It had everything we needed, off street parking at back close to room, comfortable beds, warm room, private bathroom, space and was quiet. The kitchen was fully stocked with everything you’d need, games room with a wide array of board games and a pool table. Large TV unlike many places which still have very small screen TVs, the separate rooms out back all had there own outside table and chairs surrounding a very pretty country garden courtyard. And Jess was great, full of local knowledge of where to eat, things to do and see, and made checking in very easy. The building itself is also full of interesting memorabilia and history. Port Fairy is also a lovely seaside town close to many places of interest.

Nothing.

This is what YHA hostel experiences used to be like before they were largely made vulgar by free market ideology! The calming ambience within this historic premises is highly conducive to people being able to interact and engage with one another (as opposed to remaining atomized), while the long building layout and the kitchen and dining areas help to foster such conditions. Jess and the team are superb hosts, while the care and the effort they make (for example ear plugs and hot water bottles in the rooms in winter) - as with the other extras (e.g. tea and coffee, towels etc.) are immensely appreciated! It's always a privilege to stay here, with one's seasonal (and all too short) experience on this occasion being complimented by the wild Port Fairy landscape (indeed no winter of discontent here!), while it's nice to know that families in particular can avail themselves of a great budget holiday, and one which will no doubt prove to be highly memorable for them - with this potentially being inclusive of seeing seals and watching whales either on or near to nearby (and walk along) Griffiths Island!

What's not to like? - I'd defy anyone to find any fault with these premises!...If you stay here, you'll never want to 'Fairy-land'!

Jess was very helpful communicating with us prior to our stay. She was really prompt answering my questions and she made us felt welcomed. I originally had doubt of the place as it's a hostel and the price was much cheaper than those air BnB's, in fact, this place could be even better than some Air BnB's. Our room has an ensuite which suits us better. I think it's more fun staying in the YHA as you meet different people and make some friends. During my stay, I saw Jess hand-picked flowers from the gardens and put them into vases, they looked so pretty. The room was nice and clean, you will need to put up the sheets yourself which I didn't mind doing, as you can see the sheets are clean and you feel more comfortable. The room we stayed was cool compared to the temperature outside, which is great, no aircon is needed! During the night, the room temperature was just right. There were a few comments about the noise, I would like to say it's the same as you stay in any hotels, we can't avoid baby crying and loud talking... everywhere are the same. We had a good night sleep.

The only thing I could think of is the car park is a bit small, in first-come-first-served bases. We parked in front of the hostel as there were not enough space to park. The town is quite safe as we left a few luggage in the car. No break-ins or damages to our car!

We arrive past reception time, but the Jess' communication and contact with us was on point, we had no issue getting to and around the place. We were provided with places to visit around Port Fairy and some recommendation as well, guest experience was fantastic... We stayed a night since we were only driving through back to Adelaide after our trip in Melbourne and drive from the Great Ocean Road. The place is definitely great for young travellers, it spacious, clean and have enough social rooms to meet up new friends...

None with the property but We happen to visit Port Fairy when the weather was crazy, 100+ kph winds and shower, we did not get to see anything :(

Such a sweet hostel in a lovely historic building, with a really peaceful garden area at the back (where we enjoyed having our meals and a drink in the evening!) Good facilities like the shared kitchen area, nice touches like the rain water tap! Staff were so friendly and helpful, it was great to get reccomendations for things to see around port fairy, we particularly enjoyed exploring Griffiths Island!

We didn't realise when we booked that the bathrooms were outside, we had to go down a flight of stairs and walk across the garden from our room to go to the bathroom which was a challenge when the weather was so cold! I know this is the case for lots of hostels but as we had paid more having booked a private room we hadn't expected to be so far from a bathroom. Beds were quite squishy and not super comfy, and wifi didn't really work for us in bedroom areas either (this was ok for us as we were happy to have a quiet stay without being online too much!)

Such a great find. There are lots of areas in the property to relax. A lounge room with tv and comfy couches, Billards room, bbq area and outside tables to sit in the sun The shared bedroom was clean, wiith bunk style sleeping arrangement. The kitchen was spacious and well setup. Bathroom and toilets were clean. Jess who I met on arrival was great and helpful about local stuff. Her dog was the welcoming doorman, he is gorgeous!! Highly recommend. Value for money. Perfectly situated in Port airy town.

We stayed in king room with bathroom and beds (not sure about bunks) were soft and comfortable. Sheets and towels were supplied but had to make own bed and strip at end of stay. Hot water was slow to come but once it did shower was great although fan didn’t clear the steam. Great position, very central to everything. Would stay here again

Toilet paper!!! You end up using more when so this so defeats the purpose of having thin paper to start with

Property had a lot of character. The host was very friendly upon arrival explaining in great detail all the facilities available both at the hostel and in the surrounding areas. The room was very clean and hot water bottles were provided which was a very nice touch. Overall a lovely welcoming spot.

We booked a room with a shared bathroom but we’re not aware we would have to go outside to another building to use. This could be an error on my behalf.

It was SO cute! the style of the hostel was so different to any other place we’ve stayed. It had a homely, vintage, cosy vibe! We had such a comfortable sleep here, it’s a shame we only had one night. I loved our cute bedroom and special touches - hot water bottle, extra blanket, towels without asking or a deposit etc. The kitchen was clean and tidy with good facilities! Fairy lights in the evening to make it look magical. Would recommend this place to anybody visiting the area or stopping off during their great ocean road trip. Jess was helpful and gave us some advice on where to go and what to see!

So impressed with check in - received a lovely text and letter with instructions and recommendations. Such a personal touch! A lovely old building with great facilities, felt like a home. Port Fairy very charming - would recommend sunset walk to lighthouse. Stayed in the coach house - spacious with 6 beds and enough room for bags, hope they don't add more beds as would be too crowded.
