Funky Monk Hotel

This hotel was beautiful and the staff and the customer service was honestly the best I have ever experienced. I stayed here with a friend as we were going to a wedding, right from start to finish the staff were incredible and really went above and beyond for us. In particular I would like to mention and say a big thank you to Aurel who went out of his way to feed 2 hungry people when all local takeaways/restaurants were shut! I have never experienced such kindness and hospitality. My room was beautiful too, with all the necessities provided and more. In summary, this hotel is honestly amazing!

Nothing, it was truly perfect.

We really enjoyed the layout of the hotel and the concept of the "Funky Features", I really liked how the hotel inside isn't straight... let me explain, the walls and ceiling are slanted which makes the hotel stand out a lot more (those that are tall, just mind your head). We really enjoyed the welcome prawn starters and drinks we went on a very hot day in June and they was doing a BBQ which just added a little extra treat considering we went for my partner's birthday. The breakfast was really nice! Loved how it wasn't a buffet and we ordered the food and the brought it to us, was really fresh and decent amount. Loved how each time I called and they didn't answer, they would call back, Lauren was really friend you and the manager of the hotel, all staff are really nice even the cleaners!

Parking! There are only 3 spaces to park and I was advised to park somewhere, which resulted in me getting a parking ticket. However, I informed the hotel and they paid for it straight away. I only parked the location down due to parking but it is located nice on a high street, loads of shops and food options near just the parking.

Wow. What an absolute gem. There’s wasn’t anything we didn’t like and in fact, we didn’t want to leave! From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel very special. We weren’t treated like numbers. We had Room 1. Absolutely stunning. Bath in the room, beautiful shower, lovely mini shampoos, shower gels and body lotions. Little shower cap as well, with a hair band. There was a coffee machine and a kettle. A fridge with everything you could need and a price list which in my opinion, wasn’t expensive. Netflix on the tv..!! Not everyone going away wants to go out. My husband and I went for a break and to totally unwind and that’s what we did. The food is outstanding as well. We had an evening meal and then breakfast. Couldn’t fault either. Gorgeous courtyard. Amazing cocktails (I’m fussy as well), I honestly cannot fault it but what made it for us was the staff. They couldn’t do enough for you.

Nothing. There is nothing I would change.

It was an absolutely exceptional experience from the staff to the decor to the room back to the restaurant everything was second to none couldn’t believe we have such a luxury and home feeling spot so close to home, overall great experience would recommend any one to stay there for sure.

If you want me to be extra picky, I love my showers with a lot of pressure so that would be the only thing to improve for me personally but the current state is more than fine and enjoyable for sure

- Really good welcome from Albi (spelling?) Really friendly and helpful guy - Room 4 was very comfortable and had recently been decorated - Location of property is good. short walk to the Underground which I used often during my 2 night stay - Good selection of coffee / water. Well stocked mini bar if needed

- Room was facing Main Street so was noisy with traffic. I understand that it’s a listed building so double glazing difficult to install - If you are staying on the weekend and want a quiet stay, the bar is busy until very late. It didn’t bother me

very clean and decorated to a high standard. very comfortable nights sleep and even has a complementary coffee machine in the room. overall very much enjoyed our stay the only slight down side I’d say is it’s not the cheapest. is about the same cost as the Marriott at Waltham Abby. But as it’s in a great location to Epping and the makeover from the thatched house it’s undergone I can I understand why. I would stay again.

only negative is the cost but it’s worth the price for the location

Luxurious, but funky hotel. From start to finish, we had a fab experience. Our ring with a roll top bath was gorgeous The manager greeted us upon arrival with a welcome drink. He then moved cars around to make sure that we had Parking and nothing was too much trouble for him during our stay. The terrace with its fairy lights and comfy sofas was lovely as is the restaurant. We had a lovely dinner and enjoyed the food..

The room we stayed in was very funky, I loved the decorations and facilities in the room were lovely such as the mini bar and complimentary toiletries. Breakfast was excellent too! Quality food and drink which was a brilliant start to the day!

It was a shame that we had to walk through the restaurant/people eating with our suitcases to reach our room rather than a separate entrance - this was just a bit awkward.

Superbly appointed very stylish boutique hotel in the centre of Epping. Attentive and very friendly staff. Trendy clientele and lovely food! Excellently appointed bedrooms. We had a luncheon party for 9 people and the food was beautiful, the staff were great, and we thought it excellent value. Will definitely return.

The bedroom was lovely but a little on the small side and we will be choosing a larger room next time.

When I called to check a couple of facts nothing was too much trouble even when I had to call back. Very fair. My guest really enjoyed their room and the service. Thank you.

What's not to like? All very good as depicted in photographs. Our needs were listened to and met with grace and care.Highly recommend.
