We stayed at the Dog and Crook to attend a family birthday in Romsey. Due to timing I had previously emailed to see if we could drop the car off ahead of check in and this was agreed. We arrived around midday and not only were we able to leave the car but check in ahead of schedule for no additional charge. In order to get to the birthday we needed to get a taxi and when the local taxi firm couldn't help one of the team from the Dog and Crook very kindly dropped us into Romsey for the lunch, going above and beyond! The staff were all friendly and helpful and will definitely keep the Dog and Crook in mind for any future visits.

We were really luck that our experience was good, some may have found that the kitchen being closed was a problem but it didn't affect our stay in any way. The team do seem a little stretched sometimes but that seems to be the world we live in but to reiterate it didn't impact our stay at all but others may have a different view.

This was the perfect location for us as we were attending a wedding in Romsey and needed somewhere to stay that evening. The pub are looking for a chef at the moment so there was no food available sadly during the day but they are still managing to provide a breakfast which I have to say was excellent. All the staff were really friendly and made us feel very welcome. Would definitely recommend it if you're looking for somewhere to lay your head for the night.

This pub was definitely a hidden gem that's for sure. Tucked away in a little village away from all the hustle & bustle, in a quiet & peaceful countryside location. When we arrived we were greeted by friendly & cheerful staff who chatted away as if we were locals they already knew. Our room was clean, modern & comfortable with beautiful countryside views, and the quality of the fresh home-cooked food was not only outstanding but offered at a great price. This was only a one night stay but if we are ever in the area again we will most definitely be returning.

Only that we didn't stay longer

Location beautiful. Room large and spacious. All incredibly clean. Modern and refreshing. Quiet. Close to pub facilities. Great value for money.

The room needs a little more love. Small touches that make it more thoughtful and comfortable Mirror could be on wall instead of trying to squash in corner to see anything. Kettle can’t fit under tap to fill with water. A few cosy fittings and furnishings would help to make it more cosy like a picture or two. Cushions and a throw. Definitely needs a chair to sit and relax in room. Shower coming off wall.

It was a very good set up where the rooms were in a separate building from the pub and they were very quiet. It's in a beautiful spot too it's just a shame it was February when I stayed. The food was very good value at the pub and of very good quality and very tasty.

The only small issue I would say is that breakfast was extra which is quite a lot on top of £100 a night.

Quiet and relaxing after a busy day. Off the beaten track, but seemed popular with the locals and it was very cosy and welcoming in the pub itself. Food was great and the lady serving was very nice and helpful. Would stay again if in the area.

Room was very cold when I arrived, and it was freezing outside. Possibly the heating could have been put on in advance?

Comfortable and clean room. Good food in the evening. Friendly staff and nice busy atmosphere in the pub. Easy to get to Southampton cruise terminal from here.

It would have been nice if the heating in the rooms had been switched on mid-afternoon as both rooms we booked were very cold on arrival!

The flexibility shown to our party was excellent. The fact that numbers were lower than expected, for various reasons, was not a problem in any way. Ordering was easy

On Saturday night the noise was quite loud, but our private room mitigated that to some extent.
