Great rooms, great reception from staff, great breakfast.

Unfortunately the curfew, this is understandable due to having no entrance other than through the pub itself. This is explained in the description before booking.

on arrival was greeted by Molly who was friendly and polite and showed me to my room which was lovely clean and bright and had everything in it that was needed for what was a fantastic two nights stay in a good comfy bed as well , the evening meals were extremely good and a good choice on the menu, beer was also good and breakfast was first class both mornings. Richard, and his staff run a very organized ship here and I could not fault it in any way they were all very professional and worked off each other seamlessly. I will defiantly be staying in the future that's for sure.

there really wasn't nothing

Apart from the the above mentioned we did have a lovely stay. The room was clean, warm and comfortable. We did stay for our dinner which was excellent and would highly recommend. The bed was very comfy and lovely and quiet once the pub had closed at 11pm The breakfast was great quality and delicious.

The room didn't have any hand soap just a dispenser by the shower, which was very difficult to reach due to the shower screen. On arrival you are asked to leave your room key at the bar if you go out which we understand but the keys are like a ball and chain literally! A little OTT if you ask me. There is also no food or drink allowed in the rooms, you are asked to kindly eat in the pub restaurant. You can incur a £25 per person fine if caught doing so. Breakfast was only served until 9am which left no time for a lie in on the Sunday morning. Although they served to the general public from 9.30am. There is also a 11pm curfew which you are pre warned about. We only stayed the one night so a lot of the above didn't affect our stay but wouldn't want to stay any longer.

This was my first visit, and I will definitely be stopping again when I next visit Huddersfield. It's a busy old pub, in a superb country village location and they serve a wide a wide variety of drinks and meals, so once you have checked-in, you can have a great night. The landlord and all his staff were friendly and welcoming and my room and bathroom were spotless. I thoroughly enjoyed my (simple) breakfast, after declining a "full English".

The pub doesn't have a car park, and so you have to park on the (unrestricted) main road through the village. This could be a problem for some visitors when arriving at busy times. I had a short walk and it was OK for me.

The village itself is unbelievably beautiful, like words can't describe how breathtaking this place is. The Rose and Crown is also a beautiful building. The staff were extremely kind and attentive to make sure you're comfortable and looked after. As a solo, female traveller, I always get really nervous when going to unfamiliar places, but I was made to feel welcome and right at home for the night. The food was insanely good, totally worth the money, and the breakfast the next day was hearty and filling. No menus for the breakfast too, you just get asked what you want and they deliver. The room I stayed in was clean, and the shower essentially power washed me which is the best feeling ever. I 100% would recommend this place to anybody wanting to see wonderful sites and feel welcomed into a community. I will definitely be staying here again!

The positives hugely outweigh any minor niggles. The property was exceptional value for money and one of the nicest places we have stayed. Richard and the whole team were incredibly friendly and welcoming. The room was very clean and the bed very comfortable. The general friendliness and welcoming atmosphere of the pub was beyond compare. The food was excellent, the full English breakfast was absolutely top notch and the gluten free menu was exceptional and very extensive. Lovely atmosphere, charming, honest and genuine. The wine list was very good. We loved "Gin of the week" at the bar. We absolutely loved the huge medallion key chains! The shower in the bathroom was brilliant!

Only minor niggles: The floor boards were very noisy and we could hear the occupants of the next door room moving around throughout the night but we do appreciate it is an old property. The bathroom was quite tired, the extractor fan was noisy and the toilet flush was not brilliant, however the shower was absolutely amazing! The emergency green light above the bed was a little invasive, but again we appreciate the need for it.

A warm welcome from the moment I arrived at this family-run, traditional pub. The landlord, Richard, the team, and the locals were all lovely and made a solo traveller feel right at home! Amazing menu - large portions and very reasonable prices. The room was perfect for what I needed, and the location was beautiful, ideally placed for a short commute to the place I was working the following day. Sent on my way with a superb breakfast and a friendly farewell. I will definitely consider The Rose and Crown for future Yorkshire stays. I've already told my friends and colleagues all about it.

My only tiny issues were the parking situation and a couple of cobwebs in my room. But given the rural village location, and the rustic charm of the pub, I couldn't really class these as faults!

Richard was a very warm and welcoming host. He answered all of our questions and even put up with us wanting to get up very early. He also gave us some good travel and trip advise. All his staff were very helpful and very friendly and were incredibly patient. We felt right at home. The Inn and village are lovely and so are the people there. The food was top notch and Richard tries his best to accommodate every wish you have for breakfast. We couldn't have been more happy with our choice.

Parking can be a bit tricky on a busy night.

Good accommodation, nice sized bedroom, comfortable bed. Staff very helpful and jolly. Very good breakfast. Pub meals looked really good, but unfortunately we did not partake as we had booked a local restaurant. Conveniant for Holmfirth, a five minute drive down the hill ( bit of a drag if you fancy walking up it)

Be aware there is only street parking. This could be an issue during busy pub hours, as some local residents use the street parking too. Interestingly, there is a pub curfew at 11.00 pm. If you like the later social hours this could be a problem.

The staff where very friendly and welcoming! The food was first class! We really enjoyed it here and will certainly be back! Massive selection of freebies in the rooms, hot chocolates, bottles of water, biscuits and off course the teas and coffees! We picked one of the sumner houses to eat in which is a great touch to the place, eating in our own heated mini restaurant, slurping down our wine having a great big giggle! Breakfast was a full English again so good and free!! Certainly value for money!! Gutted we had to leave

All good
