We absolutely loved it at buittle castle, The scenery is breathtaking, rooms are amazing, the service was second to none, Tobias made us feel so welcome nothing was to much trouble they even catered for my wife who is vegan, they called us before we arrived to ask what my wife could eat & provided a full vegan breakfast to mirror my full Scottish breakfast they even got oat milk so she could have a cup of tea, The hot tub is in a fantastic location where you can sit back, relax & enjoy the beautiful surroundings, We would highly recommend the castle as a place to relax & recharge your batteries, We dont give it a 10 out of 10, we give it 100 out of a 100, It was the perfect start to our honeymoon & we will definitely be going back on a regular basis. Lesley & Kerry Baillie-Brown.

The sharp turn & narrow road leading down to it.as its not illuminated at night.

Very peaceful and historical countryside location (you definitely need a car), set in quite extensive grounds with gardens and a walking route by a river. The 2 rooms were originally outbuildings which surround the main courtyard - the Castle Tower is in the corner of the courtyard, and the breakfast/dining room is across the courtyard. Room decor quite quirky, playing on the historical theme. Room had small dining area, large comfy bed, and separate walk-in shower room. Tea/coffee making equipment included.

Communication with staff a little tricky. Breakfast depends on the cook arriving in time

The location, the history of the castle is amazing. The location is stunning as is the wildlife. Excellent for getting out and about to explore. Our room was comfortable and cosey and in keeping with the surroundings. The host, Tobias is very friendly, knowledgeable about the area and the castle's history. Nothing was too much trouble.

Breakfast needs some attention as discussed with the owner. Evening meals would be a bonus if at all possible.

quirky and full of mystery and history. The owners are great to talk with and produced for us something that although was not predictable but surprised us both. this a potential gem for the future with the development of their printing shed and the availability of functions etc.

wi-fi was unfortunately not working but this was not a problem.Hot tub was very good but it would be better if we could have protected our clothes.

The most comfortable room, with the most delicious breakfast, in the most beautiful surroundings, with the most laid back hosts, in the most peaceful setting. Buittle Castle really is a hidden gem. From the welcome cuppa and delicious cake (which you can choose to have in your room, or somewhere in the grounds - choose from multiple seats and benches!) - you know your stay is going to be special from the moment you arrive. We stayed in the Munches Room, which is refurbished to a very high standard. The king size bed was so comfortable, and the shower was nice and hot, in a spacious cubicle. Breakfast was freshly cooked in front of us, and all options were delicious. With only 2 guest rooms, and a choice of places to sit, it's very easy to feel like you have the place to yourself. And what a place! The work that is going into restoring the buildings and grounds is impressive - the various gardens and spaces are beautifully peaceful, with an abundance of wildlife. They also have their own resident peacock and white doves, just in case the local wildlife (which includes otters, red squirrels, and various birds of prey) doesn't impress you enough!! If you want to get away from it all, take a slower pace of life, and feel like you're in nature whilst keeping your creature comforts, I highly recommend Buittle Castle. We'll definitely stay here again if we're ever in the area again.

I liked everything about Buittle Castle!

Good breakfast choices. Service was good and Tim was very attentive. Room clean and the fact that it was done out in a period style added to the experience. The tour provided by James was not only informative but presented in an interesting and humorous manner. Well worth planning a stay here, it is also close to a number of interesting spots. The hot tub was an added extra and sitting there looking out to the Urr Valley was fantastic.

Nearly everything was done well. Only criticism relates to the afternoon tea which was part of the tour package, sorry to say that it was not the best. Needs a revamp please.

Situation in beautiful, peaceful surroundings. Received a very friendly and personal welcome. Munches is a beautiful room, adjacent to fortified dwelling house, with lovely sunken garden and riverside walk. There were deck chairs laid out for our use, and a free ranging Peacock in the grounds. Beautiful place to stay. Excellent breakfast, actually quite exceptional (included pancakes made on request). A most unusual but fascinating place to stay. We shall definitely return.

1. Difficulty locating entrance coming from Castle Douglas. 2. Some parts of the larger premises currently undergoing renovation/ development although clearly care has been taken to ensure that this does not interfere with the peace and enjoyment of the guests.

The decor and feel of the room was a delight and gave a sense of the history of the place. We ate breakfast in the room and Tim was attentive and looked after every detail very well. The breakfast itself was delicious and full of high quality, local produce.

When we arrived, the room was very cold but once we contacted Tim, he explained that the heating had been turned off but they forgot to turn it back on. This was done immediately.

Wonderful peaceful location with some history. Our room was in a converted stable and beautifully decorated with plenty of thoughtful touches. The room was decorated in traditional style but felt a little more modern with the wonderful splash of green on the panelled walls and large patterned wallpaper. Lovely touches from the Roberts radio, Floris bath goods & tea sets. Tim was extremely pleasant & cooked us a superb breakfast. We will definitely stay again in future when we are in the area. Another plus was the comfortable mattress.

We liked everything.
