Friendly staff, secure well lit car park, responsive to msgs before arrival, quick check in and out, spacious clean comfortable room, free WiFi. Excellent breakfast at adjacent pub, very good value. Someone available 24/7 for any requests. Set in nice surroundings.. a quirky little place, easy to find too.

No lift, no clear instructions for air con, wifi or mealtimes. Nothing to state door to room automatically locks on closing (not just the chain securing it). Wearing wrist band with name for security reasons, was a "busy" weekend, surely there's other ways to keep tabs on whose coming and going? Don't expect the room in the pic unless you've paid "deluxe" price 😉

My stay was nothing short of a delightful experience. From the moment I arrived until I left, I was thoroughly impressed with every aspect of this charming establishment. Upon entering the hotel, I was greeted by a warm, friendly staff who made me feel right at home. Check-in was a breeze, and the receptionist was happy to provide information about the hotel's amenities and nearby attractions. The room I stayed in was nothing short of excellent. It was tastefully decorated, immaculately clean, and offered all the modern comforts one could ask for. The plush bed was incredibly comfortable, ensuring a restful night's sleep and the well-appointed bathroom with luxurious toiletries added a touch of indulgence to my stay. One of the standout features of the Cat & Lion is its on-site dining. The pub and restaurant offer a menu showcasing a delectable array of locally sourced ingredients. I had the pleasure of dining at the restaurant during my stay, and the meal was nothing short of exceptional. The food was expertly prepared, beautifully presented, and bursting with flavour. The cosy and inviting atmosphere of the restaurant made it the perfect place to enjoy a leisurely meal. If I had one regret about my stay at the Cat & Lion Country Pub and Hotel, I could only stay for one night. I would have loved to extend my visit and fully immerse myself in the tranquil surroundings and exceptional hospitality.

The bed was nice and comfy food in the pub was nice too but in the morning the walls were so thin i could hear peoples alarms going off as early as 5am.

the look out of our window was the brightly lit car park not the best view, we asked for a specific table once when i booked the room months ago and also sent another email the day before we arrived and also at check in as i had to check in at the pub as no one was on reception at the hotel, i pointed out the table we asked to be reserved, so 3 times i asked and when we arrived for our meal 2 hours later we were told the table had not been reserved for us.

Good location as not far from motorway. Easy parking. Dog friendly but not in upgraded rooms. Bed comfy and room a good size. Pub/restaurant a few steps away.

Food sounds very good on menu and not that expensive but not as good when it arrives, would have paid more for a better quality meal. One was supposed to come with buttered garlic spinach and green beans but arrived with boiled cabbage a carrots and a lack lustre mushroom sauce. Breakfast was good but coffee was not exciting. A former premier inn and normal rooms have not been changed. Holes in bathroom walls where items have been moved.

Good menu, good pub and had Sky Sports which is always a bonus. The car park was nice and large. The staff were friendly, and the room was a decent size. Can't comment on breakfast as I was leaving before they started. My dog was welcome throughout which was great.

Check in was a bit clunky but think that was the exception more so than the rule. The staff in the bar were quite young and seemed more intent in having a laugh and a joke between themselves than dealing with customers, which having been in the trade myself is always aggravating when I see it.

The room was quite spacious and was ideal for a family. Bed was very comfortable. Location from the M56 motorway just a couple of minutes so good access to Chester, Manchester and Liverpool by car. However some distance from a railway station so not really of use to people travelling by train. I used Helsby station (about 15 minute drive and free parking) to park to access rail network to Chester and Liverpool with direct trains also to Manchester. I didn't use the pub facilities so can't comment on the food on offer.

The room was just like a Premier Inn. Comfortable beds, pillows and Duvets. Nicely decorated and clean. Staff were very helpful and attentive. The hotel was separate from the pub so it was very quiet. The food at the pub was gorgeous and breakfast was served from 7 on weekdays

This isn't a complaint, just a note that there are currently works going on somewhere in the hotel however I am understanding of this, they started after 8 and if guests expect improvements then work must be carried out at some point.

I like the fact that the rooms are separate from the Pub. The bedroom was large and the bed comfortable. We didn't like having to go to reception for tea bags and milk instead of being in the room. The bathrooms need an upgrade. We ate dinner in the pub, which was very nice but as it was a Saturday breakfast wasn't until 9.am and we were travelling it was too late.

Breakfast earlier on a Saturday. Have tea, coffee, and milk in the bedroom with the kettle.

Comfortable bed. Great parking. The hotel is separate from the pub so quiet. Check-in was in the pub and breakfast in pub was good.

There was a 'back in 5 minutes' sign at hotel reception but another person waiting to check in said he had been waiting for ages for a person. When we went into the pub we were able to check in there very quickly. Perhaps guests need to be directed there rather than asked to wait.

Staff on desk were amazing, it was a dog friendly stay, and my little one nervously peed on their carpet right outside the reception, I felt awful, so did my darling dog, they were terrific, wasn’t bothered at all, cleaned up immediately with smiles and petting my dog and not charged any more 😁

Rooms did smell a bit doggy but what do you expect at dog stay can’t be too classy rooms or dogs wouldn’t be aloud
