We had dinner on two nights and wish we could have done the same on the last night we stayed there. We had breakfast two mornings. The dinner menu would rate with any top restaurant in Melbourne. The choices were simple but brilliant. The wine list was extensive but a bit pricey. Breakfast was a treat . Last day - scrambled eggs with avocado (small but grown locally). More work needed on growing those avocados. All in all outstanding. Our many thanks to the staff for all their help in working around an unexpected dental problem. I would recommend this beautiful old inn to anyone with a taste for great food, good wine, for staff who are ever looking for ways they can make your stay more comfortable, for an inn with history and a beautiful old town that will appeal to the more mature taste.
The only thing that was difficult, and we accepted the condition when we booked, was navigating the stairs. Not a good choice for people who are 80 plus.

Merrjig claims to be the oldest inn in Victoria. That is reflected in the feel of the place. It is comfortable and homely with a garden which is home to the chickens who deliver the breakfast. We loved it but some would say it needs updating. It's very relaxed and the breakfast which is included was superb, local or home made.
This is an Inn with rooms doing bed and breakfast. We loved it but if you expect a boutique hotel you will be disappointed. I believe the restaurant would be excellent unfortunately it is not open Tuesday or Wednesday which we're our nights....shame.

Quirky and full of character, this was just what we needed, after staying in a series of apartments and larger hotels. The staff are welcoming and take great pride in the inn and the service they offer. We had dinner on arrival; great food, featuring local and homegrown produce, and an impressive wine list. The breakfast in the morning was delightful too. Our night here was part of a ‘trip of a lifetime’ tour of Australia, but if we do return, one of the reasons will be to revisit the wonderful village of Port Fairy and to stay at the Merrijig Inn, again.
Because of the age of the property, some of the rooms are rather small (but comfortable). If you are travelling with large cases, it would be a good idea to make up an overnight bag, as we ended up doing.

The boutique accomodation was lovely furnished with great attention to detail. We loved their big garden where we enjoyed a quiet afternoon in the sun including nice coffee from the common area. The breakfast buffet was great with a hot meal. The staff was very friendly & helpful. We enjoyed a delicious dinner at their restaurant.
The restaurant only had a bar seating available which was rather tight for eating a three course menu. We would have appreciated if they had told us that their portions are bigger than elsewhere & one main to share is enough. Everything else was perfect :-)

Delightful room with view out to the sweetest silky hens foraging in the back garden. Lovely old world charm shining above the ‘mod cons’ of effective central heating, well appointed bathroom with a bath & separate shower. The breakfasts were amazing! Delicious fruits, cereals yoghurt, freshly baked bread and a different hot dish each day! We didn’t need much lunch! The common areas were all very welcoming, homely and good for meeting other guests.
Nothing I can think of. We’ll have to comeback on a weekend when the highly acclaimed dinners are offered in the main dining room.

The whole cottage was beautifully decorated lots of little touches that made it a home away from home . The lounge room is nice and cosy with the fire being lit every afternoon. The little kitchenette was stocked with home made cookies and tea and coffee. Breakfast was so delicious with lots of fresh local produce and the hot breakfast was tasty and used the eggs from their chickens. The attached restaurant offer a wonderful seasonal menu and is a must to visit and is housed in the same building as the accommodation. The staff are wonderful and very friendly and want to make sure you enjoy your stay .
I loved everything !

Cramped quarters, low ceiling, tiny bathroom, very "dated" furniture, few in-room facilities and some noise from the bar below are not normally things I'd mention in the list of things I enjoyed. However, this was exactly the authentic attic room experience in a very old inn I'd signed up for. Adding to the experience was the sumptuous breakfast which included being waited on for coffee and hot breakfast orders - no impersonal buffet breakfast here. The whole inn felt like stepping back in time; it was a rabbit warren of interesting and character-filled rooms. Owners and staff were the same! I had the sense to book ahead for an evening meal in the Kitchen which was another experience not to be missed. Food and drink were divine. The shower was surprisingly good, too.
Getting a heavy suitcase (I'm travelling for several weeks) up and down the steep stairs to the attic was a bit hairy but I managed to do it.

Fantastic B & B. Perfect location to walk into town and stroll to Griffiths Island. Lots of free parking outside. Very quirky place with a lot of personality. Our room was lovely with great little sofa, comfy cushions and throws. Really gorgeous toiletries! Lots of towels and generously sized, most places only gave a bath towel and tiny hand towel during our trip. Comfy communal areas. Loved the garden with places to sit and chickens running around.

Beautiful Bed and Breakfast with plenty of character and charm. The breakfast was all home grown and cooked food which you see growing in the garden, The staff were very helpful. We stayed on an evening when a dinner is not available, but there are some great recommendations a short stroll away. Port Fairy is a well looked after town and ideal for a relaxing stroll. Rooms were full of old time charm and very comfortable. Parking is extremely convenient. Love the common/lounge area and garden where relaxing is ideal with a good book and conversation
Very few negatives. If staying upstairs, it is a tight staircase to carry a heavy bag. The evening meals are supposed to be great so plan well ahead if you want to book.

Absolutely everything ! Great location in lovely Port Fairy. Gorgeous old quirky house with lots of hidden gems. Wonderful staff. Our room was so cosy and what a great comfy bed and a lovely sitting room to relax in. The gardens are fabulous and so nice to sit out there in the evening listening to the birds and there are so many nice little spots to sit at in the house, it’s really a hidden gem. We had a fabulous dinner, the food was excellent, lots of home grown veg and local ingredients and very reasonably priced. Breakfast was just delicious, I truly think it was the best poached avocado toast I have ever had. Really wished we could have stayed more than one night, Port Fairy is really a lovely place to stay. I would highly recommend a stay here and would love to come back.
Was all fantastic.
