Staff are welcoming and helpful and the location is excellent for train, shopping, sightseeing and restaurants.. My room was cosy, comfy bed, new carpet and good decorative order. Good shower with plenty of hot water. All round excellent value.

Minor niggles only: 2 night stay and room wasn’t refreshed. I tend to make my bed, rinse mugs in the morning so not an issue. but there was no information to stay they don’t. I personally like bins emptied, and more than one tteabag for 2 nights. Some limitation on slots for pre booked breakfast. if you need a specific time book ahead of checking in.

Love staying here and stayed for my wife’s birthday this time and as usual the staff were friendly and the accommodation and bar/restaurant were tidy and welcoming. We ate in restaurant on the Monday for wife’s birthday meal and the food was amazing and very filling. the 2 members of staff Sol & Kiara I believe were fantastic and even arranged to bring out the wife’s cake with candles and Sol even sang a little bit of happy birthday to the wife ( amazing service and I would love for them to be recognised for going above and beyond ). All in I can’t wait to visit again as it’s our special place and the Thistly Cross strawberry cider definitely tastes better when I am drinking it in Stirling.

Nothing everything was great as always

We had a very nice stay. The room was comfortable and very clean. Hotel staff friendly.   Great location! In the middle of everything. 8 minute walk to the train station. Couple things to keep in mind: Breakfast was very good.  However, the kitchen is short staffed which means longer waits. The hotel is aware of it and requests you pick a time slot to eat the day before. Regardless, we discovered picking 9am to eat means you'll get served @ 9:30. And 9:30 means 10. Plan accordingly.  Getting to the rooms from the lobby is a little tricky. No elevator and if your room is on the upper floor be aware you have to climb several sets of stairs, navigate some turns and open & close 6 sets fire doors. We found it easier to access our room from a back door from the hotel hallway which opens to an alleyway and a set of stairs to a public parking lot.

One thing that didn't sit well: That back door from the hallway to the parking does NOT lock. Unless last hotel guest who uses it slams the door shut then aggressively pulls... and continues to pull... until the lock engages. Knowing just anyone could walk into our hallway made it a BIG security concern. And entirely defeats the purpose the hotel passcodes they give guests for after-hours access. I brought the broken lock to the attention of the hotel staff when we checked out, but she blew it off. She said, "Oh, the guests need to remember pull on the handle."    Incredible.

The staff was amazing. Super helpful always friendly and kind. The food was good and the service was excellent. I loved the breakfast option and the location was central to everything we wanted to do so we were able to walk wherever we wanted to go. That saved us money on transportation.

The room was a little dingy and while it was clean it could have used a bit more love. A more comfortable chair perhaps a bit more bright lighting and some nice decor or something that made the room feel more special. I realize it's difficult when you are dealing with old property and that definitely creates some limitations.

The location is wonderful; close to the train and bus station. It is walking distance to shopping and food. The apartment had a TON of space. They held our bags until we could check into our room, so we didn't have to carry them around town. This allowed us to go do things we would not have done otherwise. The host/bartender was a young man who was absolutely fantastic (we forgot to get his name)! He was social and knowledgeable about the area for making recommendations. He definitely made a difference in our trip. He made great drinks too.

Our apartment faced to where it had zero airflow; it would be helpful to add fans to help with this. If you are booking an apartment, it is a maze and a hike to get to the apartments. The parking lot in the back was VERY loud at night. The restaurants were dumping glass and taking out trash at all hours (1am I woke up to glass being dumped). There will be people talking and walking through late at night as well. It was not a quiet nighttime during our stay.

The receptionist recommended one of the best restaurants we visited in Scotland. It was only two blocks from the hotel but we would never have found it and may not have ventured in without a recommendation. We wanted Indian food and even though there was one directly across from the hotel, she recommended a different one (the Maharajah). It was perfect. The morning staff was also very accommodating. They had our breakfast ready at the time we had requested with plenty of good/strong coffee.

The only thing that could not be helped was the lack of an elevator and also an odd series of stairs, winding hallways, and doors to our room. It's an old hotel so we expected some bit of that. The fact that there is no lift was mentioned in their description, so no surprise. We wanted to stay in the city center, close to the Stirling Castle, in the historic area. The Friar's Wynd was perfect. Getting to the parking area directly behind the hotel is a bit tricky since you cannot drive on Friar Street, even though your map may tell you that you can!

Friars Wynd Hotel is the best place to stay when visiting Stirling, so much so that I wish I was staying a few more days! All of the (young) staff have been exceptionally professional while also being very warm and inviting and helpful. The hotel restaurant and bar are quite lovely with lots of dark wood. And the food! Everything we had was as good as the repasts we had in Edinburgh. I'm not a big devotee of fish and chips, but my brother and I split the haddock and chips and mashed peas our first night in order to share a sticky toffee pudding and a lemon posset. The entree was huge, so we were relieved we'd made the call to share it. Breakfast the next morning was porridge with berries and coulis and was so tasty it exceeded my hopes and lived up to my imagination of what porridge in Scotland should taste like--thick, only lightly sweet, coarse. Dinner the second night were specials of aubergine parmigiana and mushroom risotto, and dessert was warm chocolate brownie with chocolate ice cream and hot chocolate sauce. The photos won't do justice to the chef's talent. Trust me: this place is worth staying at for the food! The bedroom was great, bed and pillows comfy, plenty of hot water in the shower, and Wifi was excellent. Last but not least is the location: 5-minute walk from Stirling train station; 10- to 15-minute walk to Stirling Castle; 15- to 20-minute walk to Old Stirling Bridge; 45- to 50-minute walk to the National Wallace Monument. Come to Stirling. Stay at Friars Wynd Hotel. P.S. Decided not to take the earliest train to Thurso for our departure in order to have breakfast on our last day. The deciding factor was another breakfast of porridge. And it was the right decision.

Room was very comfy and nicely furnished with very comfortable bed. Staff were pleasant, friendly & helpful. Cooked (full Scottish) breakfast, which was included in our room rate, was nice. Parking was available behind the hotel, and although "free" overnight it turned into Pay (after 8.30am) for the daytime hours, however the hotel staff explained the parking rules in clear detail. I just popped out the back door & gate into the car park about 8.20am in the morning, & bought 2hrs parking from the Pay & Display Machine, which lasted us until we were ready to check-out after our breakfast and a short walk.

Nothing really. Hotel was centrally located for walking around in Stirling and was perfect for our overnight stay.

Place was lovely. Great location. Staff were really nice and helpful 🙂

We had the apartment which was a little grubby in places and needed some attention for a couple of things. Window lock broken, radiator leaking brown staining all over the wall, wardrobe missing handle. Also there's a pub nearby which does live music till 1pm, they were good but we were tired and wanted to sleep 😂 And the apartment has an area with a flat roof outside one window. I opened the curtain in the middle of the night and saw 2 guys arguing and having a ciggy a foot from the window. Bit scary
