Holiday Inn Express London - Epsom Downs, an IHG Hotel

The view was amazing, parking really good and the hotel felt welcoming and clean as you entered. The staff I spoke to were friendly and the room was a decent size. Restaurant being across the road was great and the food there was incredible.

The corridors were a little in need of repair with lots of doors damaged. In my room, the bed wasn't too comfortable and the pillow selection wasn't great so I was glad I had brought my own pillow. The only mirror in the room had no plug sockets near it so was annoying when straightening my hair. Could do with an extra mirror somewhere near the sockets. The sink in the bathroom looked dirty all the time with embedded rings of dirt - I'm sure it wasn't but perhaps the sides need treating in some way to make them look cleaner. Not enough tea bags etc - only two and I drink a lot of tea whilst away from home for work.

The bed were comfortable. The room was clean. Breakfast was ok

We asked for a room with a view. We got it. Then, a rumbling noise seemed to be in the room. This became louder at night time. Reported this to the front desk. They thought it was the air con, but it wasn't coming from there. The maintenance man came, and I don't know what he did. Noise remained. Reported again. No one was interested in coming to hear the rumbling. They changed us rooms from a double with a great view to single beds with a tree to look at. This was a romantic few days away with husband for our anniversary. Shame.

A very smart, unobtrusive hotel yet easy to find, situated on the Epsom Downs. Almost a hidden find. A professional staff, friendly and efficient. everywhere was spotless and the hotel quiet. Nothing to fault. Breakfast was basic but certainly adequate. Good coffee making machine. A good bar and a wide selection of comfortable seating. The car park is in front of the hotel with easy parking. Location perfect, for walking the Epsom Downs or proximity to the station. The two pubs close-by have an excellent menu. A short drive away is a Beefeaters pub.

Not a dislike, but this is the only HI Express not to serve a limited evening menu. This means of course that you need to eat out in the evening, although deliveries are allowed. If it was a wet, cold evening, I’d rather have the option of a bar meal than feel I had to go out.

Bus stop just 200 metres away, got to epsom train station in 10 minutes then could get into London city in 30 to 40 minute's. Good for going to thorpe park and chessington only 30mins away, I had my car for that, depends on traffic. Room was good size and air conditioned room serviced every day. Breakfast was good great selection of hot food and pastries, cereals and fruit.

Be good if they offered a bigger dinning menu rather than just pizzas, although can use just eat or restaurant bar across road at race course.

Staff friendly and professional, room impeccably clean; quiet and friendly atmosphere, generous breakfast and pub down the road for dinner (though if you walk you do need to cross a busy road to get there and at night cars go fast..; the pub food is fine/ok; a bit expensive for what it is) - if you wish to stay in the hotel, you can order a pizza (we didn't). We also liked the free extra-bed for my (teenage) son - a sofa bed (fine in itself, though a room for 3 people with a proper bed for the third person would be even better/more comfortable).

Location is great in itself but it would be great to have a wider range of options for dinner within the hotel or without having to take a car.

Breakfast was tasty and plentiful, proving take away breakfast is a nice feature and letting us take away a banana and muffin for our toddler was very helpful. The staff were very friendly, lots of smiles and gave the impression they actually wanted to be there. The room had everything we needed with lots of storage spaces and hooks. The bathroom had a ingenious door design allowing you to shut off the toilet or whole bathroom depending where you shut it, meaning sharing a room wasn't inconvenient to anyone. The lighting was really good and the blue night light for the bathroom was a great touch. A well thought out room.

The floor in the bathroom flooded from the shower even to the side of the shower so even items placed away from the shower on the floor got wet. If you don't drive this is not a convenient location. Trains are a 40 minute walk but a fairly quick taxi. The entrance is across a road, a gate through the fence and path or crossing to the pavement would help. Our room was just down from the lifts on the ground floor, there was a lot of noise from people running around or yelling to each other, this probably would have been better if the door between the lifts and the room hallway was closed. A policy of closing or even having a self closing door would be beneficial to those with early beds.

Lovely setting on Epsom Downs adjacent racecourse. The hotel was light, airy and very spacious. Plenty of comfortable seating to relax in reception, bar and dining open plan areas. The room was comfortable, clean and light decor; Outlook onto racecourse. My wife and I really liked the place. Buffet breakfast was good and The Rubbing House 2 minutes walk away was an excellent restaurant and bar. Hotel staff were wonderfully helpful and friendly.

Booked for my elderly parents. Perfect location for them to visit all family. Staff where excellent in caring for their complex needs. There was nothing that was too much trouble. Both in the hotel and the restaurant. They had help with luggage, getting up and down steps, getting to the toilets. Very patient with choosing from the menu, happy to make changes such as shopping new potatoes for mash and smaller portions. Brought breakfast to their room when they missed breakfast deadline. Very pleased with the care and patience given.

Restaurant location. I had to drive my parents as walking involved a set of steps and a walk across uneaten grassed area. Would be impossible to use a walking frame. Not good for disabled and if don’t drive would have to book a cab for 3 minute drive.

Room has air conditioning. Light and airy. Buffet breakfast was good with a w ide selection of hot and cold

Apple AirPods taken from our bedroom by staff. Complained to reception who would look into it. Following day the AirPods were back but had been placed in a side pocket of one of our cases. This pocket has never been used by us! Reception said they would look into by checking their cctv as to who went in/out of the room. Still waiting for. Response

The breakfast team on Sunday a.m. were doing a cracking job, I think energised by a positive and hands-on team leader. They were not afraid to do the simple things like say good morning to the guests and were confident. The place is quite light and airy given its size. They were able to give us a quiet room as requested. Great to be able to open a window with the breeze off The Downs.

In contrast the breakfast team on Saturday were a little lacklustre, though perfectly polite and willing. Just need a bit more oomph and organisation around the tasks. Mattresses in our room will need to think about being replaced in the near future, they were not terrible but getting past their best.
