Location was superb for my fishing. lovely beer garden. Food all great quality. staff very friendly.

The shower in our room was very small (600cm x 600cm) - we were only able to this style of room. There was also a gassy smell when we returned to our room - not sure if it was the drains or if there was a septic tank nearby. It did take 30 mins for our food & drink order to be taken on the 2nd night - a communication breakdown between the staff which was quickly resolved when identified. Drinks were removed from the bill and room charge reduced in the morning.

Consider me a grumpy over critical old git! If you do then you get a better flavour of what this hotel is all about. Staff. Faultless. well trained attentive and a credit to themselves and company. Rooms. Spotless with tasteful décor, incredibly well designed. Bed. Super comfy extra large with loads of room either side. Linen. Top quality cotton sheets and quilt cover. Top job by cleaning ladies changing this each time! Big and heavy. Cleanliness, hotel is pristine throughout. Food. Excellent menu with service to match. Prices bang on the money! Hotel layout. Exceptional. Car parking is best I have seen with allocated parking per room and signage showing this. Never seen anything so well thought out. Cracking little patio (ground level rooms) through French doors with car just outside. Great if you want to keep a security eye on it. Location. Hard to beat. Had times in the past, like most where if you could give no stars instead of the customary one you would. This breaks my heart as I would love to exceed the maximum ten! Travelled extensively over the years and British hotels always seem lacking.in comparison to rest of world. Not this one. Would place in my top 3 ever UK stays. Hell, they even had dog biscuits on the bar and I haven't even got a dog! Lots of local produce including drinks. That's how its done.

Faultless. Compared to so many this was outstanding. Highly recommend a night or two here. Will not disappoint the average traveller with higher than average expectations.

Has a very warm welcoming feel to it , beds were super comfortable , nicely decorated, rooms smelt fresh nd clean. The staff were very friendly. Room came with Breakfast to my surprise which was very tasty nd had a variety to please everyone. Will definitely recommend nd come back if in the area again .

Nothing to fault really . the small light flashing from the smoke alarm at night on top of the bed took a few moments to get used to .

proximity to River Test. very pleasant and welcoming atmosphere, delightful staff, comfortable room and good food.

Inadequate lighting in bedroom-common fault in hotels! Please be aware that guests often read at night and older guests need 30% more light. well equipped bathroom but dark grey/black tiles and overhead lights behind ensured that half the face was in deep shadow when using the magnifying mirror - not helpful! otherwise really good.

Fantastic full English Breakfast, continental also excellent. Very helpful lady serving breakfast, the partner of Vince the head Chef. Extra coffee served when requested. Wonderful evening meal, compliments to Vince. The Sunday roast is probably the best we have had in a long time.

I would have to think for a very long time before realising there was nothing to complain about !

The beds were comfy, I had a great night sleep. The food was Delicious ‘with a capital D’. The staff were attentive, friendly and delightful.

If I was being really picky: a couple of the room name signs in the car park were missing. One of which was the room I was looking for. There was a light bulb out in my friends room which didn’t just flicker off (difficult to monitor if guests turn some lights off and leave others on).

The breakfast was excellent as was the evening meal. Staff very friendly. Room very comfortable

On arrival the original room was cold and heating wouldn't work nd neither did the kettle. They tried to get the heatiing working and replaced the kettle. After a little while we had to contact reeption again as the heating still didn't work. However, we were offered an alternative room which warm and comfortable.

The food and drink were excellent and the staff extremely helpful and friendly, despite being situated on a bend of a busy road it was surprisingly quiet at night time. Also popular with locals for evening meals which improves the general atmosphere

If I had to comment it would be that there were no tea bags in the room only coffee facilities, otherwise no complaint

I had a wonderful stay. The staff were extremely friendly and went out of their way to be helpful. The room was lovely, bed super comfortable and super fluffy towels. I ate in the pub and the food was fantastic. I would definitely stay here again.

Nothing - it was all great

Very good location for walking along the River Test. Interesting decor and very quiet rooms. We enjoyed the food and wide range of table locations within the dining area. The large Thelwell painting above the bar sets the scene very well.

Exit from car park onto main road can be tricky. Take care!
