The bedrooms are big and spacious and we had a lovely view of the sea. The breakfast is self service with plenty of choice so you won't go away hungry. The hotel location is ideal for walking around Whitby.

Parking spaces are limited so I would advise anyone with a car to book a space with the hotel before you go.

Booking was quick and easy. The staff were very helpful and nice. the restaurant was good with some vegetarian options for my wife (though more would be appreciated). Both noisy and quiet lounge appreciated.

Structurally, the Hotel is facing a major refit. There was leaking water in some rooms. The lift is like something out of a 1970's Carry on film! Given the available space, a gym could easily be provided. Clearer marketing about the need to park on the road outside should be given. The restaurant menu is OK for us for one night but would probably need a wider selection for younger clientele. The location is fantastic and so some investment would make a lot of sense.

Best location in Whitby It was all clean and functional Staff very friendly and helpful the room was recently renovated great shower good beds plenty of room Lots of wardrobe space and hangers Nice towels etc Good tea and coffee making facilities Good bar and restaurant facilities Breakfast was good, lots of choices with easy self service Parking ok but glad we got there early

This is a listed building so there is only one very small lift Not the hotel’s fault but because there is no double glazing the noise from the seagulls all night was a real disturbance TV channels limited

A lovely old hotel bursting with character and quaint architectural features. The view from our superior double room was splendid, looking straight out to sea and with a great view of the whalebones, the Abbey and parts of the old town. Our room was comfortable and spacious with a good-quality king-sized bed. Wi-Fi worked flawlessly in the room. Breakfasts were very good and with plenty of variety. A shame some myopic reviewers here failed to spot the notice that eggs, other than scrambled, are indeed available on request. Dinner, contrary to some reviews, was nicely cooked and presented. No complaints at all here. Front-desk staff were all courteous and helpful. Car-parking arrangements were fine too, costing us £12 for a 2 night stay, which is reasonable. This is a very old, very stylish building. Do not expect slick, shiny decor in this year’s colours. Floorboards are uneven in places and will creak. Windows are, in the main, sash and single-glazed. Carpets are indeed more than a few years old. If such things bother you, book something devoid of character but built in the 21st century instead.

The lift is very small, awkward and jerky, which may be a problem for less able guests. Our over-bath shower’s water-pressure was ‘variable’ but thankfully the temperature remained constant.

Breakfast excellent. Most staff friendly and helpful. Reception staff brilliant, easy check in and out. Rooms could do with updating and would benefit from having it painted, new carpet, bath and around the shower needs replacing.

Restaurant mangers attitude and how he spoke to a member of his staff. He was not very friendly to say he was front of house and by passed us several times without comment when waiting to be seated for breakfast. He then said to a waiter, "just get them sat down". The waiter had already been to us and said the manager won't be a minute. The waiter had done his job and didn't need to be spoken to the way he was.

Breakfast was well cooked and cold buffet to our taste. Staff were friendly & efficient . The building is is need of (expensive ) outside refurb. Painting etc. But inside is clean and bright. Our bedroom on ground floor had an unexpected stunning sea & harbour view of Whitby and outstanding Outlook across the estuary to the ruined abbey. Highlight of our stay. New curtains and better lighting would be an improvement in Room2. We had a superb bar snack of smoked salmon/prawn platter. Excellent!

Get rid of the unhygienic wood platters☹️. They add nothing to a highly acceptable meal! Bedroom door was heavy to open with just the tiny handle on a Yale lock. A better handle on the door needed. Would like to be able to fully open windows especially as it was very hot during our stay.☀️
