The White Horse Hotel, Romsey, Hampshire

The hotel is in the middle of a quintessentially english market town, the rooms are varied in size and scattered randomly about the place, upstairs and down corridors. I'd guess the building is past 200 years old, but feels fresh and clean. Breakfast is excellent. The staff very pleasent and helpful. The central location means you can get out and explore the town on foot. The price I paid for the room was very reasonable.

There's no parking at the property, not thier fault the place is old. The nearest carpark is behind the property a couple of hundred metres away, and not expensive. Apart from that it great.

A beautiful hotel full of character conveniently situated in the centre of the historic town of Romsey. The rooms were equipped to a high standard and the beds were comfortable. The lounge has many period features and was very cosy. The hotel had a decent bar and the breakfast was delicious. All of the staff are friendly and competent. The public car parks are within easy walking distance from the hotel. A special mention for Sonia and Poppy who were very welcoming and provided a high level of customer service. We go there regularly for short breaks and would thoroughly recommend the hotel.

There was nothing we didn't like.

We had 5 star service from the moment we arrived. The staff are all superb. We were welcomed by Sonia who was interested in us without being nosey and when we returned later that night the night staff were equally welcoming. The Manager over breakfast the next day (sorry I didn't catch her name!) was friendly and welcoming. Our room was perfect with every little amenity thought of. I was worried it would be noisy being near a fire door but we slept so well! I have never been to Romsey before but will definitely be coming back.

Location is very fine, in the center of Romsey. Quiet during the night. In Romsey, several walks are possible. With car, also close to New Forest, Southampton, Isle of Wight. We stayed for 6 nights, and could have stayed longer :-) We would do it again.

Unfortunately, the larger room we booked was not available due to problem with pipes, resulting in a flood. Maybe any next time. The hotel is in a very old building, so wooden floor and not as soundproof as modern hotel. But very acceptable.

Excellent breakfast, great central location, friendly staff, nice decor

I was in room 208. My room was boiling, especially at night, and while I was grateful for the 2 fans, they weren’t particularly effective sadly. My main bugbear was the ill-fitting blind on the smaller window next to the bathroom. It wasn’t effective at keeping the light out so I was wide awake at 5am with a very bright room. If I’d have known I would have brought an eye mask. Would they consider including one in the room?

The small touches, such as the music playing as you enter the room, the lavender mist to help sleep, the dog bowl, ball, treats and poo bags already for the stay. The duck in the bathroom and the toiletries all vegan. The staff made a great deal of fuss over my dog which he loved.

The service in the bar was extremely slow, to the point of being ignored for nearly 25 minutes. Parking is behind the hotel in a mid stay car park, which can be a little difficult to find for the first time, you have to pay up to 4pm after which time it is free, it is also free on Sunday’s.

All fine except lunch details

Asked for a lunch table at 1.30 pm told not possible i was on my own there were tables empty inside and outside so I said well anytime will do told again not possible.... such a shame as the rest of the stay was great and thank the breakfast staff for 1st class service .... STEPHEN PINK

Nice location and beautiful old building. Public rooms were nicely decorated. Staff were friendly.

Room we were allocated for two people was way too small. Double bed (advertised as large double but wasn’t) was against a wall making it impossible to get into easily. We physically collapsed an occasional table to enable us to move around the room. Just not big enough for two people. Hotel were sympathetic in understanding our comments but unable to move us to another room.

The newly refurbished hotel was excellent and still full of character, inside and outside spaces looked great especially the lounge. We seemed to have been upgraded to a very large and luxurious room in order to get a bath. The food was delicious, and there was a good selection on the menu. We liked the look of Romsey and hope to be back soon with more time to look around.

Only two very minor things, proper written instructions on how to find the car parks would be helpful, and in common with a lot of hotels we have stayed in recently, the air conditioning was on unnecessarily in the restaurant, we had to don an extra layer.

Everything about the room and service was exceptional. We requested rooms close to each other which was satisfied and although I had 2 seperate bookings for different dates, they enabled us to stay in the same rooms to avoid moving. Food was of a very good standard, both breakfast and dinner when we ate @ the Restaurant with family. All round very good, would strongly recommend this hotel to other families !
