The location is ideally located to see and drive to Poas Volcano. It's in a serene setting with lovely gardens, views of the volcano, dairy farms, and strawberry greenhouses. Lots of blooming flowers and birds. There are 4 trails on the property also. The dinners were delicious and breakfast varied and plentiful. The restaurant staff and reception staff are helpful and friendly. We loved sitting in the lounges reading in the evenings with the ambience of the little wood-burning fireplaces/stoves. Roads in the area are very good. Close to several coffee plantations; Doka was our favorite(great tour)and there's a Starbucks plantation(great view, not the best tour.

The road into the lodge off the main road is packed dirt and narrow. However, we never ran into any traffic in the other direction so it was ok. The water in the bathroom takes awhile to warm up but fine once it does. Pura Vida!

Nice property. Large, clean room. There is a seating area outside garden room and also inside with coffee and tea provided. Excellent breakfast - even the pancakes which are between American pancakes and crepes. Friendly and accommodating staff. Extensive group areas to sit and read or talk. Lower level area with pool table and some games available.

My in laws are in their 80s and I have an intermittent knee issue. There are no handrails on steps outside. The interior “railing” from the dining level to the check-in area cannot be gripped - you can only run your hand along the top. The paths from the garden rooms to the lodge are either up stairs (no handrails) or over very bumpy cobblestone. The design is beautiful but not helpful for people with only mild limitations. Would be nice to a have a table for a small group to play cards in one of the upper seating areas. The lower area didn’t have a large enough one either and is colder than the upper level.

Breakfast was quite delicious! At first, we got the impression of a limited breakfast option, but soon after receiving our meal, it was delicious. The granola and yoghurt were both homemade, healthy and very delicious. We also loved the homely feeling about this place. While the place was hotel standard, you felt so welcomed and right at home. We also loved the nature trails around the property. The property manager Lilly was also very friendly, welcoming and would go the extra mile to make us comfortable. This hotel has become one of our favorite and we would definitely like to return again in the future.

It is hard to find something that is unlikeable at this hotel, however, we did identify two areas for improvement; 1. The Jacamar Room we stayed in, the furniture felt a bit dated and the lighting in this room was insufficient for us. 2. We had dinner at the hotel once. We had the fish, rice and veggies dish. However, this meal was not as tasty as we expected. Even though we have identified two areas for improvement, it is definitely not a turn-off from visiting again. We really love this place!

We knew Poas Volcano Lodge would be a nice place, but it turned out to be much nicer than we expected. The entrance as you drive through the dairy farm is lovely, and the hotel's grounds are much bigger than I thought. We stayed in the main building and found the style and the architecture very nice, incredibly spacious, very well kept. There are multiple lounge areas - the photos don't do them justice. The rooms are large, the bed really comfortable, and the view over the volcano is beautiful. We had dinner on site which was ok - like a nice homely meal - and then enjoyed a few glasses of wine by the fire on one of their many couches. Overall, we were quite surprised and delighted by how lovely our stay was. If you're looking for a place that's cute, cozy, but of a high standard then this is it.

Everything was great.

Wonderful location, with views towards Poas Volcano. Tranquil and peaceful location with beautiful gardens, landscape. Friendly and helpful staff throughout. Good choice of breakfast was included in the room rate we had paid. We ate each night at the lodge and the food was delicious and such a lovely cosy restaurant. The lounge area was beautifully furnished and we loved the little log burners which warmed it. We would certainly stay here again.

We loved every aspect of the Poas Volcano Lodge, but it may not suit those who want TV in their room or wifi within their room, or who want proximity to bars, restaurants or shops. It is a wonderful place to get away from it all and enjoy the peace and calm of the area. As the lodge is quite remote we think that it is advisable to have a car to be able to explore the area more easily.

Great stop on our way from SJO to Arenal (only an hour from the airport - immediate transition into tranquility). The lodge was stunning with so many lovely sitting rooms and views. We were there with our parents and 1.5 year old son and there was a nice play area on the lower level (many stairs and delicate items for a 1.5 year old so little kids definitely require constant attention if you're up for it!). Breakfast and dinner were delicious. Only 15 minutes from La Paz so we got there early and beat the crowds.

All of the staff were so incredibly friendly and welcoming and made us feel at home and part of the community. Nothing was too much trouble - we landed late from a long-haul flight and the kitchen stayed open for us and gave us such a warm welcome. Maria Fernanda helped us organise transport and tours in advance and patiently helped with all my questions. Will drove us everywhere and added extra stops that he thought we would like. The property is lovely and has lovely trails. Food is great (particularly the salad and chicken!!). thank you!

It might be good to have a lunch option, but it really wasn’t an issue for us. Breakfast could be a bit quicker with people trying to get out early - again though, it really wasn’t an issue for us (we just had fruit and granola when we were in a hurry, which worked perfectly).

The Quetzal room is probably the most beautiful room I've ever stayed in. Very comfortable beds. Decent shower. Gorgeous surroundings. We had an evening meal here which was very tasty and the staff were very attentive.

It would be nice to have a kettle and small fridge in the room. Breakfast service is very slow - you wait a long time to get one cup of tea. I think that providing some of the meal as a buffet would speed things up.

The room had everything we needed with a comfortable bed. We did get cold! They provide a space heater, but it took a while to warm up the room. The grounds were beautiful and the sitting rooms were lovely.

We wish the staff was ready to cook breakfast at 7:00, when it began. We had to leave for a ticketed entry at 7:30 a.m. and by the time we put in an order they could only bring us quick-to-prepare foods like toast and scrambled eggs.

Very pleasant highland area stay base with short distances with private car to Poas volcano and La Paz waterfall area. The staff was very pleasant and helpful, some king of personal touch brought to mind old-style country villas in Eastern or Southern Africa - very easy to feel home. Very good birding opportunities on the hotel ground, around the hotel and on the trails. We were sad to leave the place after two nights - it would have been so nice to stay longer.

Everything so well-kept
