Star Hotel

The pub attached was so lovely, really welcoming people from the staff to the locals. Dog friendly actually meant dog friendly and not just dog tollerent like most places we find. Yes it could do with some updating to the rooms which I think is planned but for the price it had everything we needed. Food at the pub was not your typical pub food it was exceptional.

Like I said the rooms could do with updating but that was taken into consideration with the pricing so I wouldn’t say it was bad by any means.

The room in the annex was excellent - Quiet, comfortable bed, two good size wardrobes with lots of hangers, two comfortable armchairs, a large & easy to operate television & there was a small teapot; rarely find a teapot these days. I really appreciated the large bathroom with its good quality fittings - Large Mira shower cubicle, good size sink and a large wall-mounted mirror. The staff at the hotel were warm & friendly and I was able to enjoy a good pint of beer and a nice reasonably priced meal each each evening.

always a warm welcome when I visit. perfect location for when I come up photographing in Galloway. The little extra touches in the room are always very welcome. I would not stay anywhere else whenever I am in the area

The room was clean, cosy and private. The shower was spacious with a great supply of hot water! Communication was all online, including the self-checkin process, but communication was excellent. Queries were responded to quickly and politely. On arrival, information about our stay was clear and helpful. Being able to bring our dog was an added bonus. It was great value for money. I would definitely recommend the Star hotel.

A bit more information on parking would have been useful as well as the checkout process.

Friendly service, clean & bright rooms, very reasonably priced, lovely breakfast, with lots of options. Would definitely stay here again.

The only issue I had was not with the hotel but with Booking.Com sadly. Have booked via you many times without issue but was disappointed that the payment, which was taken by Booking.Com before my trip, hadn’t been forwarded to the hotel, which proved a little awkward on arrival. I’m sure it was an administration error & I hope it has been sorted but would like to make you aware of the issue if it hasn’t been sorted.

Atmosphere, food, staff, locals, everything was fantastic, welcomed with open arms and met a lot of friendly people, cannot recommend enough! They accommodated my friends with their dog with no problems at all, staff were very friendly, helpful for local knowledge and had a banging karaoke when I got there 👍

Lovely place, Susie and staff were really accommodating. Easy to stay on the way to Stranraer for the ferry. Comfortable room and excellent shower. I forgot my toothbrush and there was two in the room along with toothpaste and other niceties. Lovely garden and the food was excellent. They couldn’t do enough for us, especially at breakfast - which was delicious. Blueberries, strawberries, melon and all sorts at breakfast and proper sausages and we’ll cooked eggs. Thanks so much!

Could park near bedroom door.No stairs to carry luggage up. staff could not be more helpful,beyond expectation. Breakfast prepared exceptionally well ,hot and delicious.The lady who cooked it even found me an emergency hat for the wedding I was attending on Sunday as I had forgotten mine and all shops were shut. Every wish of mine was attended to timeously, the boss quickly making sure my window shut properly. The en-suite bedroom was the most perfectly prepared,laid out and comfortableI have ever found anywhere.I repeat,,,anywhere! Hats off to the people of the Solway.I felt truly treasured.Thank you so much

The lady looking after us, sorry forgot to ask name, was a wonderful friendly host. We dined in evening, the lamb shank and the fish and chips were excellent. The cooked breakfast was also excellent. The gin and the ale were lovely! I liked the wee extras for people who forget to pack stuff like - toothbrush and toothpaste. Also crisps and cereal bars, lovely.

Previous reviewers mentioned lack of wifi in annex - not a problem when you are aware of this. We were only stopping over for one night so can't really comment on the surrounding area.

My cousin and I enjoyed a delicious Gammon steak served with amazing chips all cooked by the young chef. Lovely cheery staff and a delicious breakfast cooked and served by Kim. Great value for money. I will definitely return on my next visit to Twynhole. I wish you all the best. Many thanks.
