The staff are absolutely superb especially Scot and Glen. Glen was extremely hospitable and welcoming, and Scott was so very hard working and friendly, if I had a hotel I would want someone like him to be managing the establishment.

The decor in the room was a bit dated and the colour combination definitely dated and slightly depressing. The bathroom or in our case the wetroom was functional but that was it. I have a pet hate for toilet seats which are not soft close, and the one at Penny Hedge was not. In the bedroom the shelf beside the bed which served as bedside table was so small it was almost pointless.

Comfy bed. Plenty of tea/coffee in room. Adequate facilities in room. Room cleaned everyday to high standards. Location of room excellent (ground floor). Breakfast substantial and a good choice. Pub was excellent and had a good atmosphere in the evenings, relaxing and good choice on menu. Very clean and all staff very friendly.

Wish we had two comfy chairs, we only had one (when I mentioned it when leaving he said we could have had two if we asked. No drawer space or cupboards to unpack small underwear etc. We stayed for four nights and really needed more wardrobe space.

close to Whitby town centre to which you could walk in 20 mins. The room was a family room with a lovely view of the sea- albeit some distance away. The hotel was clean, comfortable and relaxed. The staff were all really friendly and so helpful, couldn’t fault them. We only ate breakfast so couldn’t comment on the evening meals but breakfast was reasonably priced for adults but for kids at £2.50 was fantastic.

The walk back from the town centre was a real hike uphill for anybody with mobility issues. The only other thing to mention which didn’t bother us was it was close to some industrial units and that could put off some people.

plenty of parking, check-in process was straight forward and the person who checked us in was really informative and helpful! Room was spacious and clean, and plenty of tea/coffee. Menus for evening meals and breakfast were in the room and we were given children’s menu on arrival. Evening meal was lovely and all of the staff were really attentive, couldn’t fault them! Little play area in the beer garden which the kids really enjoyed after their meal. Breakfast again was lovely and you get a lot for your money. check out was really easy also - will definitely return!

We were only there for 1 night and didn’t spend much time in the room, but if we were spending more time there it would have been nice to have a comfy chair in the room as there was a lot of empty space (although appreciate this may be to accommodate larger families) and the only chair in the room was the desk chair which wasn’t all that comfortable. But definitely not a deal breaker 😊 Also a little bit further away from town centre than we expected however that is our fault for not doing our research - wouldn’t recommend walking to and from town if you have tired young kids! Plenty of parking in town centre though so wasn’t an issue for us.

The beds were very comfortable. The breakfast was delicious, with lots of choice. When my friend asked for extra tea, coffee and milk we were given an abundance which I didn't expect. The staff were all very friendly. I came to Whitby for a family memorial foir my mum, and was looking for somewhere near to town with free parking and a twin bedded room. Penny Hedge satisfied all of these requirements and made an emotional event easier.

I felt that it was a bit expensive. We had a zip bed, made into 2 single beds and the beds kept rmoving,. It would have been nice if they were static.

We loved everything about our stay and would be happy to return. The staff were fantastic, friendly and helpful and all meals were great. First time I have seen our grandsons clear their plates. We loved the location as it was an easy walk into town so we had no worries about finding a parking spot.

The restaurant and bar has a dog friendly area which is great, however as we are more likely to travel with our dog we will be unable to stay again. Quite sad about this as we loved everything about the place.

Perfect location, clean, friendly staff. Has parking. Close to supermarket and petrol station. Ideal for families.

No where in room to put clothes away apart from very small area to hang @ 6 things up considering it is a family room. No lift in property. Noise from doors closing by other people was annoying. Instructions for air conditioning not available so it was guess work on how to operate room temperature. There was no facilities to purchase snacks however supermarket close by.

Loved how clean room was. Went into the pub for dinner and food, drink and value for money was excellent! The staff were very attentive and the atmosphere was lovely. Definitely come again!

I didn't like the key card was used for both entrance to our room and the electricity to the room also, me and my husband are smokers and when one of us went outside for a smoke we had to either take the key card with us and leave the other plus child in room with no electric or make sure we had phones on us to ask the other to let them back in, goodd job our room was number 1 and we could leave a shoe in the door so we didn't have to take the key card from slot to open doors. Other than this everything was exceptional

The size of the room was spacious and quiet. It was handy having the pub attached for breakfast and evening meal.

Considering the room was a good size there was a lack of shelving. There was no room for more small items of clothes i.e. no drawers at all for underwear etc and so we ended up keeping stuff in our suitcase. The bedside tables were not large enough to fit essentials on. The shelf above the hangers had not been dusted as I had to put some jumpers up there and they came down with a bit of dust. The room was a bit cold but there were no heating in the room.
