The location and the town hall food and the staff

We returned to the hotel after being downtown and we sat where the residents are allowed - we asked the barman for a drink and he advised that we needed to request from the night porter so we did and were told we could order a drink after 1 am - we highlighted that it was 12.50 when we requested the drink - both porters just shrugged and then said ok but we declined and said it was disappointing and one of the porters requested that we didn’t complain - overall the staff are fabulous and this would not put me off staying again as this is my favourite hotel but maybe some training for them would not go amiss - it was not the fact that we couldn’t get a drink - it was the complete vagueness and careless way we were told

At the last minute we had to cancel an existing B&B. We were happy to find the Old Ground Hotel had a room for us. You literally saved the last 3 days of our vacation. From the moment we arrived the front desk staff was ensuring our needs were met. The food in the pub off the lobby was nicely prepared and efficiently served with a smile. The breakfasts were the best we have had in Ireland and after eight trips to Ireland that is saying a lot. We have put the Old Ground Hotel and Ennis on our must stay when in Ireland list.

A suggestion… The huge tree at the front of the hotel. It is a true gem. Please make sure it is maintained and kept safe! I wonder how old that tree is?

Staff were friendly, helpful and took the time to wish my son good luck in his competition, Thank you Veronica. Stayed on a Saturday night and Poets Corner bar was very busy but staff got us a table really quickly and there was no rush for us to leave having finished dining. Food was lovely. Hotel was fully booked but remained quiet during the night with no loud and unruly guests. Overall really happy with our stay.

Bathroom clean and good shower. However decor a little dated and slight smell omitting from it. Room over all very clean and comfortable.

I recenlty stayed for 1 night in The Old Ground Hotel. The hotel is conveniently situated an approx 10 minute walk from the railway station and right on O'Connell Street. All staff - both at check-in and check-out and also in breakfast room were very friendly and helpful. Rooms were nicely finished. Breakfast was good. The hotel adjoins Poets Corner bar and restaurant. The reception staff were very accommodating in allowing my holdall to be stored for a while.

2 very minor points - 1 - it was not possible to view the TV from my bed in my room. The hotel is an old building and inevitably not all rooms will be uniform. In room 523 there was a separate seating area c/w TV on one side of the room separated by the bathroom from the bed and wardrobe. 2 - Whilst the cooked breakfast was good and included in the price, it was noticeably less substantial than other cooked breakfasts that I had on the trip - as said perfectly fine though.

Only stayed one night Staff were fantastic and prompt. The hotel is full of old charm with an open fire in foyer with lounge chairs for relaxing could see it was very popular. We had our evening meal in the bar and it was very busy and meals were good. We had breakfast and they had a great range. The room.was very large and comfy bed. In the room I had, the bathroom was set up more for people needing mobility aids.

Only minor but some cleaning had been missed in the bathroom but when I brought it their attention and asked for it to be cleaned they were very apologetic and promptly sent someone up within minutes to clean it.

Beautiful hotel. Fabulous room and king-size bed. Very friendly welcome and efficient staff. Nice cooked breakfast. Excellent central location. Off season so got a terrific rate for bed and breakfast for such a top hotel. 12pm check out very welcome

Bathroom felt very cramped because of the huge sink and wide stone/marble edge to the bath/shower combination. Even with handrails after a nice (but low powered) shower, I felt a little nervous stepping out of the bath over the wide stone ledge. My wife was too scared to use the bath/shower, fearful she'd slip and hurt herself. To be fair to the hotel, I didn't bring this to their attention and give them the chance to offer alternative room.

I really prefer to have the main part of my breakfast served at the table and I was very pleased to discover this was the case with the Old Ground Hotel. Also the room was quite spacious which I liked. Full marks also to the bar staff who were very busy on Sunday night yet had time to have a word with the customers especially the man with the beard who remembered my drink from early Sunday afternoon when I called back later that night.

There was nothing I didn't like, everything was to my liking and in some cases surpassed it.

The room was lovely, nicely decorated & right size, the bathroom was roomy, loved the shower. Breakfast was excellent, the staff was very efficient & friendly, the food delicious. We chose the pub as our dinner location, not realizing it was also open to the public. It was an issue only because we were really tired from travel, would have appreciated a little less noise & busyness. The food was great & everyone was very nice. Parking was right at the hotel, with easy access & no additional fee. We also enjoyed the location, as we went for a lovely walk the following morning & a bit of shopping.

The WiFi was weak, which was disappointing.

Very convenient location, near the centre of town and a short drive from a friend, whom we were visiting. It was very nice to receive a free upgrade to a deluxe room.

It was more expensive than we usually pay - and more posh. We stayed there because less expensive places were not available. Overall, while very comfortable, it was also more conservative and traditional than we usually choose. But that is preference rather than anything being wrong.

We especially enjoyed our meal in the old town hall. Food was lovely and the staff were so lovely. A special mention for Paulina. One of our party was a bit unwell and she was so kind and caring.

Check in wasn't great. The lady who dealt with us was unfriendly and so interested in checking in the stag party that she forgot to give me my room key, didn't say what time breakfast was served or give any indication as to where our room was. Unfortunately I didn't get her name.
