comfortable bed and furnishings, but the lack of hanging storage was the only fault (room 6) and no towel rail for drying in the bathroom. We only had a one night stay, so we were ok. Our evening meal and breakfast were very good. Overall, the jury's out on a return visit, a bit too contemporary for us.

The lack of hanging storage ( no wardrobe) would have been an issue for a longer stay. Never stayed anywhere where there wasn't a towel rail to dry towels unless you counted the hook on the door. Last year, we stayed at the Globe in Wells, whilst the refurb on The Feathers had overan. That room had a wardrobe but no drawers, I think the company doing the dressing of the rooms needs a big storage rethink.

Both the pub and the dining facilities are great. The staff are amazing - so friendly and helpful in every way from housekeeping to reception to bar staff and waiting staff. It is a very dog friendly place - my Labrador had the best time!

There was a problem with my accommodation. We were allocated a family room when I booked which was all that was available as it was a busy weekend. It said on the details on the website that family rooms have all the benefits of a best room. which it didn't. We were given a room with a very small double bed which I would never have booked as we cant sleep in such a small bed. I had to sleep in the bunk bed. We were moved on the third night of our booking to a bigger room and given a complimentary dinner and wine. The manager and staff were very helpful and apologetic about this and handled it very well. However this needs to be addressed on the website. Paying £200 a night for a small room with a tiny bed is not OK!

Breakfast is so important as it is the last memory of any stay, and if you get this wrong it changes the overall perception. In this case the breakfasts were perfect for the occasion. I was impressed by your ‘new’ Willow Rooms - nice to be able to amble up the street to the peace and quiet of the house with its assorted bedrooms, where there is communal space inside and out. Bedroom and bathroom excellent - comfy bed and practical bathroom with excellent shower. Service and menu selection in the bar and restaurant and reception were also excellent, and I was particularly impressed that you maintained a personal touch right from the start of the booking confirmation. To be contacted personally by telephone to enquire whether we needed a booking for dinner on our arrival day was special, as at that stage we had no idea what was available in the locality. In the end by chance we ate at The Bell on the Sunday evening - another member of your Chestnut Group. Keep doing all the little things right and you will I am sure continue with this success. We look forward to another stay in one of the Groups venues.

For a three day break walking, visiting gardens and time on the beach there was nothing to complain about!

Much preferred The Lawns v The Feathers because the Bedroom (22) was much bigger and the Bathroom was excellent. Really good water pressure in the Shower. Having The Feathers Breakfast was a real bonus and the location of The Lawns is so much more convenient. The Parking is 100% better that the back of The Feathers. I will always plump for The Lawns over The Feathers as it fits so much better.

Location, Location Location. Much better decorated and the bathroom is so much better and the shower power is excellent. This was such an pleasant surprise and Thank you Chestnut Group for putting together such a brilliant facility.

Although we were in the Lawns, and not in the Feathers,we were happy with the room.It was spacious, very clean with beds remade every day.

The security of the LAWNS was non existent.Anyone could walk into the building,as all of the doors were left open throughout the day.We never had to use our key,as the front door, the conservatory door, and on occasions even the fire door was left open. We had the room with the conservatory(no.18)and on one day,we locked the bedroom and conservatory doors and went out for the day.We returned later in the evening to find the conservatory door had been unlocked and left wide open,Anyone could could have walked into our bedroom. We reported all of these incidents, but it didn’t improve during our stay.We would suggest self locking Yale lock.

We booked this place as we were going the following day to see the seals at Morston Quay. The journey from Manchester took forever by car and we had exceeded check-in time way past the deadline. The staff were very welcoming and understanding about this. Their position was: "It's 9 o'clock! Have dinner, drive safely and we'll have someone waiting for you when you arrive. Don't worry about it" [mind you, we'd left Manchester at 4 PM on the day and we were still around in Peterborough around 9:30 PM]. Now, regarding the rooms! They are stunning and look exactly like in the pictures (including the monkey plush!). Bonus: the mattresses are amazing, like sleeping on "feathers"! ;) Overall, for a 2-night stay, we were very happy with what we got! It definitely beat staying at an IHG hotel around!

During the first day, the rooms got quite hot with little room for ventilation. Now, it was August when we stayed, so it's scorching anyways, though some A/C would be welcome (the poor little fan didn't do much unfortunately)

The breakfast was very good, self serve, food items replenished often. Room was higher price but higher standard than some other hotels we have stayed in so would say a decent price for decent accommodation. Holt itself is quiet and upmarket compared to the big coastal towns, good food places (so much so, lots get booked up early), independent smaller shops but not too far from coast or bigger ,more usual high street shopping.

Our double room was 2 single beds attached together but this in itself did not cause a problem. The coffee machine (with pods) was not working properly and we had no milk in the room for when we arrived. The rooms themselves were in a separate location to the check in (albeit only 2 mins walk away) which we didn't realise when booking so no staff immediately on site to answer questions we had. This was a bonus as far as car parking was concerned however as the parking behind 'The feathers' itself was very limited.

The new rooms in The Lawns annexe are superb. Breakfast buffet was very good. Evening meal also excellent

Service in the restaurant in the evening was very slow and a bit disjointed. We got our table at 8 pm after a long wait (Even though we had a reservation) but were than told when we wanted to order a dessert at 9.20 that the kitchen was closed! But up stepped Scott (the manager?) and got them to cook us what we wanted and it was superb. Had the service not been so slow we would not have needed to trouble the kitchen after hours. Why can't serving staff be more proactive and awake? Well done Scott for saving the night!

Dinner was super -great food and nice atmosphere. Lots of spaces in hotel to sit - some quiet some more buzzy. Location was great. Room at The Lawns was nice - though limited decaf in the room.

Breakfast was a bit chaotic and cramped at the food counter / area and needed to wait for items to be replenished and hunt for the plates! The breakfast room/area is large, so maybe better set up across a larger counter area or bits for he room so people are on top of each other and standing in front of a hot toaster waiting. Parking was limited at the The Feathers and back car park very small.

The room had just been upgraded and decorated. Lovely large ground floor room, lovely large comfortable bed. The bathroom was spotless with a huge walk in shower. There is also a nice communal Lounge and garden available for guests to use. The room we had was away from the main building but only a minute walk. The breakfast was excellent and plentiful.

There were a few minor teething problems but nothing that really spoiled our stay. Couldn't get the WiFi to work on annex. TV stations kept dropping out (possible weather problems on the night we stayed) The fan in the bathroom is very, very noisy and activates when you switch on light. To eliminate the problem we left the mirror light on for the night. We dined in the hotel restaurant and I was disappointed with the meal. The haddock was not the best and the so called "triple cooked chips" were burnt. I did complain and fair play the meal was taken off the bill.
