Very dog friendly - my puppy was allowed to go anywhere (except on the bed, which I totally agree with). The staff were all lovely and very helpful. Meals in the restaurant were delicious. Free on-site parking is very handy too. Will definitely stay here again

Sealant in the shower could do with being removed & redone due to patches of black mould. Otherwise room was very clean. The walls are a tad thin though - the American/Canadian man in the room next door made loud phone-calls late in the evening (after 11pm) that disturbed me 2 nights running. Proper cups / mugs for in-room tea & coffee would be preferable to the paper ones provided, though it was great to have facilities to make a hot drink irrespective :)

The customer service by the staff was incredible, they were so friendly. The young staff in the restaurant couldn’t have been more helpful, and reception were lovely. The food was fantastic, we had dinner and breakfast here and both were great.

There were only two minor issues with the room. In the ensuite the bath was damaged and there were toothpaste marks on the taps and toothbrush holders, although everything else was perfectly clean. And it was very hot, the fan supplies was woeful and stop started. To be fair, we didn’t mention this so they didn’t have any opportunity to give us a working fan.

The Crown was a great stay, lovely staff, nice loacation if you want some stunning, secluded woodland walks with waterfalls and the like. I loved that I could travel with my dogs without extortionate extra fees, they had 2 little grassy areas nearby for wee wees and free parking. Breakfast had decent variety and even as a gluten free vegan, I had opions for dinners and dessert. Every member of staff I encountered was friendly, helpful and welcoming. Can't fault a thing.

The only thing I actually didn't enjoy was the proximity of my room and the hotel to the cattle market, meaning I got to listen to distressed, screaming cows for 24 hours, which was a little unsettling for both me and one of my dogs was also made anxious by all the noise. This probably isn't a concern for most people, but it would be a consideration for me if I was to stay here again. No complaints at all about the actual hotel. It's an old building so there's patchy wifi and the shower was a bit hard to control the temperature of, but that's all to be expected. Just glad there was wifi and a working, hot shower!

This is a large and characterful old hotel on the edge of Newton Stewart. We stayed one night, on a cycling tour. The first bonus, after the warm welcome from Laura, was a secure room to store our bikes. The next was the availability of a table for dinner in the Knight’s restaurant. Although everything was very quiet when we arrived it soon became apparent that the restaurant is a popular place. Justifiably, as the food turned out to be very good. Every member of staff we encountered was delightful. We had a large twin bedded room which was very comfortable with a good en suite including an excellent shower. Breakfast was full Scottish, including haggis and tattle scone (fairly standard in this part of Scotland) and of course the option of porridge. We left feeling very well fed and well rested. Would book again without hesitation.

I can’t think of anything here.

The service was unmatched, every member of staff were helpful, efficient and friendly, they couldn't do enough for you. The restaurant menu was great - a lot of variety especially with the specials menu changing frequently too. Breakfast was also a winner, continental and a full Scottish breakfast if you wanted (you could pick as many or as less items as wanted). The hotel is more than 300 years old so it was lovely staying somewhere that holds a small amount of history.

Managed to connect to the wifi for most nights automatically but it was knocked off on my last evening and it never connected again.

Evening meal was good and the quantities were big. Same with breakfast, large with multiple choices. Not keen on prebooking breakfast but understand why. Nice quiet location with little noise from the road or the restaurant / bar on the ground floor. Had a wonderful walk in the Woods of Cree despite the rain

Very little the hotel could have done about the weather or the lack of facilities in the town. The room was on the small side especially when the sloping ceilings are taken into account. The shower was small but manageable.

Our arrival time was close to 11pm. I had informed the hotel of this prior to arrival and sure enough when we arrived there was a delightful young lady there to welcome us. We really appreciated the hotel catering for our late arrival. The hotel itself was first class and the breakfast truly excellent. We regularly stay in hotels throughout the UK and the one thing that makes a hotel stand out for me is the staff. The staff in this hotel were superb. Always cheerful and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. I was very very impressed.

Nothing I did not like.

Very welcoming staff, friendly and very helpful. Rooms were well presented and clean. Rooms were spacious comfortable for the family. Toilets were clean with plenty of towels. Meals were freshly cooked and served within the hotel restaurant. Staff were patient and friendly. The hotel was well known in the town and complemented upon. The hotel building is old but well maintained and clean. Hotel grounds are well maintained. Parking is within the grounds offering easy access to vehicles.

No negatives. Family had a good night and enjoyed the stay. Would recommend The Crown hotel.

Room was adequate, bathroom basic but clean-i was in a tiny little room 11 -breakfast was excellent -Loved that it was easy to accomodate the group of 6 easily. We ate dinner in the hotel and the service and meal was very good. WE were allowed to sit on comfortably to finish our drinks. The young man at the front desk could not be more helpful. He provided us with maps and directions to nice walking paths and nothing was a bother to him. Extra bed blankets were provided immediately on asking.

TV only had a few channels,,room was small.

Comfortable room, enough floor space for one person. Excellent breakfast, they served until 9:30am. Also had dinner one night, tasty burger & great service. There're several parking spaces on the side of the building, however it's also easy to park on the street. Free bottled water in the room and tea/coffee pack provided on arrival. Nice view from second floor over the roof tops. Electric shower provided plenty of hot water without the need to wait. Would be happy to stay again.

Shower felt very tight. Ceiling was lower than expected; if you 180cm or taller, request a room on first floor or you'll hit your head. Stairs to second floor are narrow. Double bed was "tucked in" against the wall with sloped ceiling on one side; fine for one person, but for two guests you'd have to wiggle a bit to get in and out.
