Just had a three night stay. Amazing transformation of the pub, fantastic comfortable rooms. Staff were very welcoming and efficient, we also met the manager who really friendly and professional. Our new No1 place in Whitby.

Excellent location with exceptional views. The staff were very friendly and helpful, with a lovely atmosphere in the bar. The facilities were very good for our dog with tiny beach for exercise which was accessible from the accommodation . We solved the parking problem by booking an overnight space in Whitby through parking app. However, it was possible to load and unload in the narrow street outside. A thoroughly enjoyable stay here in lovely room. Many thanks to Tegan and Mark especially.

The main cooked breakfast was excellent but a lot of other food on the menu wasn’t available and staff seemed keener to clear up early, well before 10.00 am when lots of things had run out.

ok here is what i thought the team leader on mon when we checked in though she was stroppy and regimented my partner said she my may have been in the army.. that was ok but come breakfast on Tuesday we entered the pub eating area at 815 the same person was in charge our breakfast appeared 30 minutes later. The next day a Chinese lady took our orders really polite person our breakfast appeared 8 minutes later

noisy refuge collections in the street 645 in the morning cobbled streets what a racket. Cleaners didn't seem to know what what was going on they seemed a bit dim

Prime location in the historic old town. Views over the harbour, and at the base of the 199 steps to Whitby Abbey. Dog friendly beach next door for walkies.

Mainly pedestrian access due to the crowds in this part of Whitby, and on one day there was no baggage storage available (Tricky when walking the Cleveland Way) and then the next they were happy to pop the bags in the cellar for us. Slightly confusing, but staff were friendly and working hard. Don't come for an olde worlde experience as that has all been stripped and replaced by nouveau boutique-pub aesthetics. If you're in search of a proper boozer then pop next door to the Board Inn, or even better down to the Black Lion offers traditional hospitality by the gallon. Cheers!

We had room 1 it was beautiful, loved the freestanding bath and the view was amazing.Nice and warm with an extra heater, towels, tea, coffee, we didn’t need to ask for anything. Staff very friendly josh and Julie were really nice, breakfast was lovely lots of choice. Would definitely stay again.

The bed and pillows were really hard. I could cope with the bed but pillows were just rock hard and uncomfortable.Bit of noise from upstairs in the morning but it was quiet at night and it wouldn’t put me off staying again. Other than that not a single thing it was all lovely.

Excellent position of our lovely room, overlooking the River Esk and harbour. Position of Duke of York is great for character of cobbled streets, near to the 199 steps to Abbey and great views over sea. Staff where friendly and helpful, breakfast was good and we had an evening meal which was enjoyable. Would recommend.

Loved our side of the bridge in Whitby as it has such character but other side was too many chip shops and fun fair amusements. It is for us a shame that Whitby is such a long drive from our home town and would not use motorways again, we came home on the A roads, much more scenic.

Great location, room was very comfortable and clean , great breakfast.

We had an issue regarding no hot water during our second and third day ... had my elderly mum with us and unfortunately she couldn't use the shower so the bath was a necessity . After informing staff we'd had thought the issue would be resolved but unfortunately not . I'm not usually one to complain but this wasn't acceptable . I felt that it's not acceptable to have no running hot water during our stay , it's definitely not acceptable for 2 of our 3 nights stay .

I think this hotel has been recently refurbished - our room was really lovely and looked / felt new and of high quality. It was clean and the bathroom was a good size. We had a room overlooking the harbour and it was a real bonus for us - the sunset views were amazing. We had breakfast and found the options to be really good - with lots of variety for vegans / veggies too. Overall we thought this was really good value for money and the location - just at the foot of the Whitby Abbey steps - was perfect. Staff were friendly and very helpful.

We didn't know just how much of a 'party town' Whitby was until we got there (our last stop after a long hike). The town itself is lovely and the location of the hotel next to the beach was perfect but it was noisy at times. Not the pub - we didn't hear a squeak of noise beneath the rooms, but do expect drunk people to make a racket as they wander the streets at night. We had our windows open due to the heat, so maybe it wouldn't be an issue if they had been closed.

Parking is a five minute walk down the road. If you are not *very* comfortable drying on tiny, tiny UK roads, I recommend parking first and then everyone walking up to the pub. I dropped everyone off and it was tight navigating turning around (but doable). Our room was above the pub and we enjoyed it. You could hear the pub music, but it was so faint/in the background that I didn't even notice when it was turned off and slept just fine. My parents room was around back and they couldn't hear a thing. Breakfast was decent. We used this location as a stopover from Edinburgh to London and it was really good! Wish we could have stayed a bit longer in the morning to explore. Recommend the Magpie across the way for a nice fish and chips dinner.

Breakfast waitress kept forgetting to bring me some water.

The Duke of York is at the bottom of the steps which go up to Whitby Abbey, at the end of cobbled church street, it's therefore nice and quiet. The room was accessed by a separate entrance adjacent to a small beach. It was spacious, very clean and had a view across the harbour. Tastefully decorated in teal blue with lovely cream brick tiles in the bathroom. Very comfortable and didn't feel like a room in a pub. Dog friendly too.

Nothing to pick at, old town, predating cars so the car park we used was at the top of the steps, 24 hours for £9, so hubby parked up whilst I checked in with the bags and dog, not a problem.
