Lion & Pheasant Hotel

The hotel itself is very quaint with lots of lovely spaces downstairs, the breakfast room is particularly characterful. The room was very comfortable, with lots of nice touches i.e homemade biscuits. The breakfast was excellent as were the staff at breakfast.

My room was quite noisy as it was by the road and the building has original windows, but it didn't wake me up. The room was quite small, but perfect for me as I was travelling alone - might have felt cramped with two.

Enjoyed the combination of old building and modern facilities. Food was very well prepared. Bedroom had plenty of room with a small hall and one door off to bathroom and one to the bedroom. Bedroom had comfy bed and two windows making it bright. Staff very friendly and helpful. Good location about 10 minutes walk up hill to the town centre and 2 minutes walk from the river.

Car parking is limited and through a very narrow entrance which may worry some drivers. You have to drive through into the car park behind the hotel but if there are no spaces you have to go back out and park in the NCP across the road. NCP costs but the hotel car park is free and spaces cannot be reserved. Dinner menu did not suit our taste so while the food was well prepared it was not what we would have preferred. Perhaps good to have a few classics on the menu as well as more exotic dishes.

The breakfast was very good. Our room was very spacious and surprisingly quiet given that it overlooked a busy street and was quite near the restaurant in the hotel. The bed was very comfortable and the ensuite bathroom was also large with a good shower. All staff were friendly and helpful.

The rooms are not airconditioned and unfortunately our stay coincided with some hot weather so this was a bit of a problem. Because our room was overlooking a busy road we had to shut the window at night and it then became rather hot and stuffy. We were provided with a fan but it was not very effective. Of course for most of the year this will probably not be an issue.

Breakfast was very good,plenty of choices.The room was very comfortable.The staff were really friendly & helpful.The decor is very tasteful.It seems well run.

Parking was difficult-we arrived early-12.30 on Saturday & it was full.Managed to squeeze us in against a wall-the staff were very helpful.But there can't be enough spaces for the rooms.So Saturday was very busy,Sunday & Monday were better.The road noise went all night Saturday but better Sunday & Monday nights.I asked for a room the back,got one at the side which was the same as the front for road noise. Had dinner,very expensive for what it was,wouldn't eat there again as there are so many choices in Shrewsbury(just be sure to book at the weekend).Weekends are very busy here.

Very friendly welcome and assistance with parking set the theme for the the continued helpfulness of all the staff. Good sized bedroom at back of hotel on second floor. This is a very old building so lots of character and stairs - no lift. Pretty quiet room although the view wasn't great - the extractor units for the restaurant! The facilities in the room were good and bed comfortable. Breakfast was excellent. We didn't have dinner. Menu looked good but we enjoyed the wonderful weather and ate out. Location outstanding. Very short walk into the centre. Definitely recommend.

The breakfast was amazing. Gourmet breakfast that would please a foodie, beautiful and delicious. The location was fantastic as long as you are reasonably fit. We walked everywhere from this location (all the shops, historic sites,river walk,train station, grocery store). The bar space and restaurant were also fantastic. We had drinks in the bar with friends that live locally and it was just perfect.

We had a room that overlooked the busy street. Although it was a little noisy first thing in the morning, there was a fan in the room that we used for white noise and it took care of the street noise. We ended up liking this room because we were able to look out and watch the morning hustle and bustle.

The room we were in was functional (Studio 48) Breakfast was very good with food provided as requested. Room was clean and well presented. Bed a good size and comfortable and living space ample. Bathroom - functional.

Decor in room minimal (but accept this is a preference) Iron supplied but no board - I'm sure we could have requested but time was an issue - would have been good to be on hand in the room. Coffee at breakfast very weak but when requested replacement this was provided. The price is a little high for the experience but accept that Shrewsbury normally has a price tag that goes with it. Parking - is available but access point is very tight to get into (get your wing mirrors in). Bathroom in Studio 48 - Cat swinging not an option - a little cramped with electric shower.

Not a thing I could fault about our stay. Our 3rd stay here, we choose this hotel when we come to the festival each year held at the quarry. The service from all staff is superb and the rooms are beautiful and every little detail is thought of. I would highly recommend staying here

Only fault, shower could do with an upgrade, for the standard of the rooms I would expect better pressure and a rainfall shower head.

Friendly staff, great decor, comfortable bed, good restaurant food. Homemade biscuits and excellent tea making facilities in the room. A great atmosphere throughout with everyone going the extra mile. very convenient for the centre of town. Spotlessly clean too.

The breakfasts were very good on two of the days - served in a light dining room by great waiting staff. But on our last day (a busy Sunday), the service was very slow and patchy - cold, weak coffee and food not as good. Only a small point in what was otherwise a very good stay.

My wife and I stayed for 2 nights. We had breakfast both mornings and each time it was fantastic. We also ate in the restaurant the first night and the meal was exceptional. We stayed in Studio 45 which was a lovely spacious room. All the staff were friendly and professional and the whole place had a wonderful relaxed feel about it. We will definitely come again!

The only (very minor) criticism would be that the shower was more of a trickle and it was difficult to get the temperature just right! That said, it still worked and did the job.
