1885 the Venue - Pub, Restaurant, Rooms & Function House0

Took my sister to a concert in The Piece Hall and stayed here for the night. It was amazing! We were instantly made to feel comfortable when we walked in, such lovely and genuine staff!! I’m usually quite anxious but I felt so at ease here. Room was immaculate and breakfast was delicious with friendly service again. Wish more places were like this, I’ve already recommended it to family & would love to come back again. Thank you all!

Nothing to fault! My only worry prior to coming was about how accessible it was for non-drivers, but taxis/ubers and buses were constant and easily available! Staff were very helpful about this before our stay when I enquired also.

We stayed here for one night to catch up with friends. The room was large clean and very comfortable. It was upstairs which were steep. We had dinner in the restaurant and could not fault our food in any way. One guest had steak which just melted in your mouth, two others had the 21 hour cooked lamb, and the other one had fish and chips. Service was quick and always with a smile.

Breakfast was a little bit chaotic, they appeared to be short staffed at the beginning but other staff did arrive. Although tasty some of the breakfast was overcooked. They had a collection of beautiful stoneware which unfortunately was not fit for purpose. The teapot overflowed when you used it and the cups rattled around on the saucers. These items would be better off on display and a more functional set used for guests

I visited the 1885 with my partner for a friend's wedding in the summer. Having traveled from Berlin in the early morning we were very tired and the manager and bartender both made us feel so at home. He showed us to our lovely room right away, and gave us privacy, and all the essential details. We had mentioned we were hungry and he offered us a menu as soon as we came downstairs after a short nap and a shower. The food was excellent, a terrific steak from locally reared animals and a beautiful fillet of fish – just terrific. My partner had never visited Yorkshire before and I was excited to show her around my region, having spent a long time speaking of the friendly nature and hospitality of my home, I couldn't have been happier with the respectful, friendly, down-to-earth nature of everyone working at the 1885. What a delight, and exceptionally comfy rooms, at a crazy affordable price. If you're staying anywhere in the calder valley I would wholeheartedly recommend the 1885. P.S. great beer and an excellent all inclusive breakfast too

. .Absolutely loved this place.Spotlessly clean,lovely comfy bed and pillows.Modern tasteful bedroom and bathroom.Also quiet in the night great for a good night's sleep.Staff were all very friendly and helpful.Kelsey was very helpful and even booked a taxi for us.Both Kelsey and Lucy did a great job in the restaurant and breakfast area they gave excellent service.Thomas cleaned our room perfectly and was a really friendly helpful guy.The manager himself took us to our room and explained all we needed to know.. Food in the dining areas was excellent.In the restaurant it was very busy but we didn't wait long before our order was taken and served. The fish, chips and peas we had were delicious and piping hot. The fish was huge and the batter perfect.. From now on when we visit this area this is our to go to place.. Thank you everyone, your service was great. Well done.👏👏👌

There wasn't anything we disliked.For the two of us everything was fabulous.

This place is a hidden gem. A few winding roads to get there but satnav to the rescue. On arrival, parking on public land felt a bit odd but was reassured by staff that it was fine & it was very close to the front door. All the staff were very friendly & chatty (to the extreme but maybe I've just forgotten how friendly & open & honest Yorkshire folk are!) & very helpful. The room was excellent - we'd picked a 'small double' as it was only one night & we'd booked last minute. For £60 we expected to be less than comfortable & for it to be barely ok but it wasn't that small at all (except maybe the shower cubicle) & was perfectly adequate for our needs. The stairs a bit steep & no lift but that's old buildings for you! The refurbishment & joining of the separate buildings has been done very well & decorated so it's welcoming & warm, not fussy or too 'posh'. The pub downstairs was very good & food was served quicly - but the portions are HUGE - we could have shared one meal & been full. We have healthy appetites & it was too much, a bit overwhelming & we ate too much but didn;t want to leave anything as it was delicious. Breakfast was lovely too - a decent cuppa with proper milk. Didn't have time to explore the next door parklands but maybe next time. It opened in difficult times but deserves to do well. We will be a back.

Be warned: It's a bit far out if you're relying on public transport or taxis. The radiator in the bathroom was constantly hot - could have burned if not careful.

The food in the bar was outstanding and the staff were so attentive especially Elle she really doesnt stop. We joined for the quiz in the bar and the locals were so friendly and it was such good fun. The room was fresh and spotlessly clean and the bed was so comfortable we especially liked the quality of the toiletries. The breakfast was amazing and so much choice the quality was fantastic. We were upgraded to a bigger room which was lovely.

The room was very hot, we opened the windows but there was lots of road noise. A fan in the room would have made our stay 10 out of 10.

Lovely welcome and accompanied to room. The accommodation was great with a very comfortable bed a freestanding full length mirror and a large bathroom. The shower was brilliant with really nice toiletries and fluffy towels. There were a lot of options on the breakfast menu and I had the American pancakes (yum). Lots of free parking available. A nice atmosphere in the bar too.

There was nothing I didn’t like. I will definitely return soon.

Very good location as only 5 minutes from the wedding I was attending. They let me pick up the key before check in time so I could arrive late after the wedding and go straight to my room. Breakfast was quick and tasted great. The little touches like the shower gel and the drinks selection was a great touch

My bed sheet had. A crusty mark on it just further down the bed from the pillows so was very obvious. There was a welcome book but it didn't say when breakfast was served to so got ready quickly in the morning, would've been nice to know I was ok taking my time.

Beautiful location- a 10 min scenic drive from Halifax. Very friendly attentive staff. Great food menu for evening meal- food was excellent- and had several gf options, the quality of which were very good.

nothing really- there’s a flight of steps up to the rooms- that could be challenging for some people but was fine for us and everything else was so good, it didn’t matter. Room was lovely but a bit lacking in places to store things- for 1 or 2 of hrs, this would be fine but maybe a little challenging for longer stays.

The room was beautiful and the ensuite facilities were modern and clean. The breakfast was delicious and served in a fabulous dining room with an open plan kitchen.

The only down side for me personally was the steep stairs up to the room. I have mobility issues and only just was able to manage them. Future visits may not be possible for me, but until my condition prevents me I would stay here again.
