Douglas House

Warm welcome from Kate - 3 night stay - room at the back overlooking the garden - comfy large bed - smallish TV - adequate shower - on-street car parking - no problem getting spaces - short walk to the centre and restaurants - Nikko's and Market Inn Hotel - our faves - great breakfasts - lots of choice - local producers - eggs poached to perfection - all in all a very enjoyable stay and we would have no hesitation re-booking as it ticked all our boxes

The weather

We arrived early at Douglas House but that was not a problem, our host Kate was very welcoming and friendly and did not mind us being early. Our room was very clean and comfortable, the breakfast was very good. The location was ideal for visiting relatives in the town. The only downside was the lack of private parking. Would definitely recommend Douglas House to friends and family and would love to come and stay again.

Would have been five stars if there had been safe secure parking.

The owner host was fantastic, friendly and has a wonderful place. Each of the four rooms in the home had their own modern bathroom. Three rooms had large beds, and one had a single bed. We had a room on the first floor which was the largest of the four rooms.

The location was easy to find and parking was simple and close. The only downside was the house was located on a corner with no yard. There was no exceptional view from the room. Just street and other homes

The property was in an ideal location for me who had a gig in Dalbeattie that night. The room was clean and comfortable and had a lovely tea setup, a super comfy bed (please tell me where you got those firm pillows?) The owner was super welcoming and kind and was happy to let us check in as early as possible to give me time to prepare for my gig. The breakfast was DELICIOUS, really big portions, nice coffee and locally sourced produce. Would definitely stay again.

Douglas House was perfect. Centrally situated but away from the main traffic flow Douglas House offered everything we needed for an overnight stay The host welcomed us and took us to our room where she explained the workings of the room including the free internet password The breakfast was beautifully served and tasted even better. Ample street parking available

No cereals offered with the breakfast No choice of juices just orange.

Kate was wonderful. Lovely personality and made you feel so welcome. She had a wicked sense of humour. The breakfasts had a fabulous menu. The beds were comfy, the rooms were lovely. Close to all the restaurants and parking just round the corner. Had a fandabidozi 3 days there. Would highly recommend this place.

Beautifully decorated rooms. Very spacious. Lovely tea /coffee and goodies. Very friendly hostess. Super bathroom. Very convenient parking.

I could have eaten more scrambled egg. Portion quite small. I should have asked for more toast, and I'm sure that wouldn't have been a problem. Certainly want to stay again sometime, so this is not a major complaint!

Our hostess was a lovely lovely lady. She always had a smile on her face. And we were always laughing at breakfast. The breakfast was amazing. She makes the best scrambled egg I've ever had. Nothing was a bother for her. I would highly recommend this place. I will be back

The owner, Kate, was absolutely lovely and made my stay perfect. The breakfasts had so much choice and Kate provided me with Oatmilk for my coffee. The Scottish smoked salmon with scrambled egg was excellent. Room had everything you could need and all clean. Easy free car parking right outside.

Linda was an excellent host, she was very responsive and helped us by allowing us to get some packages delivered which she left in our room ahead of our arrival. We stayed in Room 1 which was larger than your average hotel with a large bathroom (and bath!). She cooked us a lovely breakfast and let us check out a little late so we didn’t have to wander around in the sun all dressed up ahead of the wedding we were heading on to. Highly recommended and would definitely stay again if we ever make it back to Castle Douglas. Worth noting that my brother stayed nearby and for a similar price stayed in a room that he described as “like something out of the shining, and not in a good way”
