My first visit to the Isle of Wight was an absolute delight. Our stay at Stroud House was a true treat, and we felt incredibly fortunate to have stumbled upon it. Freshwater, with its stunning landscapes and excellent hiking opportunities, proved to be an ideal location for nature enthusiasts like us. One of the highlights of our stay was the breathtaking hike along the coast to the Needles. The scenic beauty was simply unparalleled. Sarah, our host at Stroud House, deserves special mention. Her warm hospitality was evident in the lovely breakfasts she prepared for us each morning in her charming conservatory. Her recommendations for places to visit and dine were invaluable and added immensely to our experience. We discovered the Red Lion pub within walking distance from the house, and the dinner we enjoyed there was nothing short of fantastic. During our stay, we explored various parts of the island, including Osborne House, Shanklin, Yarmouth, Freshwater Bay, and the Garlic Farm. Each place had its unique charm and left us with cherished memories. What struck me most about the Isle of Wight was the relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, not only among the people but also in the overall energy of the island. It was a truly rejuvenating and memorable experience.

Sarah, the owner, was an amazing host. She was absolutely lovely and open. It was a new and interesting experience staying in a small B&B and I can't recommend Sarah more. She welcomed us to her home and showed us a bit of her life and hobbies. She has a very personal approach to her guests and offers a personalised breakfasts. The building is a gorgeous house with a lot of character and Sarah keeps improving is as it goes. Me and my partner had a wonderful stay and uses Sarah's recommendations as to what else to see. We will most definitely come back!

Stroud House is amazing, and Sarah is a wonderful host! We were very comfortable and nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was exceptional, plentiful choice of cereals, fresh fruit and homemade fruit compotes followed by whatever combination of high quality eggs, bacon, sausages, mushrooms and tomatoes one could want all, beautifully cooked and presented. Sarah really does make you feel so welcome. We shall definitely recommend and hopefully return again!

Absolutely nothing!!

Cooked fresh to order and extra touches with how the tomatoes and mushrooms were cooked. Sarah suggested where to go and what to see. Freshwater is the quieter end of the island, but plenty to see and do.

I am not sure that I didn’t like anything. Some people would have missed not having a television in the room or a separate room to sit and watch, especially if the weather is bad.

Sarah the host was a delightful lady and a great host. She was extremely friendly and helpful. She went out of her way to be accommodating and her made to order breakfasts were delicious. When looking for accommodation we hope to have a comfortable bed and pillows, a nutritious breakfast and a clean environment and Sarah provided all of this. The location was very convenient just near the bus stop so no need for a car. The Red Lion Pub was a short walk away and it served great food. Thank you Sarah for your wonderful hospitality!

The room is a well appointed en-suite on the first floor of Stroud House, a large private house in Freshwater village. We stayed overnight as part of a round the island cycling break. Sarah welcomed us on arrival and ensured that there was somewhere safe for our bicycles overnight. The tea and cake provided by Sarah was very much appreciated after a day's cycling. She was very friendly and helpful. After a comfortable night's sleep, we were provided with a fantastic cooked breakfast which set us up for another day's cycling. Thank you for a great stay.

Sarah was the perfect host welcoming us with a pot of tea and slice of banana cake on arrival. The room was very comfortable and cooked breakfast delicious made with local produce. Sarah accommodated us for an extra night when a storm prevented us moving on, and gave us ideas of places to visit in and around Freshwater. The Red Lion is perfect for an evening meal or the Piano Cafe for lunch, both a short walk from Stroud House.

The breakfasts were amazing. So much thought went into producing special daily breakfasts which we requested. The hostess made fresh sauces, jams etc. and she used homegrown and local produce daily. The breakfasts were served in a lovely spacious conservatory

Everything was perfect

Our stay in Freshwater was greatly enhanced by the care and attention provided by Sarah. The breakfasts were imaginative as well as delicious and Sarah's local knowledge invaluable in preventing us from getting lost on our walks. Stroud House is an interesting property full of items which were exactly to our taste. This is not your regular B&B and would suit those who are happy to settle themselves into accomodation that provides interest and comfort.

Didn't like leaving.

Everything. Sarah was a welcoming host and nothing was too much trouble. Her homemade museli was the best I've ever tasted. Our room was comfy, clean and had a sofa so we could relax in the evening before going out for our evening meal. It was like home from home.

Nothing.
