Salisbury Arms Hotel

We were really blown away by how fresh, clean and comfortable both the public parts of the hotel and the room were. Speaking to one of the managers, we learned that it has recently been refurbished and it really showed. It has a good car park just round the corner which always had space when we needed it, and was well placed in the centre of the town.

The staff on the whole were exceptional, but we think we got the “B” team one morning for the breakfast service. The waiting staff were disinterested, and needed repeatedly reminded to bring the parts of the breakfast that weren’t self-service. A couple who came down shortly after us were left waiting with menus for well over 20 minutes, and when they tried to order were told that breakfast service had finished - they rightly pointed out it hadn’t when they sat down! Fortunately a manager stepped in and they were served.

The location was perfect, right in the town centre. Car parking could be tricky as it is accessed via a narrow street with parked vehicles, plus the intercom for access was broken at the time of our visit. Our room was also spacious and comfortable, as expected for a deluxe room. Wonderful touches of luxury toiletries in the bathroom! The rest of the hotel was beautiful and welcoming with an amazing courtyard area to sit with drinks or enjoy afternoon tea.

The facilities in our room were meant to include water and milk, but there was none. We had to ask for this and were directed to the butler room which was also empty of both. It meant another trip to reception to put in a request. I believe we should also have had bathrobes, but these were also missing. Overall not the end of the world, but the little things do warrant a mention.

I really loved my stay in this hotel. I stayed in one of the Snug rooms, which was gorgeous. The bed and the bedlinen were beautiul and so comfortable. Everything in the ensuite was of the highest quality, fantastic shower and the addition of Rituals spa products on tap was an addition I really appreciated . The hotel has butlers rooms on each corridor ( if you can call them that - this is an old building, full of character, so lots of winding landings) - the butlers rooms are rooms where guests can pick up fresh refills of cold bottled water - the sort thats in a glass bottle with a stopper ( not plastic) and also little glass bottles of fresh milk. Also a range of different tea pigs and biscuits. Ive never encountered this in a hotel before - I thought it was a great idea and it somehow added to the comfort of my stay. The Salisbury hotel sits right.in the middle of the town, so its a perfect location for those visiting Hertford. Im not sure about parking as II was visiting family and left my car with them. Breakfast was good , the restaurant and bars lovely and Friday.night there was a healthy amount of buzz about the bar - lots of people, but a nice buzz, with still room to find a table. I havent booked with Booking.com for a while, so it was nice to suddenly find quite a few discounts applied when I came to pay. I have to say, I think I felt more comfortable in this hotel than I have in any other, so would definitely like to return.

Nothing came up. Maybe parking, but in fairness I didnt try anywhere.

Hotel is situated in middle of town and we did get a bit lost around the one way system - however, once we located the hotel and went in and asked for directions to the car park everything was explained about the one way roads! We had an evening meal which was very good and we were given an upgrade to the room we originally booked. A continental breakfast was included which was good, and there were options to have a fully cooked breakfast if required. All the members of staff we encountered were very pleasant and willing to help. We liked the Butler's Pantry where you could get extra tea/coffee/milk etc for the room.

Superb newly completely refurbished lovely Bedroom with air-conditioning. Excellent refurbished toilet & shower room. Ground level Bars are completely redesigned and refurbished to a very high standard, with air-conditioning. Nice Spacious Bar and Tasty Meals, and lovely restaurant dining. Lovely stylish sheltered court yard area and lighting. Simple Continental Breakfast. Quiet and comfortable bedroom with proper coffee machine.

A lot of intense redevelopment going on around Hertford, which can be only good, not many shops currently due to redevelopment. I will be back again soon.

The Salisbury Arms is a great hotel and the location is perfect. Our room was beautiful and the bathroom was absolutely stunning. The car park was also a bonus. We would not hesitate to stay again. I must point out, however, that the breakfast was disappointing. I had to ask for orange juice and butter as they had not been replaced. There was also a lack of variety of choice available ie cheese or cold meats or fresh fruit salad - items which are usually present for a continental breakfast. That said, as noted above, we would definitely stay again.

What a find - great location in the centre of Hertford, lovely comfortable room, excellent facilities, super food - bar, restaurant and breakfast.

Only one ting - Parking needs to be better explained/directed. Satnav takes you to a dead-end so we had to phone to find the best way in. Car park was small and tricky to find...and full when arriving later on (as barrier was open to all and sundry). Might be best to have a reservation system and after that just direct to the multi-story and have a pre-payment rate to ensure a stress free arrival. Oh and manage the barrier better.

The hotel is in the centre of Hertford and handy for the shops and restaurants. Despite being in the centre it was very quiet because the small road outside isn't used for through traffic. The hotel had recently been refurbished so everything was spotless. The bedrooms were beautifully decorated with plenty of nice touches in the old books, cushions, throws, mirrors and plants. We ate breakfast on 3 mornings and it was super. The vegetarian options were creative and delicious. The bar is a great place to relax and the cosy snug at the front of the hotel is a firm favourite. They also have a good menu for lunch and dinner. All the staff were very helpful and friendly.

It was all the little details which made the room/stay so good… plenty of electric sockets even next to the full length mirror so easy to style your hair - no stretching around the corner or unplugging lamps just to do a simple task, plus a hand held mirror to see the back of your head. Great choice of teas/coffee/biscuits/fresh milk and more freely available from Butler’s room. Other extras… Iron & Ironing board, hairdryer & coffee machine. They really made all the difference compared to other hotels I’ve stayed in.

Only thing was the breakfast menu/choices. All a bit trendy - my husband wanted full English but it was all served on sourdough toast, not unpleasant just not what he wanted. Also I only wanted toast - asked for Brown bread but also got sourdough, when questioned it was told that’s all they had. Wouldn’t stop me staying again as positive things far outweigh this and there’s plenty of other places to get breakfast in the locality.

I absolutely loved my room. The bedding was beautiful and so comfortable. I loved how homely the room was with big beautiful plans inside. The tea and coffee facilities were brilliant. Everything completely exceeded my expectations. I can't wait to stay there again.

The continental breakfast was a little lacking. Some pastries and cereals. If you want toast you need to pay for sour-dour toast with all the trimmings. The breakfast menu looked amazing, just a shame it was not included in the price of the room.
