The Clerk & Well Pub and Rooms

Beautiful spacious rooms with good amenities, lovely welcoming staff, lovely and quiet and a great location, we couldn’t have asked for more!

The only thing to note is that we were told breakfast was from 7-11am when we checked in. We arrived at 10.25am the next morning to be told that breakfast was closed, and when we asked why we were told it ran till 11am, the bar staff member told us breakfast was served “till around 10.30/11am ish”. Luckily another member of staff overheard this conversation and told us we could in fact have breakfast and showed us to a table. The breakfast was an absolutely delicious cooked breakfast so I’m glad the chef was kind enough to still serve us, but if you’re staying here you might want to go a little early just in case!

- English breakfast in pub was very good - Room was very spacious, clean and quiet - Comfortable bed - Great water pressure and plenty of hot water - Very nice staff - Excellent location near lots of great pubs and restaurants in Clerkenwell, Holborn and Farringdon - tons to walk to and easy to take the tube from Farringdon or Chancery Road

- It wasn't a problem for us but we were on floor 5 which is up about 55 shallow stairs and there is no lift - I was uncomfortable with how housekeeping was handled: I came back around lunch time and all rooms were propped open on all 3 floors with guests belongings in full view and completely unattended. And, the safe in our room was broken. - Not a problem, but I found it a bit odd that there was no power outlet in the bathroom. - Ceiling fan in our room did not work and room was quite stuffy.

Very friendly and welcoming - let us drop off bags early as we had a Les Mis Matinée show. Room/ bed was very comfortable and nicely finished decor and furniture wise, as was the en suite. Breakfast was super - cooked to order with quality ingredients, as well as a nice freshly prepared latte. As someone who has spent many years in business hotels, in the UK and abroad, this was streets ahead of the corporates. Finally the location was spot on - a mile from King's X and a miles from the west end. Close to an eclectic choice of eateries away from the tourist traps. We will be back.....

Nothing! It was perfect for a weekend stay.

Great facilities for example, espresso machine and lovely bathroom and comfortable beds. Stylish decor. Great service from Claudia at breakfast and tasty breakfast. Great base location wise for the Shard, Borough market, Blackfriars entrance to the NYE fireworks and Kings Cross Camden area Very quiet area and above the pub.

We thought overall it was very impressive. The only slight downfall are the steep stairs. Being on the top floor meant you had to be careful especially after a couple of drinks and there was no lift. Fire escape could be a concern.

stayed here for almost an entire week because of the perfect proximity to both east london and the west end. whole staff was really kind and accommodating, even helped bring my painfully overstuffed luggage up a narrow flight of stairs when i arrived which was a real struggle im sure. restaurant was really high quality which was nice to lean on if you were tired from traveling about. i almost dont want to hype it up too much because the quiet / laid back nature of the location is part of the charm, but that wouldn't be fair to the staff who deserve all the props and accolades they can get!

The room was incredibly comfortable, the bed was huge and bath in our room was luxurious. The staff were friendly and helpful at all times. We enjoyed the food in the adjacent pub and were able to store our bags after check-out so that we could add in a few extra activities before returning home. It is only a 30min walk into the West End, or short tube ride from either of the nearby stations, which was perfect for our stay. The air con in our room wasn't working but when we mentioned it we were given a standing fan which was sufficient to cool the room. We would definitely think about staying here again when visiting London.

The stairs up to the rooms are a little uneven so you have to be careful which was trickier with bags. We popped back to our room at mid-afternoon on the middle day and found that someone was cleaning the rooms and had left all of the doors open to do so. We couldn't see anyone actually on our floor (though their phone was in our room) so we could have just walked into any of the other guest rooms. We had put away any valuables but weren't impressed that our room was just left open and unattended. As the rooms aren't accessible from outside without a key only other guests would have been able to get in though.

The manageress was very considerate and treated us very well. The bathroom to our room was being renovated so we were offered access to an adjoining room which meant we had two adjoining rooms and a bathroom. I locked myself out of the other room and a locksmith had to be summoned. Despite us wanting to pay, she insisted on paying for it. Lucky for us it was close to St. Pancras International from where we had to catch the Eurostar to Paris. Despite being a pub with lively patronage it was very quiet after 10.

Maybe change the lock on the door between the two rooms so management can access the other room easily.

My wife and I were visiting London from Australia and decided to stay at the Clerk And Well Hotel based on its location and reviews - the Hotel exceeded our expectations in terms of terrific customer service, lovely room, good breakfast and great Sunday Lunch. The staff particularly Claudia, Chris and the young lass who opened up the Hotel of a morning were all so very very helpful - we would recommend the Clerk And Well to anyone looking for good accomodation and meals in London.

lovely large room for the centre of London . complimentary drinks and snacks was a lovely touch . clean and tastefully decorated . 5min walk to the tube station .

As the pub below seems to have closed there was no staff around . I messaged my confirmed time of arrival and received a reply , but there was no-one around to greet us . I had to ring an emergency number on the window and wait for someone to arrive to check us in .

Room was lovely, spacious, cosy and surprising quiet. All round great place to stay. 100% would recommend and stay again.

We did leave something behind and trying to arrange to get this back or even check it was there proved very complicated and unsuccessful, to the point that after 2 emails and a telephone call with a promise to receive a call back which never materialised and I was left less than satisfied
