The hotel was beautiful inside retaining the old rustic charm , immaculately clean . The staff were lovely . Evening meal was lovely , amazing home made chips , great wine list . Central and near facilities , Sainsbury's across the road .. Premier shop next door Plenty of places to eat nearby

We managed the key fob back door , but were a little anxious about losing the fob as if it was lost the fine was £100. I was tempted to leave the fob at reception and just take the room key, I would recommend this if you are absent minded like me 🙈 and if you are prepared to be in by 10 as front door open until then. . Toilet flush in room 202 needed a little wriggle before push down and didn't always work first time . Bath plug wasn't secure so water flushed away quickly , Both the above are easily rectifiable and didn't affect our stay and I am sure maintenance will resolve easily. We loved the black lion and will be back thank you

Right in the heart of Lampeter. Staff were so friendly and responsive to my needs, felt like staying with family! Great for a solo traveller. As well they have parking out the back, with CCTV.

The place is very warm because of the old materials used to build it. The top rooms have fans but would benefit from air con. As well the noise from the Main Street could be heard in the front rooms along High st, they would be much better with double glazing. Staff were wonderful when I asked for quieter room and accommodated my needs. They have also done a refurbish and in general the place looks nice.

Staff were fantastic-- so friendly and helpful- very well trained. Food was also excellent- highly recommended. Good parking. Good range of beers/lagers. In the middle of Lampeter, although mid week there was not a great deal going on. Easy reach of Aberaeron and New Quay- 20 mins at the most.

The room was a little small but had all amenities. Small things like old screw holes not filled in and ceiling repair not smoothed down and some marks on walls let it down a little, but would not stop me staying again.

The hotel is well positioned and easy to find, parking is plentiful and the rear access to the hotel from the car park was secure and easy to use. The room was spacious (plenty of room for two adults, a baby travel cot and a large dog crate), well equipped with a small kettle, tea, coffee, milk, sugar, biscuits, mugs and glasses, alongside the obvious linens and towels. Body wash and soap was also provided, with all restocked daily. The bed was large and comfortable (perfect for a good sleep after a days hiking), and the restaurant and bar areas were clean and spacious. Breakfast was generous and quick, with plenty of options for continental and cooked. Staff were helpful, accommodating a room change after I called to confirm our room was pet friendly, welcoming our check in later in the evening, and each day getting us seated for breakfast. For a last minute trip (booked just six days before) this was a bargain find, made better by the inclusion of breakfast in the price! Would happily stay again in the future.

The room could do with a few minor repairs (eg. Reattached loo roll holder to wall). I’d advise calling with any queries also as they don’t seem to monitor their Booking.com messages, so I had to call to confirm our room was pet friendly after five days without a response to the message.

Everything was perfect , the staff, the room, the food, the selections of beer, everything was just spot on! The food was unreal , cooked fresh to order, proper sized portions and proper pricing, the rooms were absolutely spotless cleanliness wise, the beer was kept incredibly well (you could tell it’s was gassed properly and chilled properly when they poured you a pint!) even down to the glasses, you ask for a carling, you got it in a Carling glass, ask for a Boddingtons, you got a Boddingtons glass!!… I simply cannot find a fault with the whole hotel from any point!

There simply isn’t anything to dislike?

I have been recently diagnosed with a medical condition, and now have a limited diet which I am adapting to. The evening meal and breakfast were both great for me - tweeked to make them me-friendly, and very tasty! The staff were lovely on the whole. Parking behind the hotel great. A pretty historic hotel and restaurant. I would happily return!

One waitress not so great, but otherwise, really good! The room (203) was comfortable enough, although a noisy fan (?) outside the window was a bit bothersome, and seemed to run all night. My towel and bath mat were changed for the second night even though I had left them on the rail, indicating I didn't need them changed as requested, and the toilet flush was dodgy, getting stuck in the down position, but small niggles on the whole.

Excellent location on the high street with adequate car parking. Room spacious and clean. An older female member of staff served us on the bar and was in the restaurant at night she was bubbly, upbeat and really pleasant. The breakfast waitress was very friendly, polite and helpful. Breakfast was very good and very tasty - lovely to have Glamorgan sausages for the veggie option instead of the bog standard mass produced veggie alternatives.

The back of the hotel and car parking area looked a little neglected. There seemed to be lots of signs telling you what you couldn’t do. It’s a shame that only one real ale was on offer but understandable if there’s not the demand. Unfortunately, whilst all the staff were informative and pleasant, some were more interested in chatting behind reception than actually taking care of the customers. Perhaps a more obvious manager would improve this.

Lovely old hotel, extensively refurbished to a high standard with good secure parking at rear and in a quiet area of the high street. Lots of places to eat out locally, if you don't fancy the top quality restaurant on site. Staff excellent and attentive. Breakfast is highly recommended and the full Monty is very delicious (their locally sourced bacon is so thick it's practically gammon!). The price of the room is good if this is included. Useful access after hours via a back entrance and key fob.

As with most old buildings subject to building regs, the doors bang, floors creak and you can hear people next door. Not much they can do about this, but it might mean a disturbed night's sleep.

Lovely old hotel with a lot of character. A Superking bed which was very comfortable, well stocked teas, coffees, bottled water etc. A good sized room.

The kettle in the bedroom! Although very small, the problem was a short lead and it couldn't be raised off its boiling platform! The first time I used it I was scalded with burning water as I automatically picked it off its platform to pour out the water, so between the very short lead and still being attached it was potentially dangerous. Please either place a sign to advise people or buy kettles that are detachable!

The Black Lion Royal is absolutely brilliant. We loved our stay there and we'll definitely be coming back when visiting the area again. Very relaxed atmosphere, super doggy friendly 🐕❤️, staff were very welcoming and helpful and breakfast was delicious! Even our doggy got some brekkie treats! To top it all up, the room was very spacious, with extremely comfortable beds and pillows and a big ensuite (we booked the family room).

Nothing not to like. I'd recommend everyone who is considering staying to go ahead and book it, as you won't regret it.
