Buittle Castle is an absolutely stunning location for a b&b. The room was in one of the bailey rooms, adjacent to the tower house, which is really beautiful, and the whole property is surrounded by wonderful grounds that include a superb (and sympathetically constructed) sunken garden and riverside walks. There's also an abundance of wooden benches and wooden tables/seats in optimum places throughout the grounds, making it a fantastic spot to relax, contemplate or meditate. The room was sizeable and very comfortable, and decorated with artifacts and art related to the history of the castle. The property has been in the same family since its first construction in 1170 (excepting some short periods). The Baron is also an Orthodox bishop and his cousin, Tobias, (who was super friendly and prepared the breakfast) is an ordained priest in the Orthodox faith. Breakfast was delicious and was served in our room (there is a table and chairs to accommodate) as the 'grand hall' was being renovated. Brother Ambrose and Gordon were also extremely friendly and informative. We'll definitely be back as it was one of the most relaxing away weekends we've had in the area (we live 45 minutes away).

I would re-arrange the bed direction so that it can be accessed from both sides. A minor issue. The door to the room was a little difficult to open due to its draft excluder.

Easy relaxed check in. You know it’s just unlike a hotel or many places I’ve stayed. It is personable, excellent comms via telephone pre arrival. Then met Tobias and he’s such a charming gent. We loved the hot tub after a long drive. The peacock, yes he makes noise but the peacock thinks he’s the Baron :). Take time to walk around, any time is beautiful, morning was surreal, I must admit I had Braveheart and Horner on my EarPods but it was just another level if you know the rich history of the place. The breakfast was excellent. The Gardner and the little beautiful dog was so friendly. You just cannot fault it. We visited the chapel in the morning, bagged loads of photos and definitely will be back.

Nothing.

My daughter and I loved our stay at Buittle Castle from start to finish. We were greeted by Tobias who looked after us during our stay and ensured we had everything we needed. He was cheery, friendly and extremely polite at all times. Our room was lovely and cosy with a very comfortable bed. We enjoyed a wonderful meal with wine in the beautiful Medieval Hall. and a great breakfast in our room the following morning. Compliments to the chef! Afterwards we made use of the hot tub which was good fun.

Location and hosts, history of the property and surrounding area Wines and offer of vegan option food Excellent bed and quality linen Nice range of teas although not much choice of coffee Hot tub overlooking grounds

Minor issues with room, door continuously creaking during the night, shower switch on a delay, temperature of some of the food and a lack of choices of menu , probably due to late season Disappointed a viewing of the gift shop was not offered

If you like wildlife, this is a very nice place. If you like history, this is a fascinating place. If you like both, then you should stop reading here and book the room at once. We stayed at Buittle Castle for only two days but we had a great time and would love to come again. Very obliging owners and staff. My wife has a preference for vegan products and they were able to accommodate our breakfast choices at short notice. The area has a very unique charm with its castle, ruins and Galloway "Belties" frolicking on the fields nearby.

Perhaps we could have communicated vegan requirements earlier, but in the end this wasn't a problem. I cannot really think of things that could have been better otherwise but it's worth to be aware of three things: 1) mosquitos and midges 2) birds may wake you up in the morning if you're a light sleeper and 3) it's a bit further away from shops and amenities . All of these are also part of the charm, but I think it's worth to keep it in mind.

We travel a lot and even good hotels merge into each other after a while, but a stay at Buittle Castle is such a head and shoulders above the normal experience that it will really stick in our minds. Staying in beautiful historic accommodation set in a stunning natural environment, with friendly first class service, makes this less of stay than an utterly marvellous experience. Last night, lying in cosy bed in an ancient room watching a log fire flickering while a storm raged around us was truly magical. Breakfast served in the room with china plates and silver cutlery was very special and the afternoon tea/castle tour is a very under-priced, informative and delicious treat. Tim, the manager, is a gem who excels at what he does, and the owners were equally lovely and welcoming. There are few places like this that give you a real taste of the past, and I cannot recommend a stay here highly enough!

We were absolutely delighted with our stay in the Munches Room at Buittle Castle. The Castle Manager, Tim, was exceptionally welcoming upon our arrival and was exceedingly attentative throughout our stay. We were given full use of the hot tub... spending Christmas Eve in the lantern-lit hot tub under the night sky was wonderful. The room was very well equipped... very comfortable bed, DAB/blue tooth radio, lovely shower room. To top off our stay, we were treated to fabulous breakfast... endless coffee and toast, fruit, and full Scottish breakfast. We loved every second of our stay... superb value for money, exceptional treatment, lovely setting. Thank you very much; we cannot wait to come back in the future.

The location is idilic and peaceful, a place to unwind after being on the road traveling. Tobias and others care about you which makes you feel special.

The bed would be better turned in the lady Maxwell room as we are at a senior age where going to the toilet during the night is difficult if trying to clamber over your partner.

The venue is amazing complete with Tower House and ruin of a Norman Castle. The gardens are well laid out complete with a very friendly peacock. The Lady Maxwell room was very comfortable and we enjoyed the fire in the evening. There is a lovely hot tub which over looks the valley and garden. The bed was very comfortable and breakfast was served in our room and was very tasty a good start ot the day. Everyone we met was very friendly and helpful. I hope we can go back soon.

What an eventful trip! Storm Arwen hit on our stay and facilities lost all power. That said it was the perfect night to be in a charesmatic room, with a log burning stove and playing cards by candlelight. It was a memeorable night. Quick word for Tim our initial host and Tobias, really nice guys with a passion for the project. Take some time to look around and absorb the history of the place.

Now this is not a critiscism because I loved the fact there was no TV. Great WIfi so if you REALLY need to fill your time then take a device.
