Albright Hussey Manor

Good location to Shrewsbury in lovely countryside and good rural walks on its doorstep. Friendly and efficient staff on the reception, and in the bar/ restaurant on the evening we stayed.

Breakfast on the morning of departure. This probably rates as the worst breakfast experiences I have had at any hotel. We, along with a couple of other guests arrived at 9am which is effectively last orders . We found that most food items had been cleared away by a waiter who seemed more focused on closing up rather than providing breakfast for us. On a very big plus for the hotel. The manager/owner and the excellent duty receptionist provided first class service recovery on this issue , for which we are grateful.

Location ideal for purpose of visit - family wedding nearby. Quiet location. Liked historical aspect of hotel. Very friendly and helpful staff Cooked breakfast at the weekend was fine. Option of having poached or fried eggs.

Size of bathroom. It was on the small size. Was awkward getting in and out of bath for shower because of position of taps on the side of the bath not at the end. Not a great choice if you opted for a continental breakfast - no meats or cheeses. Only apples for fruit.

The original building, the location and gardens are stunning. The room was comfortable, well provided with tea, coffee etc. The bathroom was clean and the shower very effective. The staff were lovely.

The procedure for a continental breakfast was rather disconcerting as most items were on display the day before. There were very few tables and chairs in the breakfast area but you could take your choice of items back to your room. All in all the Albright Hussey is good but has so much potential to be bettet

The location was great for exploring Shropshire and also very quiet at night which was a bonus. The Manor itself is absolutely beautiful and the gardens and moat, complete with black swans make it very picturesque. The room was very spacious yet so cosy on a cold winters night. The staff were very welcoming and helpful, especially the lovely lady on Reception when we checked out who offered to show us the oldest parts of the building and some of the rooms within it. We will definitely be back soon, cant wait to stay in one of the historic rooms!!

We were greeted by a smiling receptionist and were amused by the antics of the children with the wedding party while we waited for two other guests to book in. The room was clean, comfortable and very well equipped. We were surprised that we did not hear anything of the after-wedding party in the old part of the Manor. It was particularly pleasant for me to return to Albright Hussey after working there 44 years ago. My English breakfast was a special treat and very good indeed. We had a long and friendly chat with Malcolm the Manager and I was surprised at how much we had in common. All in all we enjoyed our stay immensely. It was also lovely to see that there are still black swans on the moat.

There was absolutely nothing which we did not like.

Sometimes the act and choice of one person blows you away. The duty manager called to check I was still on track for a late arrival, then despite me finally getting there almost an hour after expected and way after he was due to leave his shift- he was at the door waiting for me. As a single female it nearly brought me to tears to be met and welcomed as it began to get dark after a long drive up from London. Just an exceptional person - nothing to do with service, everything to do with being a beautiful soul. Thankyou

I couldn't see anything from the point of arrival other than warmth and welcome - though yes, the hotel is spectacular.

Nice location and bed comfy, clean and cosy room and nice shower. Nice cooked breakfast.

I got told there was a cooked breakfast in the morning and no prices were mentioned. In the morning I was asked for my order and again no prices mentioned. Then got charged £15 for a small breakfast. I would have had continental if I had known it wasn’t included.

a very pretty looking hotel, bed was comfortable, the room was a good size, with water, tea/coffee etc, towels were soft & fluffy. The staff were very friendly & helpful.

The door code didn’t work when we got back to the hotel so we had to ring to be let in, this took about 10 minutes which wasn’t great at 1.30 am. The breakfast at an extra £15 per person wasn’t great. My scrambled eggs were over cooked, and the beans were cold, not worth the money at all.

No cooked breakfast, but selection was OK for a light start to the day. Location a real bonus, the grounds lovingly cared for by ground staff and idyllic views for a warm summer's evening. Resident black swans a nice surprise. Plenty of cosy alcoves, manor rich in centuries of history.

Automated tea/coffee dispenser for breakfast is as they all are, water never piping hot, can't beat proper pot of tea/coffee.

This is a fabulous place to stay - an historic building with amazing grounds and dog friendly. Spotless large room and bathroom with complementary water and comfy bed. I was delayed by a bad accident (M56 closed) and the General Manager called to check on my progress. Very good value for money: beats any bland chain for the same money. Super big bath and lashings of hot water

It wasn't so much about what I didn't like as to concerns about the future of this lovely place and it's soo helpful staff: just a few signs of creaking of the seams (poor quality telly/meal with a heap of rice and nan bread and a spoonful of (very tasty) curry for £17.50 and only a handful of guests) Please come and stay: this great hotel needs you!!
