Manor Of Groves Hotel

The girl on reception (I think her name was Sam) was fantastic. She went out of her way to look after us, sorting transport and looking on Google maps for information for us. She was absolutely lovely and an asset to this hotel. The beds and room were comfy and clean. Breakfast choices were great and the food was nice. The outside area was stunning!

We were hoping for a peaceful break, but at 8:30am, the gym had music on full volume, and we could hear it in our room. It woke us up and wasn't possible to escape it, as it was so loud. The spa area showers weren't very clean. There were little flies in the shower area. The old steam room was broken but no out of order signs and no staff around, so if you're new to the hotel, you wouldn't know. A member told us this once we had found our way to the new one.

Asked for a double bed in our room but it was two singles pushed together!! It was very uncomfortable and we was told there was nothing they could do about it so that was abit disappointing. Also when checking in we had to pay a £50 deposit which we wasn’t told About when booking. The money came out straight away as pending but when putting it back at check out I was told it could take 2 to 3 days to go back in! Which again is abit disappointing and abit of a Mickey take tbh. We’ve been here before and not had problems like this.

The wellbeing centre

The food really needs to be considered there was no chicken on the menu only Fish or Steak. I do not eat red meat and there was nothing else on the menu that I could choose from to which the server asked if I wanted the Bar Menu. I then ordered Gammon which was very salty and the eggs had too much oil over it which upset my stomach. They really need to sort out their portion size for the price they are charging. The following night we had to go out to eat as we were not going to eat at the restaurant again. There is a lovely Idian Restaurant at the opt of the road from them small friendly restaurant and the food plus service was brilliant. I would strongly recommend going there to eat. Overall it is a lovely hotel to stay at, I have been there 5 times they just need a new chef.

Check in was fine. The room was large, the bed comfortable. The staff in the brasserie were friendly and efficient, the food was excellent.

The hotel is obviously undergoing renovation - but be aware that over the next year there is still some work that needs doing. Also be aware there is no lift in the original part of the hotel. Perhaps the management could have an eye to staff training - the bar staff, though friendly and willing, were unfamiliar with the range of drinks stocked. Housekeeping might do a slightly more rigorous check on cleaning procedures - even the smallest niggle can leave an overall unfavourable impression.

We found the location to be absolutely stunning, the views were exceptional and the grounds were beautiful. The breakfast however we thought it was very limited there wasn’t much hot food and the sausages were dry. Also we want to give a shout-out to the reception staff and the manager that was on duty.

We didn’t like the breakfast much as it was very limited on hot food and we think there should more selection of food. Another thing that we found disturbing was the noise from the room next door after midnight as myself and my partner were trying to sleep.

We stayed in the luxury room with a four poster bed. The room was beautiful and the bathroom was massive and totally gorgeous. Lovely surroundings and room service was great.

The bed was the hardest mattress I've ever laid on and was painfully uncomfortable. I'm a cancer patient so it wasn't pleasant. The duvet was paper thin and not cosy. I desperately wanted a bath to relieve my pain but there wasn't enough hot water as it ran lukewarm in seconds. We didn't get a shower or bath for 3 days. Very cold in the morning as no radiators worked and we only had a plug in heater. Such a shame as the hotel and staff were lovely.

Breakfast was not brilliant. Food served on cold plates so as you can imagine by the time the two staff delivered was just warm. We ordered toast that never arrived. The service was poor and tables was not cleared efficiently so you was eating amongst other peoples dirty dishes etc., not brilliant idea if it’s to be Covid clean area but I put this down to understaffing. Management needs to address this area and give dining staff extra training along with asking them to be friendly to the customers. If they don’t like their job please move on nobody wants a miserable attitude first thing in the morning. Apart from breakfast we had a good stay.

Huge car park, very quiet location. Check in was seamless and efficient. Room was large and bathroom huge! Clean and comfy. I used the complimentary gym which was possibly the best hotel gym i've used, its huge and got everything you could need and more. The pool was huge too. The bed and pillows were spot on! In terms of value for money you cant go wrong!

While the rooms were clean and comfy, there are signs that decor is in need of refresh, bathroom grout needs touch up, door handles are coming loose but this is being really picky. Food and drinks a little expensive but I'm a northerner down south so to be expected I guess.

Really lovely building and location and rooms were very nice and a good size. The staff were very helpful and pleasant. Breakfast was very good. Evening menu was good. Beautiful surroundings.

The spa facilities were a little disappointing as the steam room was out of order and the sauna was upstairs and so this did not flow well. The pool area had some beds but was not very well attended and moped to keep tidy. The reception area would benefit from a cosy, comfy seating, area such as some comfy sofas! which could make all the difference and give you some where to settle down and relax.

The staff were exceptional, all of them. Professional, courteous, friendly & helpful. The dinner was lovely, very good quality, with table service. Lots of facilities on offer.

The double bed was actually twin beds pushed together. This was not comfortable, the carpet had stains on it, the curtain ring had come apart from the curtain difficult to close. The hot water was cold at 6.30pm, this was amended 30 minutes later . Although the restaurant wasn't particularly busy, there was a half hour wait between courses. These were minor inconveniences, we had a happy pleasant stay and would return.
